Greetings everyone!  Smiley

I hope you are all doing great.

I used to do a job related to what I actually studied for (and I really love what I chose to study) and it was pretty interesting and exciting in the beginning, I loved it! Unfortunately, as the time went by, it became quite frustrating and time consuming. The salary was not too great, but I managed to live with it. Surely enough, there were days which reminded me why I chose to do that specific job, but had I had to keep doing it, I am not sure if I would have managed. It could be me, of course, but I grew to like it less, to put it that way.

Then, by accident (believe it or not), I got a chance to move on to a new job, one I knew literally nothing about. I accepted it by the initiative of my family since the salary was much better, and I actually grew fond of it the more I learned about it. Grin And here I am today, still doing that very job for a few years now, and I love it more with each new day.  Smiley

The bottom line is, give it a try if you see some benefits in it, even though it might have some drawbacks. You never know how it will turn out for you.

Cheers!

It usually depends on your situation.  But in my case I would prefer No.2.  A good amount of income can be earned through a good career.

Hi guys.
The dilemma that I am going to raise is something that I think has passed everyone's mind.
Would you ever choose a job that pays a good salary or would you choose a job in the sector that you love with lower salary?
Personally, I would go for the first option...

People say that you should choose a profession of your liking because then you will find enjoyment in your job and it wont be a burden to you.
I would prefer to do a job of my liking no matter what it pays. With my interest and hard work, i would be able to excel in the field i love.
If i choose the other job which is not my interest but pay more, in the long run i may not be able to progress in it.

On my end, I think I will choose first a job with good salary but only for few years until I save good amount of money, then I will divert to a career which I really like best, where I know that I can practice my passion. Because you are right, if you love what you are doing, you will not feel like you are doing your job instead you will enjoy everyday going to work and will look forward about it. So less stress in life.

Why is that we feel that the career we choose pays less ? It may pay less in the beginning but when we got experience our pay will become better with the time. Also those people are lucky whom are paid well at their job and their profession is of their choice.

I had a great job computer programming full-time. Great pay & benefits, drive was a bit of a pain but I got used to it. The problem was that over time coding all day long *for someone else* started to get on my nerves, and destroy the love I had for programming which I had garnered up by it being a hobby. There's a good explanation on this by Michael Reeves on his Patreon page (and I'm sure on one of his videos I just can't find it):

Quoted below, please see source below
Quote
Somehow, after all the, tedious work and painful debugging sessions, I still love to program. A lot of software developers experience something called the Overjustification Effect. Programmers start out just coding for fun, but as soon as they get a job programming, they experience a huge drop in passion for the craft, and I'm no different. To regain my enjoyment for programming, I started taking on stupid, personal projects. It worked amazingly well, I wasn't trying to make anything useful, or appease any managers, I just made things. Eventually, I wanted to share my creations, so (in combination with crushing boredom), I started my YouTube channel.

I decided to switch careers, and do something which takes me off the computer (for the most part). I still computer program as a freelancer, but I find it a lot more enjoyable to be able to choose the jobs I wish to entertain/work on. It gives me the freedom to code things I'm genuinely interested in instead of being forced to by the big man above me.

Essentially, I took a massive pay cut to do something I found a tad bit more enjoyable and I now enjoy programming as a hobby once again.

Depends. Is the job you love an employable skill, that offers the ability to specialise? And how good is the salary for the "boring" job?

you can choose the first option and earn money for you to do the second option. it is not always the passion that matters especially to me that has a family to feed and a lots of responsibilities to pay.
but in the other hand, you can do both at the same time its just a matter of time management and prioritization.

Yes, but, what if the good-salary career you jumped into, is going down the tubes because of the fake Coronavirus pandemic?

Britain's deserted hospitals: Cancer victims forgotten, vital operations cancelled and ghost town A&Es where patients fear to tread - a devastating exposé of how those WITHOUT coronavirus are shamefully left behind

The photographs show the deserted casualty departments at two of our biggest hospitals.

