I did quick check and it seems they also write this blog post, https://medium.com/coinomi/coinomi-reviving-our-legacy-reigniting-our-vision-df6eed9d0312. They claim they'll back to open source and support more blockchain network.

Coinomi wallet returned to having updates on 04/10/2024 after 2 years, on iOS we have the following changelog:
They are coming back and they are already announcing adding new coins... that is not a good sign  Tongue

I agree. There's no mention of fixing broken feature or bringing back server/service for certain feature.

It's good that it's back, it was hard to find a viable alternative for a multi-currency wallet, the one that came closest to this goal (which I consider better to a certain extent) is Stack Wallet (or Stack Duo for only Bitcoin and Monero).
There is also Unstoppable wallet and Cake wallet as good open source alternatives, and I consider them better than Coinomi.
Cake wallet also have some advanced privacy features like Silent Payments, and they announced support for mweb Litecoin addresses in latest pre-release.

I haven't tested Monero, i haven't used Coinomi for years, especially since there was no update for a long time.

I agree with you, today Stack Wallet, in addition to supporting Monero, is completely open source, supports P2TR addresses and the desktop versions are much more up-to-date.

But let's see if now, in addition to giving a plausible explanation to the community, they will continue to work on its development.

Open Coinomi to learn more!
I'm not in a rush to install it again, especially since they're not really giving me a reason. I don't care about supporting a new version of Android. I wouldn't even call that an update.
If you've tested it: does Monero work again? It hasn't worked for years, so they'll need to do a bit more than saying "we're back". They could start by explaining why they ignored their wallet for all those years.

ETH is now back working. Still no communication from the Coinomi devs.
If you have not bothered to get your ETH (and tokens out) now would be a good time to to it.

Might work for years, might not make it through the weekend.

And.....it looks like Dash is dead now too
Considering that no one has been maintaining and updating the software for a long time, it's expected that more and more assets will start becoming useless.

For those who still use Dash, there are native software solutions both for desktop and mobile. Plus a non-custodial web wallet, according to the information on the official website. Ian Coleman's tool can be used in case there is a difference in the derivation path.

Just did a test with my install of Coinomi and getting the red dot on Dash. Will they fix it....who knows.
There is nobody to run the nodes for all coins anymore, and we can't fork Coinomi wallet because it's not open source anymore.
Few alternative options are available and I mentioned them before, but they are far from perfect.

Sad.

They could open their code, so someone could run it.

The best is to move all your coins somewhere else before it is too late and someone actually loses money with it

Don't think anyone is really going to loose money, just a lot of time and effort moving all their coins someplace else.

And yes Time=Money but it's not like the coins are going to vanish, just going to have to jump through hoops to get them.

I don't *think* they were the only wallet for any coins, but if they are / were it's probably not traded anyplace anyway.

OK, good to know. I wanted to mention that I remember reading that MyEtherWallet allows you to select between different derivation paths during the recovery process. So, if you have a standard 24-word Coinomi seed, there shouldn't be any difficulties getting access to your ETH tokens. But you added even more details, confirming that Ledger and Coinomi use the same derivation paths for Ethereum. Unless the seed is 18 words long, there is no need to interact with Ian Coleman's tool for Ethereum account-recovery.

What caused those problems? Are they using a non-standard derivation path for Ethereum?
Yes, non standard. Just like Ledger.

Couldn't you import the original Coinomi seed phrase into an Ethereum wallet instead of looking for a specific private key that corresponds to your Ethereum address?

You can't. It is in a different derivation path.

If you just import into metamask or myethereumwallet you will see another addresses,  no matter how many you generate

There is plenty documentation about it in coinomi website

I recently had a problem to recover some ethereum (from a friend's wallet in coinomi)

You have to use Ian Coleman tool and select client coinomi.

I still have the Coinomi Android wallet installed on one of my phones. I haven't opened it for a long time. I just now opened it to check whether it still works. My old bitcoin address on Coinomi was last synced when BTC was below $25k. It synced quickly, though. I didn't have an Ethereum address there, so I added one now. And I can confirm that it's not syncing at all. There is also a "no connection" notification when I open the Ethereum address in the app.

Coin specific notes:

For Ethereum-based coins (ETH, ETC, EXP, CLO, MUSIC, MIX, POA) specifically, select the "BIP32" option on the "Derivation Path" section and choose "Coinomi" as the client.

He's dead Jim, you get his wallet I'll get his phaser.

I guess the question for a lot of people like me who just have some dust sitting in it is do you move everything or just each coin as they die.
For probably $40 in ETH I'll move it. But if / when LTC dies is it worth it for $5? I don't need a mobile LTC wallet it was just handy, my last TX was....Sept of 2022....

And ETH along with it's associated tokens has not been working on Coinomi for a few days now.
So I guess I (and others) now have to really start moving away from here.
It's a shame, it was fairly good while it lasted.

Once again I use coinomi but the value of the coins there is worth less then the phone they are on so it's an acceptable risk for me at the moment.
For higher amounts, I still like keeping a BIP38 encrypted (cold) paper wallet in my (physical) wallet. I have a backup, nobody can decrypt it if I lose it, but if I ever need it, I'll be glad I have some.

Yeah, that is my situation as well.

And if I do need to receive some different coins, it still works most of the time (except for XMR which I am using Moneruju for now)
