What's the expected turnaround for new bitstreams on new algos likely to be?

I do a lot of cryptonight coins and it seems a growing trend for coins to create their own algorithm variations by just tweaking a couple of settings

Some that come to mind are:
cryptonight Aeon
Cryptonight IPBC
Cryptonight b2n
Cryptonight Arto

Then you've got all the rest
Standard
V7
Lite
Litev7
Heavy

Etc etc

Regarding warranty, we haven't mentioned it and (quite surprisingly) no one has asked about it. The warranty period will be 90 days from the date of delivery.

@chup,
I think 90 days are not enough to obey EU laws for planned EU:EU sales process.
What do you mean EU:EU?  Like selling from an establishment or an office in EU? In EU:EU case  is always advantagesous for a buyer  ( and it probably would not sound  as advantageous for the seller though), cause  if a manufacturer does not provide 2 yr warranty,  the seller will have to, regardless of the manufacturer)).

On the other hand, from buyers perspective it may make sense to get in touch with Xilinx EU distributors, there are some sales contacts in EU  I remember(Italy and France). Those would have to provide 2 yr warranty.
I don't try to put anyone down here don't get me wrong. You seem legit, I am just that voice of doubt in the back of peoples heads Smiley Although I am sure most will ignore me lol.
Indeed. I would be really upset even if a $500 GPU fails, not to mention a $3.5K-5K card.

@senseless, does this 90 day warranty apply to modified FPGAs only (due to modification) or to out-of-the box  (unmodified) ones as well?

Is it correct to say that some of the other algos run much better though? Personally I am torn between trying to get one of these or trying to badger someone for an old 6 card 580 rig for a bit cheaper due to the negative outlook for gpu mining.

Ok so lyra2z is hashing at 20 Mh/s. A single RX 580 hashes at 3.2 Mh/s. A single Vega64 hashes over 6 Mh/s.
You therefore need 6x RX 580 for one FPGA. But you can get 6x RX 580 probably for around half the price of a single FPGA.

It is as I thought it would be. They are not so terribly powerfull, but they do have a loooot better hash per W ratio. They are expensive, so basically for those with deep pockets. On the other hand as this is still a fairly new field being born again from the ashes, this means there will be some birthing problems etc...In the end I would still bet on GPUs simply because they are proven 100 times over and flexible.

You all have to also bear in mind theat GPUs today are basically 3-4 year old arhitecture. AMD for instance is going on with the same artitecture simply because they did not need to get out anything new. I am sure they (and NVIDIA) have much more powerfull GPUs already prepared but are holding back. So it can as well happen you pay costly for FPGAs just to have both GPU manufacturers release relly powefull cards at the end of the year for instance. And because of mass production they will always be cheaper.

I am definitely going to wait to see how all this plays out Smiley

EDIT:

And I just read about 90 days of waranty. Is this correct? I get 90 days of warranty for a 3K$ worth piece of tech. Em ok. Meanwhile I get years of warranty for GPUs. Man if that thing dies after 6 months thats gonna be really bad.

I don't try to put anyone down here don't get me wrong. You seem legit, I am just that voice of doubt in the back of peoples heads Smiley Although I am sure most will ignore me lol.

How do we know that this is not another scam. You could just take everybody's money and run as there's no address for your company (other than a virtual office) and we don't know who we are dealing with physically.

My company (www.airsquirrels.com) is providing the deal with Xilinx and the shipping/cards.

Hopefully I will actually be able to do a PR with Xilinx to confirm.

AllMine is handling order processing and front end logistics as well as the development shell.

David Stanfill, feel free to email me directly or setup a call if you have any doubts.

Thanks for putting a name with the moniker, that alone adds trust.

EDIT: I should read entire threads before commenting, already answered

Update:

Pricing information has been released at https://fpga.land/

I've also updated OP with current lyra2z hashrate. We will post more hashrates in the coming days.

Note: we're still working on the website. excuse our mess.

Well that was quick, congrats. Smiley

My moniker, while perhaps not as warm and trusting on the surface, has my last name in it. So... Cheesy

Is the pricing set now @ 3600 for Mods & DDR4 version?  I'm in for 3.

Correct, the current pricing displayed on the site is what we will be selling for when sales launch.

If i did end up going for it, id definately go for premium model.
But as i am waiting to see people receive the cards and bitstreams, and what the performance ans hassle setting it up will be, i think there will be long delivery times if i finally decide to go for it lol.

Only a limited number of boards have shipped. We're still waiting to receive the boards we were advanced for this purpose.

Several questions :

1. Approximatly, how many time do we have before the effective sales ? some days ? week ? half a month ? more ?

2. DDR4 memory : if we already have a 8 or 16 Go DDR4 memory, can we use it instead of buying the global package ? If yes, no matter the DDR4 frequency ?

3. Is 1 FPGA enought ? Do we need several FPGA, depending on the algorithm used ?

1) Minimum 2 days, at most a week.
2) You need DDR4 2400 memory. There's also no guarantee your dimms specifically will work with this board. I should be able to test a few variations next month before shipping so we can put out a compatible memory list.
3) Yep, 1 fpga is enough. There are situations where chaining them can get better results.

lyra2z finished?

Nope, still under development. I should have some final numbers before sales launch.

Can't wait to get my hands on these FPGA cards.

I've read that you've mostly anticipated that these cards are going to end up in open air miners. Would placing those in 4U server racks be possible? Do we need to have water cooling or 6x 2000RPM fans would do the job if servers are placed in a datacenter with closed cold corridors?

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Yes, server racks in datacenters would do the job. Water loops are possible. 4U rack is possible. Obviously amazon has their FPGA inside racked servers.

The colder these chips are the better they will work. I can't wait to put a phase change chiller on this and try to operate it at -30C  Cool Shocked .

senseless,
I am very  interested to participate. I will be ordering 8 FPGAs to start with and will probably  be ordering regularly later depending on the mining outcomes.
But we have to do our own due diligence as you understand. Could you please elaborate more on the organization of the entire purchase and payments?  Is it a group buy or will we be buying directly from you, legally speaking?
Did you manage to make that deal with Xilinx about chips, will it be some other factory assembling ot as OEM units? When exactly will you receive the units?
Please, let us know in more detail.

My company Allmine Inc, has entered a JV with Squirrels Research for the development and deployment of latest generation ultrascale+ devices in / as miners. This is not a group buy, it's a sale. Legally speaking. Originally our deal with Xilinx centered around chips, but they have taken on the manufacturing role for us and will be delivering manufactured boards. We're not manufacturing these ourselves, Xilinx is. Our current delivery estimate is August. If that changes, we will pass that information along.

Regarding warranty, we haven't mentioned it and (quite surprisingly) no one has asked about it. The warranty period will be 90 days from the date of delivery.

Any reason for getting 16gb vs 0gb version? Furthermore, any estimates when these become available for order. I assume getting them to EU will be pain in the ass.

We're shipping to EU customers from inside the EU.

Currently, the only planned use for the DDR4 memory is to store multiple bitstream images used in rapid reconfiguration.

"We're shipping" ?
Does this mean once the sale opens you can already ship at the price in Europe or Euro customer will have specific pricing in € ?

The one with mods and without mods has the exact same descriptions. What are the mods exactly? Seeing if it's worth the premium...

Still working on the site, check back tomorrow.
