In my opinion. If there is an MMORPG that is really good and integrated with crypto and world currencies. It will be a really good to invest in that game. Because it will be like a second world but on a virtual aspect. I hope that someone reads this message and makes a game just like that. And i hope its a really good and dynamic game with in-game currency that you can exchange into real world money.

Noticed this topic just now. I just wanted to let you know that I have completed for 85% such a world as an old school 2d rpg.
Playable in browser, mobile and desktop.

I don't really get the idea of implementing the blockchain to the mmorpg...only for various ways of donations, maybe...but that's not, what you want to hear, isn't it? If you do so - think not only of the game itself, but also of a generous and multifunctional coin, if it's going to be used outside.

Just to get this straight:

There is an in-game currency which is a completely normal cryptocurrency, which can be traded on exchanges and so on. Players receive them as a reward for quests, devs make the money for server costs (etc...) from ads. Furthermore, at some stage in-game the players would be enabled to mine the currency (with their PC, but there is also an in-game interaction, with a dwarf or whatsoever).

It's interesting idea because always been economies problems in mmorpg. Inflation - main problem and dark business

Basically I was always interested in a game which has a real economy and a cryptocoin.

I have already created a thread about that a while ago (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/idea-for-a-game-1891013) and I don´t want to post everything I wrote there, here again.
Now I have found a partner (https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/arkangames-1136926) which is as excited as I am about this idea and has his own thread about this (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/mmorpg-development-crypto-integration-options-2168623)

Basics on the game which we imagine:
 • A MMORPG
 • Engine is unity
 • We have basic concept about story and game mechanism (like it will be medival with magic, story,...)
 • The game should have a cryptointegration, this means that the ingame currency is a cryptocoin which can be traded ingame for stuff, between players and also outside the game.
 • There would be a main world, where main story takes place, but if you continue to play, a player can own his own city, and recruit other players as his knights (guild system)
 • Dynamic story: Your choices affect your entire gameplay, f.e. depending on your playstile you will become a different character and race. (everyone starts as human, if you are into pvp and don´t show mercy in the story you will become a daemon, and so on)

We want the game to be liked by the community, therefore we would like to give everyone the opportunity to share his ideas Smiley
Ideas would be, how do you like it: 2d,3d, graphicstyle,...

If you want to help us even more, you can join here: https://aravalgames.ryver.com/application/signup/members/IpfpYsipNI5vBvL

nice idea, but won't you need a handful of capable member to accomplice that? Though an in-game payment with endless playtime and DLC & DL Stories is obvious

Well, you should think very well about balance and so on...because if the ingame money will be possible to trade outside the game as well...

You should consider making the coins mineable or something similar in the game like how coins are mineable in the real world. Imagine a player mining in a mine and finding a material to be exchanged for the coin or something similar. Would be cool if the players where in fact doing PoW while playing the game Smiley That way you would have natural inflation.

For many things you the developer would be able to remove coins from the eco-system by selling things which are only possible to purchase from NPC vendors. If inflation is too high you can raise prices at the vendors for materials used for crafting etc.

So in the end you as developer will earn the most from this but also gives an incentive to people to farm.

Hey there,

I'm Mike from 8 Circuit Studios and we are completing our prototypes for blockchain based game assets which we call Smart Game Objects. Smart Game Objects place assets from your game, like collectable items, limited edition, rare drops, or any other items of value on the blockchain so the the players can own, sell and trade them. Additionally, we have completed our integration of wallets and ERC20 tokens in game.  You can watch a demo here of the wallet and token integration.

It's likely that we have overcome many of the issues you will run into in designing your game and we would be happy to collaborate with you on your implementation.  We're just excited to see other people making blockchain games.  Let me know if we can help in anyway!

Are you interested in using gaming to generate coinbases? Is gaming what rewards new coins or are you talking about a game that uses real world currency?

I found deedbot.org one day, which is an auction system for a game called Eulorum. Eulorum uses crypto in game. I've never played the game, so I'm not too sure how it all works, but it's the first crypto implementation I've seen in a game besides something like satoshi dice.

I would be able to create the economics of the game play, and work at the financing, budgeting, risk management, and accounting. Feel free to PM me and I would have no problem signing a non disclosure agreement.

