Yes, afaik, contact works exclusively through the ADM addresses. if they don't want to install anything, msg.adamant.im is the webwallet with messaging function.

In the past, they gave a small amount of ADM when creating a new address. Not much, just enough to send like ten short messages. I'm not sure whether they still do it, but if they do, the first ten messages should be for free.

Huh, this is interesting... Is the Adamant team working on Telegram like groups? I mean, it is kinda weird that a messenger project needs another messengers services for communication...
