I usually hear some complicated ways of receiving bitcoin that would probably turn others off like the noobs or masses

If giving them btc or telling a noob to get a payment from you from btc all you need is

Step1: Go to www.electrum.org download and install electrum; save keys

Step 2: Click receive address button, copy n paste addy and send to whoever wants to send you bitcoins

Step 3:
Done

Takes literally a few minutes to setup and receive btc

And some ways to receive bitcoins
coinbase.com
localbitcoins.com
peer to trade with
paypal

why is paypal there?
how do we receive bitcoins through paypal ?

You can buy bitcoin with paypal on Virwox, localbitcoins and some other places. Be warned that you are going to pay a high price because of the chargeback risk to the seller.

never heard of virwox , though yeah i see it on localbitcoins but the prices ammmmm you're right are High

Contrary to popular belief bitcoin is very simple to use. In fact, I find it to be as simple as using paypal and even easier than setting up online banking. I think bitcoin seems confusing and scary to the general public but this will change over time.

I don't know where you saw users being advised a difficult way of receiving bitcoin, I usually tell them to use either blockchain or electrum if they can control their keys but most new users opt to use on-line wallets because they don't have enough funds that they have to worry about and also they're not completely clear about how wallets and prvt keys work. Once they understand the basics, they them selves move to safer keeping of their funds.

Learning the troll avoidance button :)
Well, I believe it's mostly about buying Bitcoins, not the actual 'receiving' part. People are afraid to go through all the hoops in order to use a Bitcoin exchange. That's the complicated part that may put people off. Receiving BTC is easy, of course!

Yep the problem is the hoops, I remember when all I needed to do was initiate a bank transfer
Money was recieved in the same day
Now with KYL AMC and all the documentation this process takes several days to occur and the application takes time.
Receiving is cake its buying that's a pain.

Yeah it's more complicated to buy bitcoin than it is to set up an address

Coinbase is easy but having to verify bank accs and what not might turn them off at first, til they get used to btc.
Don't need to verify bank accs just need verify phone number

Receiving bitcoin was never difficult. We only need an address, either from a webwallet or an exchange. Keeping them safe and secure has always been the challenge. Usually the "complicated ways" are there to secure your coins and not for creating an address.

https://bitcoinarmory.com/ Armory is another great secure Bitcoin wallet which will take you through all the steps of the process for a secure wallet
it might be easy but not NEWBIE friendly. since you have to download 25GB of Data. in other words a new user needs to wait a couple of hours at best to synch to be able to see what is what. and that is exactly an example of what OP means

IMO, experienced users don't really want to make newbies confused. They (We?) just want to warn the newbies of all the potential problems (eg. no control of private keys in shared wallets, coin loss with hacking and malware in hot wallets) and sometimes makes things way too complicated and technical for newbies without noticing it.

I think blockchain.info is one of the easiest ways to receive. It is a simple sign up for new users and easy way to get into BTC.
This. I think the future as in mainstream adoption must happen under a web interface, downloading a program is just not cool.

You can also try https://onename.com/ which is currently compatible with RushWallet and Electrum, and the coolest thing is, your username is your bitcoin address... Wink

For a complete noob or the old Joe, I believe there have to be some easier way than this, to receive Bitcoins.

Take a look at this:

While I don't personally use it (because I'm doing fine loading my Multibit on PC), I really like how they're making sending/receiving Bitcoins a very simple process like sending an email. You just need a easy-to-remember user name to give your address to someone.

First thing first, try not to treat noobs in a mean manner. The community needs newbies and the way we give names and telling how incompetent only turns off people's attention towards bitcoin. When I talk about bitcoin, there's never a dumb question. We all start from somewhere.
