The thing I keep thinking about regarding all these cringe-worthy Avalon/BFL delays and abysmal customer service, is that there is a massive opportunity to make a killing if you can provide relevant, capable mining hardware while retaining even a modicum of respect for your customers.

Here's to hoping ActM can capitalize.

Are You Shpongled?
Why is Ken not updating us? Doesn't he know that we are more important than whatever work he is doing? This is getting really annoying.

No, no you're not. The IPO is over; a solid foundation of capital has been laid, and Ken is off busting his ass to build on it. We're on a drive to a new uncharted land, and all i hear is kids the backseat "are we there yet? are we there yet??". Either relax and enjoy the ride, or get out the car.

Ps. Don't mean to be harsh, but the redundancy of the posts here have reached am all time high.
I knew someone was going to miss the (rather subtle) sarcasm in this post after they missed mine the other day re: PO Box in London.

Note to sarcastic posters: Add a /s to your post to indicate that it is sarcasm. Apparently this goes over most ESL's heads, and even some native English speakers.

But didnt mention the Phoenix Fund, or $200 million, and its been confirmed that the main point of that article - that Trader Joe was involved - was completely false. I would take every other part of that article with a grain of salt.
The $200 Million is also obviously false since they borrowed that from the articles talking about Avalon Ventures. Maybe there is an investor pumping money into Avalon to pay for their 3rd/4th gen chip R&D / NRE, but certainly not $200M from "The Phoenix Fund" and Trader Joe.

He never stated that the WSJ article was true.  Never.

He never said that it wasn't true.  The article states

However, Andrew Laurus is just one of the links in this story, explains our source, adding that the business occurring this week is a three way deal between Taiwan microchip manufacturer TSMC, Bitsyncom LLC and The Phoenix Fund. The deal is allegedly being signed in the headquarters of TSMC Europe, located in Amsterdam, and Avalon is getting an investment of $200 million through the fund that is composed of six people, four of them billionaires.

Yifu states that he is going to amsterdam to meet with TSMC.

Guess we will see.  When NDA's are involved I guess alot of things can be "false".

Yifu seems to be stating here that the WSJ article was actually true.  What do you think?  Noone has even discussed this yet cause they are set on the chips.

It all begin a few weeks ago when we received an email attached with a PDF containing the person information of some Avalon team members in China. Extortion, a familiar tactic when it comes to the Bitcoin scene and business in China. Threatened to release this information public if we do not pay up; we choose to ignore the demands because the information is quite outdated and some even are inaccurate, making this a low threat.
Everything changed when people started to knock on some team members parent's house looking for them using the information found on the PDF or other sources. This called for a immediate reevaluation of operational security of the Avalon project. This is the main source of delays and lack of communication in the past few weeks. This matter is still on going, but a majority of the Avalon operation has once again been resumed.
Just as this matter is reaching its closure. WSJ prints an mashed article consists of rumors, opinions and pieces of various stories. Avalon whilst under NDA(s) are unable to comment on all aspect of the story. We will however state the following: We were indeed in Amsterdam on Tuesday and had a meeting with TSMC and we will leave it at that for now.

NEWS FROM AVALON REGARDING THE CHIPS!!!!!!

Quote
While we have send out some chip orders, there is currently ~200k chips stuck in custom right at this moment for about 2 weeks now, this matter is very painful for us and our customers. As majority of the chip orders ( 70% ) totaling ~800k is made between early and mid-may resulting in a tight time frame to work with. We do have more chips coming in via different route next week which will ease this a little bit. (you can take this as chips will resume shipping by end of next week for now.)
We will take this time to fulfill a promise to announce the next generation chip 2 month ahead of schedule so potential buyers can make a decision. Soon we will be disabling the pre-order of Avalon Gen1 chips and only sell the remaining stock as we phase out old technology for a new 55nm, which goes on sale for immediate delivery at mid October 2013. This 55nm will retain the same physical dimension as the 110nm Gen1, only few pads were changed so getting them up and running requires very little change to existing design.
In addition, there is 2 more chip designs in the pipeline, we have decided to proceed developing Gen3 and Gen4 in parallel due to the long R&D time of low processor nodes, both of these will be a Full Custom ASIC design.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.
changing $1 million from BTC to USD requires insane quantities of asinine paperwork and requisite delays.

not sure, but NDA probably applies at least until mask is set and wafers are cut.

IOW, leave Ken alone!

If you knew that things would work, and you got the funding for those things, then you'd probably be doing what Ken is doing now, working. Not concerning himself with updating the forums for people that refresh this page every other five minutes. He's done a great job so far, he's never let me down. I've talked with him, I'm willing to invest in him, and I'm not over-invested, so if it doesn't work out, my life will still go on.
