Exactly they are not dead and how come one call an altcoin dead if it is being in use ?Speaking about the Ethereum Blockchain, it got adopted by the government in Canada and they are making use of ETH blockchain tech to make the system more transparent and workable which is a great step. Ripple has uses and there are many others as well. So, they are not dead but would rather rise.
Not all the altcoins may find rising in upcoming bull markets but I believe most of them which are not getting delisted from exchanges and enjoying more than 2 years stay in exchanges.

Getting experts around you that will advise you right on the altcoins to invest in will be difficult because if I am to check base on the country I reside, I honestly know about crypto more than the people around me, if we are to base it on online experts, they are not reliable as many of them too has even fallen victims of these bad projects, I think the best is still to stick with the list on coinmarket, and follow the top ones which we can also still monitor their performance, in following the top altcoins too, we still have to do research and know what investors have to say about it.

That's true, and altcoins are more focused and accurately intended for trading usually, scalping they say, I tried it before in order to figure out how altcoins can provide income with low market price. And compared to BTC, it is much more different in a way that, profit depends on time based on altcoin and bitcoin.

There are still a lot of good altcoins coming, but the problem is trust and confidence it's hard for investors to trust new projects because of the current market condition, the project cannot generate enough funding and investors are more on IEO now, which they considered a much safer option.
