I like to hodl altcoins because it is cheaper and you can have many of it so that a little move up in price, you are making huge difference in your hodling. I look for valuable coins though not really easy to determine.
Cheaper and holding it more than bitcoin won't guarantee you will earn profit from that. I ever buy an altcoin which i think promising, but in few months later it turned to shit token and almost down to 1 sat, which make my investment value dropped so deep.
Since bitcoin halving will come soon, people would prefer to buy and hold bitcoin rathee than altcoin

If somebody were to HODL one currency, what could it be?
A 100% altcoin portfolio? Or a 100% bitcoin portfolio?
If I had to choose one, that would definitely be BTC. I do not worship other "peon" while the king of the market stands.

Or do you support holding multiple crypto coin holding?
Definitely! If you look at the volume of the market, only 16 billion of the 57 billion volume belongs to BTC (according to CMC) and the rest is divided among the altcoins, and that means that most people are in the same thought.

The fact that altcoins like ETH, BCH and others are slowly gaining more use has made me thinking. If somebody were to HODL one currency, what could it be?

Or do you support holding multiple crypto coin holding?
Altcoins is indeed a good investment as well but since bitcoin is the top coin, investors wants to hold more btc than to any altcoins. If you are going to invest or trade, you’d better to have good coins on your wallet. Invest on btc and other altcoins, its diversifying your money and it can lessen the risk since bitcoin can become an expensive coin again. I do support holding with the top coins, but don’t hold the shitcoins.

Maybe we can learn a two with this guy, EXPERIMENT - Tracking Top 10 Cryptocurrencies of 2019 - Month Ten - UP 39%.

Quote
Overall update – Bitcoin with a sizable lead followed by Litecoin. All cryptos in positive territory except Ripple and Stellar.

BTC and Litecoin are still far ahead of their peers, up +145% and +95% respectively in 2019. My initial $100 investment in Bitcoin is now worth $250.

All Top Ten cryptos are still either flat or in positive territory except Ripple and Stellar. Although each increased in value in October, Stellar remains in the basement down -40% so far in 2019, followed by Ripple, down -18%.

So it's pretty obvious that BTC is still the king here, his investment in alts seem to fluctuate alone but his bitcoin investment alone is up. So you can draw your conclusions with his experiment and I'm sure you will know the answer.  Grin

Diversify if you do able to do so because we cant really deny the fact that BTC would always been preferred by the entire community when it comes to future Hodling.

There were alts that are worthy to hold though that's why if you are financially capable then its much wiser to go on both sides but be sure to handle out the risk.

This type of survey question or thread has been around and you have an idea where majority will tilt towards
Not to mention that this is a bitcoin forum.

I detest making recommendations about specific coins, but I would confidently advise anyone asking the same question op is asking to hold the majority of their crypto in bitcoin.  There's just no beating its dominance, popularity, and market liquidity.  If you *have* to hold altcoins in your portfolio, I would focus only on the biggest name ones like Eth and the like, and they shouldn't make up the majority of that portfolio.  Every crypto is risky, but altcoins are probably the riskiest of all.

Proof of stake coins might be a good choice because of the income you can earn, but unfortunately all of them seem to underperform in terms of price.  I'm not sure that the income from them keeps up with their drop in value.

If it's one or the other, I definitely choose Bitcoin.

Most of the time, altcoins are constantly downtrending against BTC, as seen here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.53032250

.....so holding altcoins usually means losing BTC. I only like to hold altcoins for a few weeks or months at a time, when alts are in a global bull market. Otherwise, you can end up bagholding for a long time.

This issue has already been discussed many times on the forum.
In order to answer it, it is best for you to study such a concept as diversification, since there is no sense in investing in only one project because it involves extremely high risks.

You can learn more about diversification from topic  Is diversification into different coins really a good advice for Newbies?

What was right in the past - diversify or not?

Personally I would go for a 100% BTC focused portfolio IF I had to choose between the two, but I believe that altcoins have higher growth potential than BTC just because we haven't seen any serious institutional funds pouring into them.
As for bitcoin's movement with these past few months, it is kinda safe to buy now, like a 50/50 situation to win or not with minor spikes. 100% funds on bitcoin isn't that fun at all, you don't even have a chance to get up if you fall the only option for you after that is to wait long. There must be 2-5 crypto after bitcoin on your wallet, I must recommend the trendy ones or those that has a significant growth with past few months. We've seen what bitcoin could reach, we know what it is capable of but it is not always on that phase.

Who knows what heights can them achieve if that would happen?
There are already alts that slowly grinds to top like Verge, You can see its trend on CMC after a partnership with pornhub. Maybe Verge is the next big thing, Who knows?

The answer will depend on your goals as an investor.

If you want to spend as little time as possible checking your portfolio and balancing it and you are willing to hold your investment for years or even decades then a portfolio made exclusively with bitcoin seems like the best choice.

If you have no problems checking your portfolio every day and you are only looking to maximize your profits then a portfolio made exclusively with altcoins seems like the best choice.

And if you want to obtain good profits in the market but you want to reduce your risk significantly then a combined portfolio of bitcoin and altcoins makes the most sense.

This type of survey question or thread has been around and you have an idea where majority will tilt towards  Grin. For my own position, I believe multiple hodling is better because any potential use case coin has a time of bull.
