Who has got activities?
I has got activities!

Do we know what this activity thing is yet?

And what happened to ratings?

Yes. Check the post by that admin guy in this section about it.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/activity-new-membergroup-limits-237597

and ratings are only visible when posting in the marketplace section i think

I miss post counts. Activity is fine and all, but I still want to see post counts without having to click on the user's name.

Make a greasemonkey script.
That will load 20 new urls per forum page?

each page has dozens if not hundreds of URLs to load. 20 is no big deal.

(each image and css file and ad is a url)

This new system is retarded, all it does is demote me significantly for my account not being old. I have high time online, I spend a hell of a lot of time online, I'm active, I contribute.

Me:
816 posts
9+ days logged in
Only registered 13 or so weeks
=Activity of 98

Random account:
200 posts
6 hours logged in
Registered 28 weeks ago
=Activity of 200.

How on earth does that make ANY sense.

Ok cool I am super active yet cause I don't post every second my activity level is super low nice.
Ha ha. I don't activitate nearly as much as you, yet I get a higher activity score than you. I'm awesome. Grin

Still, I feel somewhat cheated. Having thousands of posts used to mean something. It meant you were a highly valued and respected member of the community. Or, more commonly, it meant you were a complete asshat. Either way, whenever you saw someone with thousands of posts, you knew they were someone special. Now, I feel we've lost that.

It is cause you beat me by a month in signing up Sad Now welcome to place where if you were here since 2010 your respected member.

I actually think this system can be good but needs some tuning.

This new formula seems too simplistic.

Activity = number of days since your registration or a number of your posts if it's lower than that previous number.

Could as well just stated "registered 31/10/12" under your avatar

The term itself is misleading already, it has very little to do with activity.

Of it would count in time logged in, or #posts in correlation to time spent logged in, or time logged vs date registered = then we could call it activity.

Don't this incentive spamming?

No, it would take a long time to reach a high activity score with a new account, I hope people will be spending less time adding posts with no value to the discussion now that they see they can't become Hero members in a week.
Too bad activity doesn't affect maximum signature height Tongue

It really should, and ability to use colors and format codes and smilies and everything.
It would make sense. My reasoning is that there are actually two incentives to spam: achieving ranks (now fixed?) and plastering your advertisement everywhere to get a higher payment.

Don't this incentive spamming?

No, at least not as much as the old system since your join date is taken into account and you can only up your activity so much in a short period of time.

I log in religiously every day; I spend most evenings dipping in and out of reading here and always have a tab open.

I seem to post in bursts, either when something interests me or I have some transaction to arrange.

That sounds a lot like me.

Thanks, now I don't have to try and figure it out.  I was going to use you as an example (we both have very close registration dates and post count).
