The point is always ensuring safety in all transactions. There are alternative block chains really are coming out and many altcoins are also out in ICOs and Airdrops, but this things are always at our own risk.

In my opinion
Quite difficult to get a half-done software chain to run at all never mind setting up a VM with the appropriate hardware access.

Do not use Windows and pre-built .exes. No need. Ever. There is nothing wrong with Microsoft software, but it is well understood and commonly used by botnet types.

Create a new account without group membership. I call it "goatse" for obvious but nostalgic reasons. Make sure the account does not have read or write access outside their home directory.

Sign out of your main account and log into that account each time you compile or run the alt chain software. Remember that the compilation & installation script is code!

Do not search for exchange sites that you own and make sure you do not save passwords in the browser when signed in as this account.

You should keep your passwords long. Agf&_78Iuyht_$W will take millions of years to crack. You should use passwords that have upper and lower case letters, numbers and a symbol such as #$.*()_%!@ Do not use underscore only as symbol because that is a common one used by most people and hackers will try that symbol by itself to reduce possibilities before trying a full set. Also if you can use a virtual machine for your wallets better and never install any software except known wallets. Take it one step further and only install the wallets from the original coin creator and not a third party.

Security is the most important. I agree with the others who suggested using a separate machine. Especially for newbies, `cause they don't know to check that malware or keylogger is not packaged with any other downloads and installs.
And of course, if you don't want to your computer be hacked, you should have a "strong" antivirus and be careful with unknown software.

if you are going to invest in crypto currency, then you should know that storing coins on electronic purses is unsafe. Therefore, pay attention to the complexity of the password, as well as the use of software.

i like the idea of Cardano Blockchain. It is a software platform only and does not conduct any independent diligence on or substantive review of any blockchain asset, digital currency, cryptocurrency or associated funds. there is a project Traxia Foundation, which is based on this blockchain. the pre-sale has already started

Some people only have one computer and that must suck. Fortunately I have multiple so I can use some of my alt-miners to do this safely.

People with only one computer can still securely isolate different wallets & apps from each other by using privilege separation. For example on Linux, run bitcoin/namecoin/i0coin/etc under separate user accounts, and chmod 700 their home directories.

thanks for the advice, as I have one computer, I did not know how to securely isolate wallets. Now I will use your advice Wink

Don't believe everything that prominent members of the Bitcoin community have to say about alternative chains. In particular, I know some people think that the number of confirmations doesn't matter and all that matters is the total expected time of the confirmations, so that 1 10-minute-average confirmation is more secure than 3 3-minute-average confirmations. If you read Satoshi's paper it's clear this isn't true; the number of confirmations is actually more important because transaction security increases exponentially with more confirmations. (His paper has approximate figures; you'll notice that accepting 1 and 2-confirmation transactions is fairly risky.

Is there a way to reverse a transaction on the blockchain or that is in contrary to the basics of a blockchain?

Make it safety, use a different password isn't limited to exchanges, but applies to forums, emails, and even pools. Most of the new coins coming out daily are created by ignorant developers. Now that's scary. Very, very scary. You have to really be careful and very cautious of the third party software.

f you have a significant amount of Bitcoins, I wouldn't run other clients on the same computer until the alternates have developed trust over a longer period of time... I'm probably on the paranoid side of things though.

Quite usefull advices for newbies, thank you for the work. However, i dont think that it can help to avoid
scams with 100% chance. I`d say that most new exchanges and monetizing projects are bad.

Yes.... Many are really skeptical about alternative Blockchain. First off, I also couldn't imagine what could surpass bitcoin. But then, after talking with experienced people I realized that any of them can move well in the market. Bitcoin is certainly good, but you need to think bigger and not focus on one thing. After all, even cash is recommended to keep in different currencies. So you are safe.

We need to remember that there are many problems that we need to deal with before coming to something more developed and advanced than the blockchain that exists today.

Security when storing crypto currency is very important. There are many known cases of hacking electronic wallets. Therefore, it is necessary to protect the personal computer on which coins are stored from third-party software.

It is a helpful advice, thanks you!! Because all we know that there's so many altcoins and it's difficult to find what's the best altcoin that is not scam, that we truly can trust. But the most important how to be safe is don't ever ever give your private details to anybody, if possible change or use different password for your email to see your coins to be safer!!!

when storing bitcoin or other crypto currency on your personal computer, be careful when using third-party software. It's also worth remembering the reliability of passwords
