The figure is quite high and it may trigger a lot of financial and mental problems if this persist, they should do something about it, they can set up an advertisement campaign online and on TV, this is an additional disadvantages of the pandemic people are lock in their home with only internet and TV, we cannot stop them from playing if they like we just need to educate them and ask them to be more mature and responsible.

Not sure who to blame over here. But if the problem is this serious, certain steps can be taken. Gambling laws can be made strict. Probably they can add more tax on gambling which will eventually discourage people from gambling. Another way is to run various campaigns and make people aware of the problems created due to gambling addiction and let them know the benefits of gambling responsibly.

I was expecting the quarantine/lockdowns to trigger some sort of increase of people's addictions.
Many gamblers use their addiction as a form of "escapism"-running away from the problems and from the stressful situation that is happening around the world.

If UK has this problem then they should set up an education campaign on how to control excessive gambling especially now that we are in a pandemic, people will now have a good reason to gamble more, they can impose on online gambling sites that operates in their country about putting a warning on excessive gambling, just like they do in cigarette and alcohol.

There are some reasons why these addicted gamblers affect other people with their gambling addiction. One is the peer pressure. Probably one person in the group is addicted already into gambling and he introduced it to his friends. Out of curiosity, these friends tried to gamble and they got addicted into it since they see that gambling is fun. These is one of the possible reasons why many got affected into others gambling problem

It might be true among the young generation mostly

As the majority of adults have already been exposed to gambling at some stage in their lives, and if they didn't turn into addicts before, it is unlikely they are going to become such now, even if their friend or friends are going to try to reintroduce them to this activity. They may play for fun but then quickly lose interest and switch to something else. Unlike the coronavirus, gambling addiction is not that contagious
I think the same, however there is the possibility they can still affect their friends in many other ways, one of the most common is to ask them for a loan giving them the excuse they need it for food or rent and instead use that money to keep gambling, since we are talking about two people that were close to each other it is unlikely there is a writing agreement about the loan and as such it will be impossible to prove that it took place, which means the friend that lent the money most likely is never going to get it back getting affected in the process, also the addicted friend could steal from them to keep their addiction going.

It’s also worth mentioning that the report further claims that around 3.6 million people were effected due to someone’s else gambling problem, though I don’t understand how would they be effected by someone’s else gambling problems?.

Lastly many experts have downplayed those numbers quoted in the survey, but they have acknowledged the truth that addicted gamblers are not getting the help they require to cure themselves, and since we’re a community I feel that we should try and help these gamblers as, and when we find out about their gambling addiction.
Curing gambling addiction isn't that easy to do especially if that is your habit or it is part of the daily routine of the person already.

Some of these love doing it so they can't quit on it. Some are just addicted on it that even they want to quit, their body doesn't want to and this happens to some addicted ones not only in gambling but in other vices such as liquor and cigarette addiction.

The pandemic had push people to go gambling. Those gamblers who are often to go in the casino will possibly they'll come into online and that it certainly adds to the numbers of the gamblers where they are at online gambling.
I believe that this case isn't only happening in the UK but it also happening globally at this time.
And most probably, those who do not really gamble tried their luck in online gambling during their stay at home. And since there's nothing much to do, there is a huge tendency that they'll get hooked and addicted to online gambling.

Those family members who are not gambling should always check on one another. And maybe shift their time with their phones to something more productive so that they won't be addicted in gambling and other forms of online activities because too much of something is not good at all.

GambleAware charity in association with Yougov conducted a survey which revealed shocking information, that around 1.4 million gamblers (UK citizens) were facing problems with their gambling addiction

But how could it be any different?

When you are forced to stay at home for weeks on quarantine, with essentially nothing to do, it is no surprise that many people has taken to online gambling as their pastime. And from there it won't take long for some of them to turn into full-blown gambling addicts. As an aside, we should also expect the birth rates to soar by the end of the year (sad irony, this is going to make up for the loss of lives)

That kind of situation is really forthcoming because of this pandemic situation. It will be no surprise if a lot of them will incur heavy debt afterwards. It is up to the individual if he wants to be in a situation he doesn't want to. It is their choice, so their responsibility whatever are the consequences of their actions.

The  3.6 millions that were affected are people that are close to the addicted gamblers, mostly it's their immediate family or those who live with the addicted gambler. I think with that huge number it's already alarming, but who would be blame here, the gambling operators or those people who let themselves get addicted in gambling?

My answer only gamblers should be blame, they are not responsible so they face this serious problem, I also think they deserve some help from the government as the government are making money through taxes from these gambling businesses.

Gambling addiction is worse these days becasue of people getting stuck in their homes and they have nothing to do. They play gambling all they long and due to this it is easy for them to get addicted. I hope once the lock down is lifted, people will get back to work and they will be less busy in gambling.

