For games you should buy nvidid but for mining purposes the AMD. Is best for mining . Not btc but can easily mine altcoins like amd r9 series is best for moning and is available easily . But i am using nvidia for gaming also it can mine alts Smiley

Can you please explain why is Nvidia better for games? I am using AMD 7950 for mining and gaming currently.

Look back and read a bit. Nvidia's can mine, profitably. Don't use one of the old series though, you'll need a 750(ti) or one of the new 9xx ones. They perform a lot better (sometimes one 750TI can get more than an R9 280 on some algos) for a lot less power usage.
I'm afraid that the rumor of Nvidias being shitty miners will persist for a very long time.

You cant beat amd in mining with nvidia .

I have Nvidia geforce 480 and 650ti . I get decent hash rate but as you know 480 has heat issues i dont mine alts also i'd like to play instead of wasting time on mining.

You're being ignorant of what I typed. I told you that the older cards aren't worth it, only the new ones are AMD killers.

I was going to make my own thread about this but I might as well ask it here. Do AMD and Nvidia cards perform differently depending on the algorithm? I know back when Bitcoin was mined using GPUs, an AMD part would perform much better than the equivalent Nvidia part when mining SHA-256. But nowadays I see people mining altcoins using Nvidia cards too.

e.g.

If you typically follow GPU performance as it related to gaming but have become curious about Bitcoin mining, you’ve probably noticed and been surprised by the fact that AMD GPUs are the uncontested performance leaders in the market. This is in stark contrast to the PC graphics business, where AMD’s HD 7000 series has been playing a defensive game against Nvidia’s GK104 / GeForce 600 family of products. In Bitcoin mining, the situation is almost completely reversed — the Radeon 7970 is capable of 550MHash/second, while the GTX 680 is roughly 1/5 as fast.

On a GTX 750 Ti you are probably going to get pretty much the same performance that a Radeon R9 280X currently has for X11 mining or about 2 MHS or slightly more. So now Nvidia clearly has the advantage in X11 mining in terms of performance over AMD.

Yep, Nvidia & AMD perform differently on different algorithms. A lot depends on the implementation though, but be sure that there are certain algos that perform better on Nvidia or on AMD.

AMD: Raw power
Nvidia: Power efficiency

I need some power efficiency these days, the cost of hydro power keeps going up and $ return going down.

i have always sided with AMD. I like the amd over drive program when i play games they have smart profiles.

For mining well i started later so i went straight to asic miners. Good or bad i like them :p

I have AMD but I checked litecoin mining profitability table, my card is old for mining. I think I need a new card for altcoin mining.

I like to prefer AMD because AMD is best for minig like amd r9... Smiley

I like AMD.. Smiley

Some people say AMD generate more heat so its better cause you used it for winter.

AMD has bigger hashrate with some algos, but sometimes nVidia miner comes first for new algo, which means low diff.

Mining with cards has been obsolete for a while, and for shit altcoins gpu only still amd. Don't mine with cards, don't get fucked by altcoins.
here we go again  Grin
The real question is: Are you watching the "mining/altcoins" thread just to answer it isn't profitable and altcoin are shits ?

My curiosity Wink

Until some time ago mining with cards AMD compared to NVIDIA was very convenient especially in speed. But now, in February 2015, with the graphic evolution, amd is still the best and most affordable or not, compared to NVIDIA?

Nvidia is better, more energy efficiency, but none is profitable now. So not buying any graphic card is the best choice.

If you talk about bitcoin , you talk about energy consumption .
NVIDIA obviously wins the power consumption battle no matter which card is used, though. AMD is working well
but can't make a point in bitcoin mining vs NVIDIA  Wink .

AMD is always better than NVIDIA ,I have a 2.5 GH Nvidia 9500 GT and my mining speed is 4 kh/s for bitcoin .
And sometime the monitor turn off  Huh. Nvidia are so weak compared to AMD .
Not all , Nvidia has better, more frequent driver updates, better performance, PhysX, doesn't screw up when I use HDMI with it, and doesn't do that crap native resize failure that AMD does (if I want to play Age of Empires at 1024 * 768, Nvidia scales properly; AMD flails and then screws up).

I regret switching to AMD.

AMD has crappy drivers and Tressfx. It's not just on the CPU front; apparently, because I have an AMD CPU, I can't play one of the Darksiders II DLCs.
