Poor impulse control.
They WORK at Diff1.  cgminer/bfgminer is handing them diff2 work.  There's a difference.

Miner software just computes hashes, and then checks to see if the hashes are lower than the arbitrary submission difficulty you have selected (or the pool has autoselected). If you could create only diff1 shares then you'd have found a flaw in SHA256.

There is no such thing as "handing them diff 2 work".
Which diff is met by a hash can only be determined after it is computated.
The only thing happening when operating at diff 2 is that all diff one shares get dropped by your mining software instead of being sent to the pool server.

USB miners always work at Diff 1, so I don't know why you're trying to change them...

I beg to differ there sir. While they start out at 1, mine auto adjust to 2.

What happens if I drop out of a long round? Does whatever I have computed so far goes to waste?

it goes to 0. that is what u signed onto in the Slush pool.
If I lose internet connection and can't get it online again until after the round, I'm doomed.

If you lose internet connection that often, you should consider switching to a PPS or perhaps a DGM pool.
I though Slush was PPS. What's a DGM anyways?

No, I don't lose connection often. As a matter of fact it's pretty rare for me to even see a hiccup but things happen.

DGM is short for Double Geometric Method.

The effects of lost connection & reconnection should compensate in the long run, as follows from my previous post.

honestly the drop out rate is really really bad.  I belive there's an algorithm in place to stop "pool hopping" that really really penalizes you for dropping in the middle and re-joining.  Basically my miners kept going down and you basically get murdered.

But then when you rejoin you tend to remake it close to what your estimates were in a decent amount of time (probably not with this ultra marathon session tho...)

The post linked describes the principle, but it is not too recent.
The time constant of the share value decay has been found to be only 200 seconds currently, instead of the original value of 300 s. So the decay is even quicker, assumedly to increase the anti-hopping efficiency.

When you leave the pool during the round duration, your score diminishes quite quickly. When you join during the round OTOH, your score builds up equally quickly. Thus you can gain this way and compensate for the loss from leaving.

We've added a lot more hasing power the last few days.  I think it went from low 50's to high 58Thash/s so you're doing less of the overall work lately than before.  Thus a lower percentage of the reward :/

Howdy.

Has anybody else's re-ward dropped over the last six or seven blocks or so? Is is just me? All my machines are online... weird... I'm still /relatively/ new at this, and don't understand everything. I guess it's just one of those things.

Holy cow 14h with ~57TH/s for one block.
I'd really be interested if someone maintains a negative "Highscore" list for cases like that :-D

USB miners always work at Diff 1, so I don't know why you're trying to change them...
What? We are talking about the workers diff... Mine just happens to be using 43 USB miners and the pool now has the workers diff set at 9

where are u seeing this diff of 9? at your My Account page? or u are staring at the output from cgminer/bfgminer etc?
if it isnt on your account page, then u need to minimize that window and stop nit picking, u r gunna die of old age
show where I was nitpicking anything?

Depends on how long the round goes after you leave.  Short answer, though, is yes.  You run the risk of getting nothing.

No, not nearly.  That 99.xx is the probability of finding a solution within the number of shares you've submitted - not how much of a block you've evaluated.  The block you are working on changes every time someone else finds one, or a new transaction gets picked up.  You actually don't work on solving the same block for much more than a few minutes at a time....

Unfortunately, it only goes to 99.99%.  You are never 100% assured of finding a block within a certain number of shares....

I know ;_;.  I was just trying to make idle chat to make myself feel better -_-;;