You are right. When many of us now still at home and need money to survive, we don't have to play gambling because that money will be too important for us, and we don't have to use it for gamble. We'd better use that money to buy our daily needs, and keep the rest of the money for the next day, just in case, we have urgent needs that will need money. We can play gambling, but we need to make sure that we can fill our needs without a problem, and we still have money for other purposes. If we can do that, we don't have to worry if we cannot buy daily needs because that is our primary thing.

The problem with other people, they spent their money to gambling thinking that they can generate more only
to realize that they'll lose it instead.
The more people who are engaging to this business the more generated money from the gambling industries.
bankers enjoy while gamblers losses more.
It's not surprising since people can't go to land base casinos they are finding venues to play and online are
easy to access.
They can play inside the comfort of their house without worrying with the pandemic virus.

I feel concerned about gambling addiction in the UK, if not taken care of immediately it will be dangerous. Because someone is a gambling addict
usually can give a bad impression on the surrounding environment. Hopefully the government in the UK provides free facilities for rehabilitation
gamblers who are already addicted. This is the fastest solution to reduce the number of gambling addicts.

I don't take loans, ask for sig if I ever do.

There are a number of possibilities as to how gamblers affect others with their problems. First would be about money. Addicts tend to not give up even when money is gone, so they ask for loans, debts and the like, even lying to the other party about the time they'd need to pay whenever they would ask for another loan. Second would be violence. You never know, Addicts just may up and become violent to you if you refuse to give them money right? There's also an issue when the addict themselves have a family since it's easy for both 1 and 2 to happen to the partner of the addict, marking it as a terrible event.

And true to the fact that addicts aren't being helped enough. Mostly because they have no money to ask for help from famous doctors. And those free anti gambling addict campaigns are mostly just shills, they aren't really effective, either because the person hosting the event just wants attention, or just that his ability fails to go up to standards. Not blemishing their efforts though, just that, it's not enough.

Infortunetly, this can't be observed or controlled by governments as it be becomes easier to reach with technology. See how much gambling platforms are spreading the internet, the gambling industry is one of the promised field during quarantine and without quarantine.
Gambling is an addictional behavior and may take many forms. IMO, participating in ICOs without enough knowledge is a sort of gambling, doing daily trade is also gambling, so don't focus only on those who make bets against the house.
quarantine period makes gambling + more...
actually this is a dilemma, the government that controls the gambling of its citizens seems to lock up or spy on its citizens, citizens need privacy and security but it must be controlled too. alluding to the understanding of ICO I agree with your opinion, following the ICO without further knowledge of the target project is gambling.

There will be plus and minus, on one side the quarantined have made newcomers came and use crypto currency to play gambling due to most gambling places are closed. They use bitcoin and maybe some altcoin to play online gambling like casinos or dice gambling. At least they will be aware of bitcoin and will use it when they play gambling. And yeah, the worst thing that will happen is many gambling addicts which can't control their habit. They will play all day long because they didn't do anything in their homes. However, in the gambling industry, there will be people who are harmed and it is up to them, they know their own situation better and he should have thought about priorities.
It's a shame people got into gambling during the coronavirus lock down... I mean a lot of people were stuck at home with a lot of time in their hands and no job, it was an unique opportunity to do something they always wanted to do (learn how to play an instrument, improve their homes, setup a new garden, etc) but they chose to waste this time in gambling...

This is just bad. I just said in the other thread that I was just tagged by my playmate at 10 years old and I've seen this. I agree that gambling addiction is getting worse, people tend to believe in things since it just look easier to win but it is not that easy, and I learned it the hard way. Even though we are under quarantine, people are still gambling, right now the quarantine here is getting lighter and lighter, who knows when will these gambling places be open since it is a long time since they bet again.
It's normal to play gambling since we all do gambling already with our own life everyday. The difference is that they bet money in a form of entertainment but in reality if you would fall for the greediness because you let your emotions guide you then you will likely get addicted to these gambling games everywhere.

It is up to us people to control ourselves and make a gap of our lives to this gambling activity versus our own personal family life. Always remember that gambling is just merely for an entertainment only and don't cling to the feeling that you might win big because casinos are not design that way, it was just a temporary feeling.

This information is really bad for the number of gambling addicts are still on a high rate due to unmanageable gaming experience. Actually, seeking help would be easy for there are many professional people that could help those that are affected by being addicted on playing gambling. It is just that the help would be efficient or effective if the gambler would also help himself out because nothing would happen if he just undergo int certain treatment but he doesn't help himself to get over playing gambling or controlling his playing to get rid of addiction.

Moral support and presence of people he trust would also be a great help on fighting gambling addiction. We must all be aware that like other cases, gambling addiction is something that we must take seriously for it is affecting not just the individual but also the people around him. The key to avoid addiction is really to control and manage your gaming for the addiction starts when you are already in no control of yourself.
