So many people are very lazy to search through the forum for answers and topics that have already been discussed before. It's a very useful function that could help to reduce creation of repetitive topics.
Maybe because of no one gave guidelines like this how to use it properly.Even myself just uses google search with bitcointalk keyword in it because I feels forum search button is very slow and not accurate.

Realitiy is no one bother to use search button. People's just like create new thread even they need to ask how to earn merit. Never try to search or even read sticked post. First we need to change our behaviours so that we can use this forum properly. We should encourag to search before make any new questions. However well write OP. Perhaps newbie could learn from it.

I am alive but in hibernation.
We have one more earlier comprehensive guide explaining how to do the forum  search.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/tips-guide-for-forum-search-3127909

I think you can merge both of them because OP of that guide does not look active now.

This is a wonderful guide, and very easy to understand.
I have actually been educated by it,cos from your explanations it seems I've been searching wrongly most times which makes it difficult for me.
Didn't know opening the particular board makes it easier,i always use the forum homepage, and I hardly get any favorable feedback.
Good thread

Just a quick thing to bear in mind: we often perform a Google search when searching for forum related information, out of general habit, as opposed to using the forum’s search capabilities that you have enumerated. Now that the Bitcointalk phishing site is back (the ".to" version), it is easy to end-up on it after performing a Google seach. One needs to be very wary with sites of the kind, especially when one proceeds to provide their account credentials.

If one is prone to using Google directly to perform a search on the forum, it is advisable to state the site parameter to delimit the search scope:
Code:
site:https://bitcointalk.org

Hello Everyone,

Welcome to my thread. All of us know that there is a search option on the upper right side of forum. If we have any queation on our mind then we can easily search the answer by clicking on forum search engine. Unfortunately we don't know the proper use of this search option. Even I got a lot of new things about this search option today which was unknown to me. Today i reaearch sbout it after seeing the reply of our forum admin.

note that if you use the search box in the upper right while in a topic, it searches only that topic.

If you are reading a topic and use search button during that time then search engine will search on that topic only.
So if you search something others which isn't relate with topic then you will not get any result. You can get confused about your search but it doesn't mean that this question has no answer. You can get it easily again.

How could you use search button properly?

1. If you want to search anything on a specific thread then you will have to open that thread first. After that
you can use search button to get all your answer easily.

For example you want to search your stacked bitcoin address. First you have to open this thread:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/stake-your-bitcoin-address-here-996318

Then you will have to use the search button for getting your answer easily.

2. If you want to search on a specific board then you will have to open that board first. After that you can use search button to get all your answer easily. As an example you want to search something about trading. Then first you will have to open Trading discussion to get all your answer.

3. If you can't decide to where to search about your question then you can use forums homepage search button directlly for getting your answer. This search result will be a combine answer where it can be kinda difficult for you to find your one.

4. Use Advance search option for more advantage. You can make google search, seach by user, search by message age and many more here.

Special note: Search option will not show you any non public board. For example If you are below member rank then you can't search on Investigation.
