People who are not invested in Bitcoin will always find it weird why we love Bitcoin so much. I guess that the best explanation is that they also will find themselves weird if they find their fortune and money in the bank, that's basically the easiest comparison and logical explanation for them as to why we're different from those who don't own BTC yet. Someday, they're going to understand why it seems to look crazy for them on how's our approach with Bitcoin but then, they'll realize that when someone has a belief and invested a lot of money and time in it, they'll find it weird as well when they've totally understood everything and why we're like this.

I was recently interviewed on air. The interviewer described my answer to her question as weird. During the interview, something led to the other and I was asked thus;
The interviewer: If you are eventually imprisoned and denied access to internet and communication for 10 year, on regaining freedom what's the first thing you will do?
My answer: I will ask for a mobile phone or a laptop to check the Bitcoin price Grin
She exclaimed that it is weird that I love bitcoin that much. She proceeded to ask if I am sure bitcoin will still be around in 10yrs time and what value will it have.
My answer: Things change alot, 5 years is alot for many things to happen let alone 10 years. However, I believe bitcoin will be around and it might worth between 100k to 300k dollars.
Well am not surprised why the interviewer called your response weird, but I guess it might have brighten the room and also put curiosity in many other people there. But if am to answer this from my own perspective then I think the first thought that would play on ma head is actually the whereabouts of my family then secondly what's the update of anything that would probably fetch me money and that's when Bitcoin comes in play.

The interviewer: If you are eventually imprisoned and denied access to internet and communication for 10 year, on regaining freedom what's the first thing you will do?

Somebody was recently watching Old Boy? Cheesy

The better question is what will you do during that 10 years. Will you be alone? 10 years of being alone without any outside communication and nobody to talk to is more than enough to go insane, like the main character in Cast Away.

I'd be focused on staying in shape and not giving up so that when it's eventually over I can take my revenge. If there was no way of knowing time and how long I have left before the end of the sentence, I'd probably go crazy within a year or two.

Let's say that I theoretically survive and come out, I'd probably try to know where my family is and then try to find whoever did that to me. If this was the government, I'd probably become a hardened criminal out of hate and resentment because fuck them.

You will only go straight to request a phone and laptop if you already had some Bitcoin in your cold storage before you were imprisoned, but when you don't have any Bitcoin that you have been holding for that time period since you were imprisoned, then what's the need to go straight up to check for the Bitcoin price?

Your reply is kind of wired to me too (but if you have Bitcoin, it's normal),because no matter how much love you have for something, unless you still have that thing in your passion, you will not think of it to the extent of going for it first when you receive freedom after a long year in the dark.

Take, for instance, someone who had a billion tons of gold buried in a place where no one knew about it, and perhaps something happened and the person was put in the dark for 10 or 20 years. We can agree that it's normal behavior for the person to go straight to where he buried his gold the very moment he regains freedom. So, @OP, before you can act according to the reply you gave, that means you must have had so much Bitcoin in your wallet before being imprisoned.

If I were in such a situation and I had Bitcoin in my wallet, then I might go straight to check the price, but if I don't have any Bitcoin, I will go find my family. This is just my opinion.

If the interviewer had asked me but this is my version of the answer.

My answer - Like others said family is more important, then will ask how many bitcoins were owned then with the current estimate.
Second answer - For 10 years there is no news what became big during those 10 years, it feels happy to see bitcoin has been above $500K. Grin

It's not weird the interviewer is the weird one it's a common reaction to those who don't have much knowledge about Bitcoin and crypto.
If the interviewer is a Bitcoin enthusiast expect a different reaction.

For now, even though Bitcoin is popular there are still many people who do not know the history of Bitcoin the only thing they know it's a digital currency that can be traded for money or they call it alternative money.

Hmm I guess you were actually trying to be funny though  Grin who actually doesn't like a touch of fun in such situations to help lighten and spice up the moment. Anyways the fact is every Hodler will definitely do just some will definitely call their family first while some will check Bitcoin price first just like you mentioned. Anyways leaving family for 10 years although it's sounds more like an abstract question but the impact is very high and I bet you a majority of hodlers will want to pull up nice after the long lost time.

If you come to think of it, just like Upgrade00 mentioned, your coins should have experienced 2 halvings of which the profit from such long term hodling would have been huge. After checking prices. I guess the next thing to do is to check making sure all offline backups are in place because losing them would be the greatest nightmare.

I am sure Bitcoin will still be around for more than a century and the price you have stated is achievable. Checking the price of might be my first move after I have finished enjoying the atmosphere of freedom if I don't have access to a phone during my incarceration. Your answer might look weird to non-Bitcoiners but it is not strange to people around here.

