I think EOS and Stellar are alternative rivals to the ethereum project, Both EOS are Stellar are offering something similar to ETH in terms of ICO start up and platform for tokens.

And technically there is lot of token which can ribval ethereum but at this moment ethereum is very popular and it's hard to beat for other Alts which are based on platform. But I think the best rivalry of ethereum at this moment in neo eos and tron. And after that cardano when they will launch. This coins also doing very good job in terms platform. Eos is growing day by day many dapps is already running very well in eos platform. And neo s kind of underrated at this moment. But they also got some very good projects on their platform. And tron is just starting their journey with BitTorrent that is also big. But at this moment bthey are rivals but it's hard for them to cross ethereum.
Stellar is the best competitor with ethereum because the platform from Stellar itself also has many enthusiasts. make people interested in investing in a few projecks on stellar because I myself have proven that indeed Stellar is the best platform

at the moment, i do not think that any alternative coin rivals etherum, the best any have done is compare theirselves to etherum and improve on it, tokens has such has been waves, stellar e.t.c

The only rivals available at this moment is neo and tron ,I don't believe much in tron blockchain but many dapps projects are abandoning ETH and going for tron but truthfully I will still choose neo over tron ,no string attached I just like neo more better

Everything all can happen but this is very hard if ETherum continues to do their roadmap and their community more and more grow up everyday
