School no be scam, but our government don make us dey feel say no be the key and no be safe place to go, imagine wetin dey happen ryt now, no hope for tomorrow even after your education for this country

My advice na say if u get the opportunity to go school go am well, so u fit atleast knw ur right from ur left, u knw wetin I mean, nd to get handwork(skill) no bad too
But if fortune smile on u to get the both no issues get dem so as to maximise opportunity wey fit come from either knowledge, because no one go dey lost by den

So degree nd skill together deh good
But most times it depends on where life push u go na u go make a living from

Skill and degrees dey important for our country Nigeria we can not say one is better and the other is not .e dey good to get degree while acquiring your degree u should also add skill to it .Incase it happens say about acquiring degree u no come get work at the end of the day na this ur skill fit help u to keep body and soul together until u get a good job with ur degree. Some people for our country now dey reason na say school no dey important again becos of de wey things take be for de country but lie be that bcos for one to survive in Nigeria today we need this two things degree and skill , they are both important.

One should not separated from the other because both are very important as there's a saying that do not put all your eggs in one basket. Some people that have both degree and skill even multi task. They used their skill as side hustle to make money when they're off from work. Some people even bring in their skill into the job their degree has gotten them. So both degree and skill are very important, no one is more important than the other

I cannot chose between this two,but I prefer one has the both,reason being that in the world today,people no longer depend on only one thing to survive,people try their possible best to get other things doing when they've gotten a degree  to be able to get food and remain financially bouyant because sometimes,only degree cannot give you the kind of life you want to live, therefore,for you to have a happy home and live the kind of life you've always craved for,you must learn a skill that can provide you immediate Money and make you stable.

The both of them is actually good for one to achieved.
but Learning a Skill is also very important because most people wey dey work for company now na because of the skill wey them learn na him them take employe them for work, but having a degree also is very important because sometimes when you have a Degree with you and you dey work for company you go just see say one day that your degree can lead you into promotion in your work place, so that is why is always necessary to have the both.

This question is a critical one and need wisdom to choose wisely. As for me, I go for skill. Nigeria today is a tipical example why I should go for skill. What is the essence of holding a certificate that someone can not make use of. So many people today with skill are doing far better than those with certificate because with their skills they can be able to ean themselves a living why those with certificate are still waiting for their application letter or CV to be approved. Today in Nigeria even people that have not seen the four corners of the classroom but are doing very well in their skills are answering doctors, PhD holders and master holders at such using the influence of their money or personality to be in any position they want in a company why those that have gone through the processes are there waiting and getting aged and struggling to survive. According to one of my favorite musician, carizo by name. In his song he said that school is scam but the result is vital. In respective of all, I still chose skill.

Op, see ehn e dey very wrong to judge or justify something when you never dey sure or when you never research to prove waiting you dey talk. Both skill and degree dey important and both of them get their advantage and disadvantage. e get people wey get skill but no degree and  Dem dey always find am hard to communicate to people and if you no get degree company or any firm come employ you as a skilled person dey go use you like rag because you no even know your stand and you no go even Know waiting to talk but a degree holder can never be use anyhow, they respect degree holders and most degree holder no dey work anyhow their own na mostly suppervising work or manager, in fact that person wey dey find skill worker to employ you no know say na degree holder be that, wey wan employ you so that en fit use you achieve in dreams and goals and you na wey be skill worker you dey happy say dey don employ you.

In this our country skilled individuals are used more often when e come to task solving but dem dey receive lesser pay. Meanwhile degree owners collect all the glory and them pay dem higher and in a bigger office too with no idea compare to Wettin a skilled person get or know.

I for like draw the line between skill and degree and what e really means for the job market of today. Naturally for this our environment for Nigeria we dey only see degree as certificate and not the process or what it takes to achieve the degree. While skill we see him as waiting we just learn or the practicalize for months or years then we need to use am work but big difference day between this skill and degrees something.

now make I explain, when people talk say dem dey find worker wey fit offer or do something tangible for company e no means say person wey go school no fit do am, but weytin dem dey really take about na if the person in question fit think then maje something new out if a situation, but we dey see degree as something wey person just go school collect while some people really sabi the thing wey them learn for school even with the skill wey you get you no still pass them because some of them acquired the skill in the process of acquiring certificate. Just like engineering job (construction) if person wey go school and person wey learn am as skill dey in competition you no fit win the person wey go school because e don learn short cuts to problems concerning construction wey the person wey get am as skill no sabi because e just learn him own knowledge from either one man wey him own knowledge too dey limited but for the person wey go school e pass through rigorous knowledge of different scholars before e come out.

So so what employers dey look at na problem solving mindset not practicality.

Both skills and degrees are extremely important, so I don't see any reason why we should pick from them. If a skill is said to be the ability to do something well or technique acquired, then a degree is a form of skill. Think about it, doctors can't do what lawyers do, and lawyers can't do what Economists do. Your degree is a piece of evidence that you've learned a special socially needed skill. There are several opportunities one may lose for not having a degree. Economists are usually hired for their extra data analysis skills.

So, endpoint degrees aren't everything and skills aren't everything. Both are valuable and needed.

These two comparison wey you make na two important things wey e no good make person choose one con neglect the other.Acquiring a skill and degree dey important,as e stance so wey the rate of unemployment dey increase for Naija you go see person wey get degree dey job hunt but person wey get skill dey do well because ehn dey use the skill dey hold ehn side.
The rate of unemployment in the Nigeria shouldn't brainwash the people from seeing the value of education.The thing be say go school get the degree and also learn one or more than one skill to take help yourself incase no job opportunity.