I will want to know the whereabouts of my family and loved ones and double check if my back ups are still intact, but checking the price will certainly be up there, probably do that on the ride back home.

Except you were kept in a secluded prison, your loved ones will always visit you in prison, so you might not need to ask after them because you already know how they are. Some inmates even own phones in prison which they use to contact family members.

Thats insane. The seed will be useless in that case. who the hell would allow importing methods to be removed?

WHO.. well kinda difficult to say... i call HIM andrew but HE wants to call HIMSELF Ava.. lets both just call HIM a narcissist(gender neutral) before HE cries and sets out more moderation killing of users(cancel culture) that dont agree with his mind and personality of how he wants to change things that the rest of the community should not have to blindly follow..
reminder HE is not god, though HE wants to be.. or a goddess.. who knows

though he wants people wrapped round his finger and control relationships and act like a p*$$y, playing a victim/little girl if anyone questions him, HE hasnt actually got a p*$$y so, he is still a he

anyway for reference to HIS game plan:

Note that we expect users who go through the effort to make a legacy-sqlite or descriptor-bdb wallet to suck it up and deal with the consequences of doing something that isn't really supported. Such users should be able to figure out for themselves how to migrate their wallets. (Maybe migratewallet can migrate legacy-sqlite to descriptor-sqlite. bdb to sqlite is way easier than legacy to descriptor).

I think it's a wonderful answer to a hypothetical question. To me, I'd first google the map of my own country (because we're currently, unfortunately, at war for our existence, so I'd need to know how it went), but sure, I guess the second thing would be to check BTC price because that's something that can truly change drastically over 10 years. The interviewer clearly didn't know what she was talking about because assuming that Bitcoin would be worth the same in a decade as it's worth now doesn't make much sense.

i don't think it's weird. while most lunatics will ask for porn magazines, a crypto investor most likely will want to know BTC price. but seeing you have been forbidden to go to the internet for whatever reason, i guess it would make sense to just watch the news inside. a TV would be great. i'm sure they allow prisoners to watch the news.

by 10 years BTC will be mainstream, they'd sure flash prices like the forex rates.

franky1 said only an irritating narcissist .

While in prison I could always as the warder for the price of bitcoin. Assuming I keep up with a good behaviour. I do not need to wait until I am out of prison to know the price. My best thought is that out of 10 warders, one will be a bitcoin supporter.

The real deal is being able to assess your assets if the technology changes with the period of you doing time there.

For a more casual reply it will certainly be one’s loved ones except if they see you often in the prison, it will be a bit awkward coming out and straight to one’s phone for bitcoin price.

As for what will be the price in the next 10 years which from today is 3 halving away. I will say the ATH by then will be more than $400k although with the recent ETF impact a bit, I expect more adoption which to me should reduce volatility if not o will have gone for a value like $600k. $150k in this coming halving, Atleast a x2 to it in the 2028 halving to make it $300k and then another x2 in 2032 halving to make it $600k.

20 years is 2 Bitcoin halvings away,

Typoo i think you meant to write 10 years

Well I am sure bitcoin will still exist in 10 years time but I’m not too sure if bitcoin will be my first thought if I could re-gain access to an internet and a computer after a long decade. I would want to know how my family and my friends are doing first and foremost. Your answer isn’t weird but it is a little unexpected I might say.

Its not weird to ask access to the internet to check the BTC price. Some of us just wake up in the middle of the night just to check BTC price.

It’s unexpected because you were denied access of internet and anything technological related stuff of course checking btc price right now isn’t weird because you are living your normal life but checking the price after being basically isolated may imply that all you care and love in life is money

be prepared core devs are already trying to remove legacy key functionality within core. which other wallet that follow core code usually then follow.. so if you disappeared for a decade, expect a headache trying to get wallets of the future from even understanding old key import methods

yep they have for last few years been preparing to remove legacy key import methods and pretend there will be a separate migration tool (eaier to just keep it in core.. but core devs dont care for whats best for users) but funnily enough although preparing to remove legacy key import from core, the irritating narcissist pushing to remove it has not actually built the "separate migration tool" he pretends would be the "promise of backward compatibility"

so be prepared if they are removing legacy soon, expect they will remove other things later..

Thats insane. The seed will be useless in that case. who the hell would allow importing methods to be removed?
So checking the Bitcoin price in prison will be useless. He sure would be hoping to have millions of money after 10 years in prison but finding out he can't import means he is penniless.

10 years is 2 Bitcoin halvings away, and even if we are in a bear period at that time, it should not go lower than the ones of the last 2 halvings, i.e, the next halving. I will put the price between $300-500k.