They were taken in the daytime amid the lockdown ordered by the Government to fight the lethal virus Covid-19.

In normal times, the waiting room at the Royal London, in the East End's Whitechapel, would be busy with 500 patients walking in from the streets to see a doctor every 24 hours.

I know my initial answer is a bit of to the contrary of many others here, but I don't think a lot of people understand what I'm really saying is that you should find a good balance between something that you like and something that makes you money.

Maybe I really love playing the guitar, but I know that I'm bad at it and I know that I can't make a career out of it. The same could be said of many other things, like maybe Carpentry, or Auto work, etc. Some things you're just not good at and that's acceptable.

Find balance between something that can bring you the financial life that you want, and that you like enough to be able to do everyday without being miserable. Don't forget we all die in the end.

Can you live in a salary on a job that you love the most, if the answer is yes then you can go with it, there is a big chance of improvement with your salary and career if you do the job that you love the most, but if you cannot live then you should choose the other one and if you are more stable you can pursue the job you love.

I can tell you from experience to do the thing that you love. Of course if the difference in money is huge, you'll be better off with that first option but when we're talking something like a decent salary and a job you love vs a 50% premium doing some boring repetitive shit, always choose the first option!
I used to do work a very hard and demanding job that was stressful and I never knew if I wouldn't get fired the next day. At that time I was earning in one year what my friends needed 5 years for, but I'm glad it's over and I don't have to do it again. Getting burned out is the worst thing. I needed about 6 months to recover from that and start living again.

Why settle for one and not both?

Look, the basic thing is, we get only one life. Would you spend it collecting dollar bills and not enjoying each moment of your work life? Would you choose a profession which you don't like or enjoy and in it only for the money? Isn't it like forced prostitution? Where one just sees money and doesn't enjoy!

There are lots of motivational speech that says work towards passion and many try to debunk them. But the reality is what the motivational speeches say.

If you follow your passion and do what you love and is good at, you will excel. You will not make very much amount in the beginning, but as you progress and you will progress at an accelerated rate, you will make money so much and it will not be your primary goal because you would be enjoying the journey of your favorite profession.

What will you do with the money you earnt by working so hard without enjoying at all? You will spend it by doing what you enjoy. So why not make the profession enjoyable?

Life will be full of frustration if you walk on the way only because of money. My opinion...

It is very difficult to find a balance on both.
I don't say that you can never do it, but in most cases you cannot do what you love and get a lot of money - compared to another job that might not be satisfying doing it but pays more.

In order to create your career you've got to find out well what you would like to try to No work is often done by the force to enhance my life I prefer both an honest salary and a career. First I even have to create my very own career If I build my very own career ready to will be able to get employment with such an honest salary Which is enough to stay my family's people well I would like to earn more and find a better paying job to create my career.

Life is all about finding a compromise but personally I would prefer to do something I love to do as typically you'll be better at something you enjoy doing.

obviously all want to work because they want to get a salary, and if possible the best salary. so I agree with the opinion that with a position in the best job, the salary will automatically automatically follow will get the best. no one wants after getting a salary position it is not good.
but if told to choose as you said clearly all want to choose a job with a good salary even though the job may not be suitable. but not all will do like that, there are those who are actually happy because the work is suitable for what he wants even though the salary may not be too large. but it must be remembered that with an increase in position clearly and appropriately must get the best salary.

One thing I can say about this debate is that the more you age, the more you will be practical and choose a good salary instead of following your passion. If you want to work for the job that you love, you will eventually burn out and you will finally fall out of love of it.

If you are not yet stable then go for the first option until you become stable and pick the job or work that you love doing but there are instances or opportunities where you can have both, it depends on the kind of industry that you are in.

I tried the first option, it didn't go pretty well for me because the job requires extreme amount of research and time that Job is in the Tech Industry. Everything must be finished before deadline and fully polish and i had to go countless times to work without any proper sleep and i end up quitting that job.
Now im trying to find a job that i really love so i won't complain despite how hard it is.