Is this game still running or exist...
I going to try it today.
MMORPG affiliated is lowering population this pass days and no payout though

I finished my part of the deal but the other dev left the team, unfortunately.  Sad

I want delete my work (Map, wiki, story content (which is almost a book  Cheesy), concept) and wait for another dev, or try to develop it myself when i have time

Look at chimaera, it will be released next year and i think you can use it to build your game.

This is a very good project, I like playing MMORPG style games since I was young, so it would be very interesting if there is a game that is designed and build around using crypto-currencies as the in game money. It would be good if there is an auction house for weapons, shields and gears.

Players can farm items for different classes while playing the game, and sell them away for crypto-currencies if that item is not suited for use with that specific class hero, and the website can charge some admin fees for every sales of items on the in game auction house to pay for server maintenance and developer fees.
I love playing MMORPG games, because it is so easy to play and it gives enjoyment to the player. I'm looking forward that MMORPG games will apply to crypto currency. Like faucets that when you play games you can also earn bitcoin or any crypto. I think that is a good idea because together with enjoyment you can also gaining income.

We have thought a few ways yes. Secondly yes there would be two currencies. A normal currency centralized and a premium currency which would be crypto.
We are welcoming any ideas related to managing crypto and the way it should be in game.

I would look into the system Guild Wars 2 had, and League of Legends has.
Meaning cosmetic only things are sold by premium currency. (Thats your currency sink and guaranteed value)

But I think you would have to act as a exchange to sell those coins to players as well, they could trade it with each other for normal items, and even make a living being good at trading/the game.
You will have a lot of engineering to do there, how to make the transactions safely in game, how to hide the complicated stuff behind a layer of obscurity(all the keys and numbers)  so its approachable and still secure
But the thought is kind of exciting.
I would recommend looking into how "Entropia Universe" works, its a game where currency is 1:10 with USD, both in and out. The whole thing is structured like a futuristic-MMO, but its really a casino underneath.
Even doing something like that with crypto would be less fees, more trustworthy

How do you plan to do this?
In every game currency generation undergoes hyperinflation, even with a lot of sinks
Do you mean as a premium currency that you cant get by playing the game outside of trading , and have a normal currency below it?

How about being able to build mines in-game which generate the actual currency?
We could call it proof-of-achievement.
If you have mines, your game-client will also actively process and encrypt transactions.
The more in-game mines the more client-processing will happen, this should be scaled by being able to add external hardware (cloud miners and asics etc.) which could all be managed from within the game.

CryptoTalk.Org - Get Paid for every Post!
I always imagined to see a MMORPG with nice graphics, sober colors/textures/characters/items... I mean more like real life and not crazy huge flaming swords with japanese cartoon characters with their heads bigger than their body, this kind of unreal thing.

Also many skills to train like RuneScape, where one skill is necessary to evolve the next one. With many skills there are many items and stuff to be created by the members, they could sell it, move a solid economy in game, what makes much sense with the Cryptointegration system you want to do. If the game is good there will be people paying to play and other people making profit from the game (if they are really skilled on it).

Good luck with your project, I hope you find the ideas you are looking for.

For the beginning, do not run this game with "bitcoin" intentional.
As we know players will keep playing if they get a great experience in your game. We will know about it a month later after the game launched.
The thing is; it's only works for gamers, and that's why all stuff inside the game should be more attractive than any other MMORPG games which people usually could trade with fiat currency or using PayPal.

I would like to say that is nice idea.
Do you have prototype now? or demo/betta version..
If you show this to us it's will be better than text only.
May be do you have pictures?

We try to publish a alpha in ~ 1 month.

I am really a huge fan of universes with much content (Tolkien universe, Warhammer 40k, ...). I will create as much content as possible (backgroundstory for each race available,...).
The story will be dynamic and with huge effects. For exapmle everyone starts as human and depending on his behavior and choices he will convert to another race (do not worry this fits to the content).

For now we focus on making a alpha, after that beta, then publish whole game and then we will have time to think about keeping the players  Cheesy One thing we agreed on is listening to the players what content shall be created. So if anyone has suggestions pls let us know.

