Also check something else before you just paste a address without looking. Their are some Malware that recognize, when you copied a Bitcoin address and then it replace that address with it's own address and you will not notice it before it is to late. It has happened with a lot of people already, so it seems to be quite common.

I only add this advice, because it looks like you might be a possible target, if you do not double check the content you posted. ^smile^

Commas will be invalid. They simply are not recognisable by the nodes. A good wallet would not let you put those characters in, either.

This is why I use a ledger.

zebpay?

never heard of it.
and by the sounds of their shoddy error correction and lack of notifications.. i think no one should use it.. you never know what other basic checks they are missing.

might be best to try some of the better known mobile wallets,
https://www.bitcoin.com/choose-your-wallet?category=mobile
just stay away from
Money controlled by a third party
and look for
Control over your money
that way you have access to the private keys as this is the main important thing.
It is for indians only https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/zebpay-bitcoin-india-releases-new-powerful-features-for-pro-bitcoiners-1387725

You should use the official Bitcoin Wallet Android app. Just write Bitcoin on the search tab in Play Store and it will come up first. It will warn you if it is not a valid adress and wont let you send your Bitcoins. It is ok that you got your Bitcoins though, but I prefer the official wallets.
Thanks I will try it
next time before you copy just ask again, because a "," could be another important letter "mM" "kK" "lL" (EU keyboard)

It couldn't be an "l" because that's not a valid base58 character.

I got shocked when the receipient informed me that he didn't receive the coins even after 1 hour.
I logged in back and see the transaction failed and my coins were back in my wallet.
I realized my mistake, removed comma from address and sent coin again.

When you say 'logged in' I hope you mean to your computer and not some stupid bitcoin holding service like Coinbase.com or blockchain.info. How convenient of them to hang onto those pesky bitcoins until they decide you don't need them anymore.

I meant logged in to my wallet i.e zebpay

A friendly and a good wallet always warns you if you get an error for pasting an address to its sending option and its always an error because there's no character like comma in any btc address as what you have done accidentally just make sure you will double check and much better if you triple check the pasted address

Recently I was required to send money to someone. He gave me his bitcoin address which I copied without knowing that I also copied the comma with btc address like 123avghhhfhhjjjjjjj,I pasted it exactly same in senders address and logged out of my online wallet.I was sure I did everything right and recipient must have gotten his money.I got shocked when the receipient informed me that he didn't receive the coins even after 1 hour.
I logged in back and see the transaction failed and my coins were back in my wallet.

I assume if wallet address is more than prescribed characters,it becomes invalid.Right?
Have you any have similar experiences?
A wallet is never invalid, yu either have the right address or you don't. From what I know addresses can vary 1-2 letters and I don't believe there is necessarily a limit to them. It's just special characters that will never appear; it is always alpha-numeric symbols.

Yeah a good wallet should detect any error from inputs.  You are lucky your BTC still in there and din sent to nowhere.  I have tried this kind of stuff to different online wallet, and they alert me of error.  I heard of zebpay just now, and maybe they need to fix that alert stuff in their wallet.  I might be avoiding them too.

I think the 4 characters "O", "0", "I" and "l" are not valid also.

That's correct.

Every wallet should be able to check the validity of the addresses.

When I first started using bitcoin I was also worry about a single typo might send the coins else where. However, the checksum will indicate a invalid address. Besides, punctuations are not valid characters. I think the 4 characters "O", "0", "I" and "l" are not valid also.

This post explains everything in a simple and clear language. Clients should perform a validity check on the address (via the included checksum) and accept or reject addresses based on that. I assume any client, more known and less known, do this validation... (I guess that's something basic a wallet should do)

I am using Zebpay android wallet.Though it didn't warn be about wrong address but happy that I got my money 0.07 btc is a big amount for me afterall Smiley
So Zebpay doesn't have any warning, that's a little bit hassle but atleast you already know now and be extra careful next time. It's really good that bitcoin can't be sent to any invalid addresses. You should also consider trying any other wallet (android wallet), but of course choose well because there are lots of fake wallets out there. Maybe blockchain.info or Breadwallet for android? Don't know any other.

Yes, wallet addresses that are larger than the usual 34 character of Bitcoin address are wrong and they will fail to receive any funds. Infact apart from fullstops and commas, 0, O, I, and l characters are also not allowed in Bitcoin addresses. Most modern wallets should show you an error if you input a wrong wallet address with the previously mentioned characters. Also, no, I've never encountered such an issue cause I either make use of QR codes to copy addresses or copy them myself and paste.

What wallet website are you using? I think most wallet sites are giving you an error whenever you put an invalid address. In this case, there's a comma which is not a valid character for an address. Also, what you did input was more than 1 character than what should it be. Good thing though that the website gave your money back and you can re-send the money.

this only shows how careful you have to be. always double check the address you give somebody or send to. i bet there are even people you do not check at all.
since bitcoin has no safety net you better make sure the address is correct. special characters are easy to spot, but other mistakes most likely one big reason for lost coins.

I have tried same thing with blockchain web wallet after reading this and it instantly shows me invalid bitcoin address before sending anything. Which wallet you using, it look like depend upon wallet you using.
