Why would someone try to hide their Bitcoin involvement from their friends that tried to teach them all this while?

I feel somehow about my friend because I just found out that he has been into Bitcoin for a long time, probably before me, what's surprising to me is whenever I tried to enlighten him about Bitcoin he always Shawn me down and say he has no interest..

Today I get to know from a relative of his, who thought that we are into Bitcoin investment together, a coincidence that brings up some suspicious thought, now I am left with thoughts of why he was hiding this all along from me?

At first I though maybe he was scared bringing me along, but it doesn't make any sense because I thought I knew better than him and I needed to teach him.

What do you think is probably ongoing here?

Don't take it personally, and he shouldn't take it personally as well if it happened to him. Because as a Bitcoiner, as yourself "Who should I trust"? The right answer is, NO ONE. Especially when Bitcoin surges to a six digit valuation, you definitely should never trust anyone. Keep your Bitcoin in cold storage and don't talk about it, ever.

I already posted about how wealth doesn't really change the person who has it. It changes the people around the person, and how they act with the person.

The person is hiding his involvement with Bitcoin and crypto-currencies because of privacy issue. There are many people who hold huge amounts in Bitcoin and they never share the thing with anyone. I even saw someone who hold Bitcoin rejected the fact that Bitcoin is trusted, because a few people don't want others to be financially stable and that's why they use the game of discouragement. The secretive people always hold their assets without anyone's knowledge and they won't share their secrets with anyone, not even with their spouses.

What I recommend you is to not mention Bitcoin of anything related to it in front of your that friend because it isn't worthy to continue a conversation about a thing that other party is trying to ignore. You don't even need to share your knowledge with him or ask him anything about Bitcoin and his investment on it. You should also try to not let your friendship bond breaks because of his behavior, and you should keep in mind that everyone is not willing to share their investments with others.

The heart of men aren't the same you might be friends for long and but that doesn't mean he would share his secret with you, No!
Because possibly he doesn't want you to know his source of income that you won't go revealing him to others that may attack him, I know too well that when people hears about bitcoin they often feels like such person's might be having thousands of it without knowing is just some fractions. So learn to be secretive and security consciousness because people you thought are your friends are not really your friends but just your enemies.

Maybe Bitcoin is still illegal in your country as like mine. And your friend is very serious about his security and about the activities in crypto or he want to be an anonymous user. So it's not a bad thing at all. Bitcoin was created to make transections decentralized, Anonymous and secured. So he is enjoying the properties of Bitcoin.
You should not force or try to know about his Bitcoin involvements.
I thought about that too and the only way to play safe and not to draw attention to himself because of the ban of cryptocurrency was to pretend he does not know about Bitcoin and he's not interested in learning about it either. The Op feels pained and betrayed but he failed to realize one important thing that Bitcoin was created to give people autonomy, anonymity, security and decentralization and it's easy to admit that the friend is a better Bitcoiner than the Op because he values his privacy and security.

You most likely feel betrayed, because your openness in the friendship was not reciprocated.

While other people may feel like you were not told because your friend was interested in his privacy, telling you considering the relationship you have with him that he knew about bitcoins even when you were trying to talk to him about it would have taken nothing from him.

You are deeper in friendship with this person than they are for you, that is a lesson that you must learn, and also learn from them how to shut your mouth. Not everyone needs to know what you know, don't say if you are not asked.

Everything seems normal - but you need to understand that your friend also needs privacy. You don't need to know why your friend isn't talking about it and telling you that he knew about bitcoin before you - that's a very personal question and you don't even have to push him to give you an answer.

I can also think of one thing - maybe your friend doesn't trust you about bitcoin either, so he should cover it up from you even by pretending he's not interested.

-snip-  but I will make this my last comment in the thread, it's fine.
If you draw conclusions like this - then lock the topic now. I assume you've found a suitable answer and the problem is solved.

It depends from person to person, or maybe he didn't wanted to share his investment with you specifically just like he didn't shared with his other friends.
No need to feel like he didn't acknowledged telling you however sometimes it's good to stay quiet and keep investing yourself as educating others to invest in something is not an easy task.

I think that's quite normal because a lot of people like him and me are reluctant to say about our investments to anyone.
A lot of people care more about their privacy and security and there are some who also think they don't want to take the risk of getting others money at risk.
Also, there are few people who don't want others to get ahead of themselves and so that might be one of the reasons why your friend didn't tell you about bitcoin.

I mean for their safety of course. The only people who goes out of their own way to let everyone know that they are investing in bitcoin are those who have little to none of it in the first place and are only doing it for clout or to perhaps look cool in front of their friends. Your friend's clearly not the type of guy to play with his own security so I don't think this hiding of his investments from you is in any way a low blow or what. We all have ways to make sure nobody ever gets their hands on our investments, be it online or offline. I even saw one time a guy hide his investments from his wife only to have it be taken away from him when divorce came and happened. It's not wrong to hide what you do from the people you're with, and I don't think this is something you should stress over since after all, he's still your friend and it's probably for the best.

Maybe he just wanted to surprise you, and it also depends on what level of friends you guys have sometimes when it involves money, people won't tell you about it because they have multiple valid reasons to do so, and one example is they cannot reveal it to you because they fear that you might going to ask them to borrow it. If I were a sincere friend, I would leave it as it is because that was what he wanted, he didn't want anyone to know, or maybe the dude just wanted to hold his bitcoins for the long term, and at the same time, he is hiding it to others as well.
I personally think there is no harm in discussing anything about Bitcoin. Those of us who work in Bitcoin certainly talk about it with people we know around us who I know who are related to Bitcoin Through this discussion we get good results.  There is no possibility of financial loss. But your friend knows why he did that. Maybe he doesn't want to tell you about Bitcoin, maybe your friend wants to surprise you.