One of the games which I was really impressed with (in terms of rich content) was this little gem called King of Dragons Pass. It was a boardgame style RPG, but with very intricate stories and "creation myths"... if you spent the hours required to read them, you'd have a better understanding of what worked culturally and socially in the game (it didn't practise what we'd consider as norms in our society). The style was wonderfully maintained throughout the game. The music worked. Even the 2d hand-drawn art was extremely complementary.

I played the PC version when it came out in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was considered a flop at the time, couldn't compete with the age of FPS and action-oriented RPG. But a few years back, they re-released the version for iOS and it was a huge hit. Updated only a few stories, but ported the entire game over and charged I think $5 for the game? Made them a lot of money... not bad for a game over 10 years old!

My point is... there's an entire generation of people who love a good story, now getting on with age. You might find them a huge part of your game if you build good content. And more importantly, that content has to be synonymous with your brand. It has to be consistent. Can't be sci-fi one time and suddenly horror fantasy, and then medieval when the writers change.

Sorry for being long-winded!

Your suggestions are appreciated  Wink

Oh wow. Not to burst your bubble, but if this is your first time developing a game. You should not start with a MMORPG. It would take years to even develop alpha... You should read a bunch of game dev horror stories about how they were over their heads when choosing such a big project.

Have you considered the legal implications yet? A lot of countries has not accepted Crypto currencies as legal tender/currency. In the USA for example, Bitcoin is seen as a commodity, not a currency. To bypass this problem, game developers has been creating their own in-game currencies. < example : Crystals > and they sell bundles of these crystals to gamers. < These Crystals can be bought and paid for with several payment options : CC / Money transfers / Bitcoin etc. >

Do not exclude other payment options that are regulated by governments or you will get trouble. If you want to go the legal route, let people pay for these Crystals via Payment processors. < governments wants paper trails, then they are happy >

Good luck with your project, looking forward to see the results.

Another aspect that would help with longevity is content. It takes quite a bit of time to build background - most new ventures and almost all new games have a very loose universe that they just patch stories on. It works for a while but tend to end up as meaningless noise, fillers for whatever new quest or adventure. I'm not saying you have to create an entire Tolkien compendium of literature, but it helps to have a solid "creation story" for your world that would already set out overarching themes for latter content.

Do you have an idea on how you would continue to generate and build on your story?

And I would begin releasing screenshots and small videos soon.
Will wait on this thing and I'm more an image person and looks on the things if that is interesting together with the story of the game that you are now developing. Make those videos attracting so every MMORPG enthusiasts and gamers will have to take a look at your game and will try it for sure. Best of luck arkan and user365!

User365 would be working on story part. He would probably start writing a wiki soon. And I would begin releasing screenshots and small videos soon.

One thing I feel like mentioning we intend to make this game inclined equally or more towards strategy and puzzle solving and decision making.
The game would be more about how your decisions taken at every point in game shapes your character and the kingdom you own.

While the game would have some kill slash action we would not focus on that too largely (eg. attack effects , graphics.. etc) .This is simply because we in current form would be lacking enough funds for creating those shiny and bright special fighting effects . This may change in future though.

We are seriously looking for any suggestions regarding revenue generation ideas. More we can generate easier to support the game and give back to players.
So do throw anything that comes to your mind about that.

If you are pretty new at games you may want to start with a simple game, depending on your budget, team size, etc.

For example, the game call Realm of the Mad God was supposedly made very quickly for some contest (I read that somewhere don't quote me on it). It uses 8 bit retro graphics and is a ton of fun.  I think you could integrate some of your ideas into a game like this.

Also there have been a handful of games that used in game currency that could be bought/sold for real money, such as in Second Life (never played it but I think it was possible). In this type of game users create content, maybe a skin or in game item or whatever, and can sell it to other players.  AFAIK games like this never used an actual crypto currecy but it also seems similar to your idea.

No idea what your team looks like, but I can do music and sound effects.  PM if interested.  Also keep it updated, I am interested to see how this evolves.

You should make it where items in the game are collectible, by only making a certain amount of each item it will give the items more value and you can make some items Ultra Rare, some Rare, Some common etc. kinda like Magic The Gathering. That would be dope and would give the items more value. Just an idea.

