Another sad day for Bitcoin and the alts:

Cry

The only coins in the top 50 that didn't fall today are Emercoin (up 900%), Marinecoin (up 130% but with 0.5 BTC volume), and CoinoUSD and BitUSD (which are pegged to the US dollar anyway).

What's your point? That's what young markets do. MY point was that UNO's price has been slowly rising since July. Feel free to post the chart of a coin that gained volume & value all year long.

Every single major crypto is down in the double digits. The price of a single bitcoin has reached its lowest point in 14 months. What's going on here?

The only cryptos in the top 50 that have gone up in the past 24 hours are 17. Marinecoin (979 percent but with <1 BTC volume), 24. BitcoinDark (0.57 percent), and 48. Unobtanium (16.46 percent).

The answer is INFLATION.  Bitcoin is the driver of crypto and it is a poisoned well.  The inflation is too damn high!  And it lasts until 2050s.  But will be a great coin to hold in the year 2300.

Looking at your list:
Marine Coin is joke (some dude holds them all)

btcD ... stakes coin so all interest (inflation goes to shareholders) << not a tax to mining operators but a reward to investors who also mine.

uno ... POW but mining 15coins/day <<  tax to mining operators $45 ... superlow inflation ... a place to store value.

LTC = 28800 new coins each day (INFLATION) $56,000 tax to holders per day
BTC = 3600 new coins each day (INFLATION) $990,000 tax to holders per day
UNO = 0015 new coins each day (INFLATION) $000,045 tax to holders per day

My prediction by the end of 2015;
Bitcoin >$USD4000
Litecoin >$USD200
most other alts staying bottom dwellers
Awesome.  The power of wishful thinking is strong here.

LTC = 28,800 new coins each day @$USD200 = $5,760,000 tax per day paid to the 'sCry' mining Co. (twice the actual $vol today)
BTC = 3,600 new coins each day @$USD4000 = $14,400,000 tax per day paid to the 'SHA' mining Co (bit less than actual $vol today)
UNO = 15 new coins each day @$USD4000 = $00,060,000 tax per day paid to the 'SHA' mining Co

I think that is not possible anymore. Too many "alternatives" are available and lot of BTC bag holders are moving towards crypto to increase their earning. Many are looking at BTC as innovation that was given to us by Satoshi and our job is to make it better by copying its code and add something to it. You can't get glued to BTC. It's job is done. There are many crypto that are 100x better than BTC as far as technology is concerned.

BTC will always be here in our memories.

bitcoin dies and takes litecoin with it...

These aren't the best days for crypto. But a coin like Counterparty, Ethereum or some other new coin no has ever heard about could change everything. The altcoin markets are messy these days, but there are diamonds in the rough that could reshape the future for the better - our one-stop dashboard makes it easier to find today's diamonds, and tomorrows...

Try NectarCoin's altcoin market alert system (raw online demo). Track and get Alerts on: Big Price Moves, Big Buy/Sell Order shifts, Developer updates, Big Volume Traffic, New listings

Why are you only looking at the fiat price of bitcoin as a mark of its true value? Most of us can see past that and the potential for future gains once its full potential is realized by industries and the rest of the population. Price will be erratic in the initial stages but will hopefully be peanuts compared to the future value.

I'm sure it will go up in price eventually, and when it does the alts will be worth more than they ever were. It's difficult feeling like a bagholder today, but in the future alt holders might find they have made a good investment.

Capitulation? Bitcoin has failed to make the most of its 15 minutes (12+ months) of fame and has not met the challenge of adoption. Neither has any altcoin, yet. Sometimes you have to go down to go up. Maybe this is what gets devs and the wider community to be more serious about what we should all be striving for here.

It hasn't failed. As far as adoption is going it is doing pretty well and will likely continue from strength to strength during the course of this year. Many investors are putting millions into bitcoin so they obviously see the value in it.

There are a lot of talk going on around the world about virtual currency such as Bitcoins and others.
Many are arguing that virtual currency is a reality and that it's here to stay. I personally agree with this proposition

We just need all sellers to finish selling and give up. then there will be no coins for sale when people rush to buy all at once.. the sell side is looking thin to me

Watch the amount of btc made a day. Starting 1-1-15 4,000 btc a day. 4 months ago it was ~300 btc a day.

cryptos are failing big time ,but maybe some money can be made here, but it is a hard market out there.

There was almost no green prices on coinmarketcap yesterday. The only alts going up were a few low volume ones.

Well, I reckon it's time for people to recognise that NXT is a great store of value these days. Controversial, but true.
Take a look at the 'ALL' view on CMC, with 1 hour, 24 hour and 7 day figures:

http://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/

In that list, which crypto has had the smallest drop in real value over the last week?