I don’t think this debate or argument have a specific answer. To me oo I feel say e de base on individual perspective, like it depends on how everybody reason am. Why I talk am be say the both area for the debate no de really do well for the country. Shey na the degree aspect Abi na the skill aspect you wan talk about. Person go spend almost 20 years for school still end up not getting a job. Millions of Nigerian graduate de outside there without a job, most inside the ones  wey get job no de really pay well, another percentage de inside the ones wey get job wey de work outside their field, so they are just surviving in the work no be say zeal de for the work wey dem de do. And for the skill aspect, to me skill be like dream, something wey you get passion for. Plenty youth are out there both educated and non educated wey get skills  but still end up not using it just because this country no de make us archive our dreams.

Let take the sport aspect as an example, it could be football, basketball or any other sports. For other European countries a lot of there youth end up living a wealthy life without going to school but rather de get million from their skills. In Nigeria the most common sport na football, take you area as an example how many people wey you grow up with wey sabi play this ball and the ball no still carry them go anywhere, to even achieve your dream for this our country na by God grace.

So me I no really see any difference between having a skill in this country and still having a degree because it can barely make you survive. Na who see work em certificate get use na. So if at all I’m to choose between the 2 in this country I will still prefer to chase a dream i.e I prefer to use my skill than a degree

We gain good reputation based on the level of achievement we've made in life. I'm thinking about doing everything possible to have a smooth running career and I know it's not easy to comprehend the system but we should keep full 100% focus on the system. We should ensure on our end to meet up the require earnings and position stationed in life. Both skill and a degree is important in the system and we should always keep open minds for the exploring matches that will follow.

Both are important but considering the nature of the country now if you ask me to choose I will go for skill, skill is more valuable than degree because non of the caller job is available unless you are connected to someone that knows someone that also knows someone. Just imagine spending 5 years in the higher institution after paying huge amount of money to get a degree at the end of the day you can't be able to get a job or a good job with your degree, again imagine going for a skill probably the one that has a duration of 1 to 2 years at the end you can start a business of your own become your own CEO and even still employ the person with a degree.
I could remember when I was in NYSC Orientation camp the NYSC moderators there will always tell us that there no white caller job that is why they always emphasis on learning a skill, they introduce SEAD in other to reduce the high rate of unemployment in the country.

if the two are available then you won't have any financial issues at all because if your degree does not give you a job then your skill will give you one so is just as if any of the two will put food on your table. I love skills that have to do with construction, fashion, and many more because these are things that people need. at the same time, I don't blame the Igbos for saying school is a waste of time since they believe in trading rather than going to school. look at what is happening globally with the issue of unemployment. but does that have served their master well during trade will be settled and they will start making money? and does that only rely on their degree will be wandering around looking for jobs and at the end of the day they will be known. seriously business open does for a lot of people. going to school is not bad but the government has made it lose its value and now people feel school is useless just because it can not offer them anything. and left to me both school and skill can be acquired so that anyone that is available to feed you then you make use of it.

I have gone through some of the comments or should I say replies and in one way or the other we are all correct but I still bring my opinion that having the two is not just good but beneficial to an individual.

In respective of the kind of skill or degree we can still make a living if only we know how to play our cards properly and if course Nigeria has its own wahala, we should at least have the two of them

Both are essential in our life but we wey be 9ja believe for skills pass degree especially with the Igbo's their men believe say going to school na waste of resources instead they want to use that money to invest into business before 5 years you will gain your Degree they would become boss of their own and starts making money while you that holds your Degree will start looking for job in their offices. I know say many people go say school na scam but school as the name implies brings you more closer to lots of opportunities and teaches you how to interacts with clients and people around locality be it internationally sometimes it gives you more connections abroad and can interact with the white when their is a business corporation.

I think with this our dying economy we don't know if school is important because there are graduates everywhere and in every year by years we have millions of graduates in the labor market sources for job and works, those who goes to school hardly makes a living making life too difficult for them to survive that is why we always have this slogan that school is scam. Of curse school will be scam if we don't have a good governance in the system, school is not scam when we have a good and functioning economy where every graduates do have work after leaving school.

Why make people choose when you can actually acquire the two and make yourself more advance in terms of securing a job, because the system now only a degree doesn't cut it although that too still depends on the particular degree that you are having but majority of Nigerians know this and have started evolving themselves to make life a little bit easier the labour market. There are many Nigerian and not only Nigeria too, many people actually have the both because the society at large have changed a lot and securing and developing yourself in the highest way is the only possible solution to be different from the rest people in the market.

Talking about skill or digree no doubt skill most times is what is required for a job to be done  so employers most times wants to know how skillfull you can be over a job  but  it still doesn't take the place of a digree I think on top of a digree one needs to add a skill in other to gain relevance

These days, a degree is not really a guarantee for anyone to have a job or like the job they are in. Having a skill before having obtained a degree helps anyone navigate the financial hurdles involved in schooling, attending lectures, buying handouts and working on projects.
So tell me why after having the degree, one shouldn't improve on such skills to earn better, without even waiting for a job.

If one has no skills and have obtained a degree, it is good to learn a skill while waiting for a job, who knows maybe one might just find what makes them a millionaire without stress.