Your friend is much wiser than you, OP. Why do you think that you are more knowledgeable about Bitcoin than your friend? Because you are trying to teach everyone? Some people have strange behavior; they impose their interests, but they could be more modest and adhere to the idea that Satoshi himself meant.
Among other things, this mysteriousness of your friend only proves the expression that money loves silence, and in business, there can be no friends but only partners. But you, apparently, are not even his partner.

It may be for his own security. Because Bitcoin is a currency where one can hold large sums of money at once in a completely anonymous manner, many people do not want to publicize their financial status and hold large sums of money in secret. because of this, many people want to hide their Bitcoin usage or holdings. the best formula is for those who happily use Bitcoin to let everyone know about it, but those who use Bitcoin to hold large amounts of money try to keep themselves a secret.

You know that often not trusting someone is the best way to maintain a relationship with them or keep us away from various problems which will harm us. Maybe your friend thinks that it would be better for the two of you not to get involved in matters related to investing and finance, so that the two of you can keep going without harming anyone. You might think this is quite painful, but it's good if you two can go on like this without getting connected to investment stuff and that way you can maintain a friendship with him longer.

Maybe your friend didn’t wanted you to find out about his investment. I mean a person has his own will to do whatever he can, and many times we have met with persons who are very protective towards their money and always wants to hide their investment plans. Moreover another situation may have happened here. Is Bitcoins legal in your country? If not, then your friend might for this reason, hiding his investment as no one else could find about this investment.

So why are you all accepting Bitcoin as means of payment? Why are you all displaying "Bitcoin is accepted here"? Why are you promoting Bitcoin? Why don't you all keep it as secret since you don't want anyone to know that you are involved with Bitcoin.

We all have a different way of thinking, and as such, everyone is not expected to be doing the same things at the same time.
We started accepting Bitcoin in our business as a means of payment because we wanted to; it's our choice, not anyone else's. Because I want people to pay me with Bitcoin in my business, it's not the same thing as wanting people to know I'm holding Bitcoin. Beside the fact that your friend doesn't own any businesses accepting Bitcoin, he has his own reasons for not wanting to tell you or even discuss it with you.

Why the secret wasn't kept to himself? Why did his family and relative know about his Bitcoin investment?
Is it not even clearer here?
He tells his family about it, but he hides it from you. The truth is simple: he did not trust you enough for you to know about his involvement in Bitcoin. No hard feelings.

I think your replies are not right but I will make this my last comment in the thread, it's fine.

You are free not to. You created a thread to know the reason why your friend is hiding his Bitcoin involvement from you. You are getting responses, and it seems it's the opposite of what you were expecting. We all have different opinions here, and that defines us. Don't take it personal; even if you don't want to reply, you can still come back and read through the thread.
Maybe your friend is even among the members who are commenting here.  Cheesy

I would have said that you have a friend that's scared of the possible outcome in the future, he doesn't want to bring you along to see you hurt in the process, but that's not what I am seeing here.

I have read many replies on this thread and many are wrong or they are not completely focus on what OP wrote, if truly his friend is protecting himself why would he take his families along?

Don't tell me that you guys missed where OP said that his relative was how he knew that his friend was into Bitcoin all along and he pretended like he is not, the relative of OPs friend must be shocked if he finds out that there is no Bitcoin relations ongoing between OP and his friend.

This is a case of competition or envy, maybe OP had a good life earlier on and the friend was jealous and getting to know Bitcoin looks like a way to beat his friend's success, I might sound crazy but this always happens between two friends, both males and females around the world.

If all the friend wanted was privacy, his relative won't know about Bitcoin, sorry to say OP, your friend doesn't want to carry you along, maybe you are already in a better place than he is.

The truth about Bitcoin investment is, the richer you are the better, if you have enough money for investment you will enjoy Bitcoin investment.

If Bitcoin is the only thing that could change the life of people around you, you will still chose to be secret about it? Must he tell me about his stash? Must he tell me about how much he invested? It's not about the investment, it's about taking chances with Bitcoin is all.

So why are you all accepting Bitcoin as means of payment? Why are you all displaying "Bitcoin is accepted here"? Why are you promoting Bitcoin? Why don't you all keep it as secret since you don't want anyone to know that you are involved with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin isn't the only thing to change someone live, it's useless if you have very good understanding about Bitcoin and you don't have any money to buy Bitcoin. Moreover, you as a friend has no obligation to change your friends life.

Not all people want to adopt Bitcoin as a currency, not all people run a business and accept Bitcoin payment, I never promote Bitcoin outside from this forum.

The reason why he only share his Bitcoin investment with his family and relative is, family is more important than friends.

You must be have a secret thing right? does everything you've shared with your mom, you shared with your friend too?

Probably, the desire to hide knowledge of bitcoin from your friend is due to precaution and discretion. It's no secret that excessive talkativeness regarding bitcoin often led to undesirable consequences, such as theft and robbery of cryptocurrencies from the owners. Your story looks like your friend just doesn't trust you and that's why he hid his bitcoin infatuation.

If you want to clarify everything, it is better to ask him about it personally. Try talking to him and find out what made your friend keep quiet about bitcoin.

Security and privacy 🔏

The person is just trying to play it safe; you both might have been friends for a long time and share things among each other, but that does not mean the person trusts you enough to tell you about their finances or holdings.

Don't take it personal; to some point, there is actually nothing too bad about keeping such a thing from you. Friendship is not all about knowing each other's secrets.