I would too want some real politics kicking in the game.Players forming alliances , betraying in alliances, revenge, Helping a friend, Asking something in return for an alliance etc. User365 will look into this and incorporate some of these features some how I believe. Smiley

Some ingame relations are definetely good. But if you want to make a roleplay world I wouldn't reccoment to put mutch attension to this aspect. Once I've seen players making alliances (even if they were playing on different factions) just because there was a chance to do it but not a because whole game was focused on it.

Since it's difficult and labour intensive to create a great game, I would probably prefer a really well made 2d game over a sloppy 3d game. Not sure what your resources are, but that could be a point to consider.

It seems as if graphics have taken too much importance in modern gaming, which has been taking away from good stories, well thought through worlds, mechanics and just general content.

Either way, I'm interested. Is there a newsletter to subscribe to or any other way to keep track of this easily?

Do you have any estimate on when you'll have a beta or anything like that?

We are testing up base concepts with 2.5D and 3D. We are aiming an alpha at end of next month. Smiley
Nice! What do you expect the alpha to have ready for testing out?

Alpha would include:
- Playable game, very simple, with not much content
- Concept of the story, races, map, world (not in playable version)

Empty as of now. We would soon posting up things in there though.

Thank you, will check when I get home!

Do you have any estimate on when you'll have a beta or anything like that?

We are testing up base concepts with 2.5D and 3D. We are aiming an alpha at end of next month. Smiley

Greetings OP and partner! I have always been deeply interested in RPGs, from my D&D days of pen and paper RPGs, so keep a look for projects like these (I commented on both your threads, so am happy to see you band together).

It's great to see the ideas you have, but I would strongly suggest you decide on the foundations of your game before you head into the technical details... something very long term that describes your vision for 1,3, 5 years. Questions like "Who will my players be and how long do I want them to play?", "What will the motivation be, crypto rewards or a fulfilling experience?".

I say this because I yearn for the sort of games I used to play with friends... where our interest an engagement ensured longevity, rather than a monetary reward system. Don't get me wrong, I think monetisation (or crypto-isation?) is good - both for operational costs and to keep a regular flow of new (if temporary) players.

I suggested earlier resets - this is important, but with lasting rewards that carry over without giving players an edge from earlier resets. Another great system established in the game Utopia was the randomising of guilds. You started every reset scattered randomly over "islands"... and with about 20 players (states) on one island. Somehow, because of proximity, you had to band together, agree to vote on a monarch to form a kingdom. Kingdoms had slight advantages in war, economy, depending on the popular support of their populations.

This prevented the creation of superkingdoms from each reset. Those who really liked each other formed natural alliances. People betrayed their own kingdoms. People were free to change their votes, free to buy votes, free to blackmail votes with intra-island war.

That simple level of politics and user engagement was enough, and can be more complex. But I never really saw anything quite like it since.

I would too want some real politics kicking in the game.Players forming alliances , betraying in alliances, revenge, Helping a friend, Asking something in return for an alliance etc. User365 will look into this and incorporate some of these features some how I believe. Smiley

 • There would be a main world, where main story takes place, but if you continue to play, a player can own his own city, and recruit other players as his knights (guild system)

Is that something like garrisons from WoW? Like a guild garrison?

The idea is not complete, till now, but basic idea would be cities built and ruled by players. The city belongs to a faction (there will be ~5 to 7, humans, demons, ...) and if another city does not belong to the same faction you can attack it. Around the city there is land, which can be claimed and produces resources (of course you can conquer the land). A city belongs to one player, which has many other players living in his city and fighting together (like guild master and members). We will implement something to prevent that everyone builds his own city.

 • The game should have a cryptointegration, this means that the ingame currency is a cryptocoin which can be traded ingame for stuff, between players and also outside the game.

Sup mate! I still doubt about this point. it might be a "local" currency for your ingame world but it will hardly succeed outside. At least untill you will have thousands of ppl stable online most of the time. Anyway as a mature MMORPG nerd I'll try to keep an eye on your project and shitpost on your threads Smiley Also if you will ever need any extra view from the side or anything else then just let me know.

Good to know that you found a partner for now though I'm not familiar with arkan games. It's good that you have the same idea and interest for building your own game. Please keep us updated here, this game is good for the crypto community that wants to have a game that's integrated to crypto currency. You are having fun while you are earning, this is interesting project. Good luck to you guys.
