3900x runs a bit hot using the retail cooler. It goes up to 85ºC, guess it could be a lot better. That's with the case open and ~20ºC ambient temperature.

Water cooling is almost a must if you intend to mine. I have a 1700 with stock cooler and a box
fan blowing through the open case, and it still gets over 80C on some algos.

In other news...

The market is about to be shaken up with Intel's Cascade Lake X with huge price drops.
Way-to-go AMD for putting the screws to Intel!

Some points of interest...

AMD agressively pushing 7nm has had some issues with yield and consistency.

Intel sticking with 14nm limits improvements but maturity should bring reliability.

Cascade Lake X will br priced to compete with Ryzen 3000 series.

Ryzen, with the bigger cache, is better suited to mining CPU algos.

Cascade Lake X with AVX512 will only improve algos that have already lost the race to
GPUs or ASICs.

Limted supplies may keep AMD from lowering the price of Ryzen3 but they may be loading
up for the next Threadripper.

What else might Intel be holding back to respond?

This is exciting.

Just upgraded a Ryzen 7 1700 to a Ryzen 9 3900X.

What a beast. Cryptonight R went from 480-490 H/s to 1500 H/s.

It definitely is. Wait for the November algorithm change and see this beast mining XMR like crazy.
I am still rocking R7 1700 and Vega 56 in my workstation rig.
Vega 56 does 2100 H/s with SBR miner and Ryzen 7 does 510 H/s (3.85 GHz OC - all cores @1.23v)

Yes, I just benched it and it does > 10 kH/s...

However, it'll be a severe blow to my 2 vegas and 4 Ellesmere's. I don't know what to mine with them after this fork...

Yeah my 2   ryzen 9 3900x   do 1398 and 1475 on cryptonight

These pc's  will run a pair of evga's 1660 each  and while they are not making a fortune I have yet to use my heat this fall.  So they are pretty good as space heating units.

Less can be more. Optimal number of threads, for me, is 22. 24 give less hashrate. In the end of the day, I lowered to 21, it just looses 50 h/s, and it runs a bit cooler.

I'm using DDR4-3477, tought.

3950X maybe will launch on September 30, looking forward to see its hashrate.

AMD said it will launch in November, RandomX is also delayed - November 30.  Embarrassed

Anyone knows the new Ryzen 3900x which is said to be better than Intel 9900k and with a much better starting price. It seems AMD have taken the lead now and Intel is not responding at all until now.I think the hashrate should be very good feom this new Ryzen processor.
How much more into that 3rd Generation Ryzen 3000 series? specially that threadripper. Intel i9 is cheaper though but you cant get wrong with that 3rd gen Ryzen.

"Tom" has an interesting arcticle about how Ryzen 3xxx achieved it's single thread performance and why
many users claim it fails to achieve its adverstised boost frequency.

In short they loosened their binning specs and typically have only one core that can achieve the
the boost rate. It's up to the OS to make sure lightly threaded applications always use the golden core.

It is rumoured Intel will dramatically cut the prices of Cascade Lake X to better compete with Threadripper 3.
If so they'll likeky cut the prices of the existing masinstream line as well.

From a CPU mining perspective it still looks like Ryzen has the edge. Ryzen's failings, particularly slow AVX2
and lack of AVX512, mostly affect algos that are now dominated by ASICs. AMD likely has room to cut prices
to respond to anything Intel does.

I suppose it will be about same as 3600 vs 3700x

with that i mean we are still limited to dual channel memory and  with RandomX you can get around 4-6k per channel ddr4

Ryzen 5 2600 running at 3,4GHz

randomx-benchmark.exe --mine --jit --largePages --threads 6 --init 6 --nonces 300000

Performance: 3630 h/s

test bench:
Asus TUF B450
Memory 2 x 4Gb @ 2133 MHz

Sounds about fight!
If possible would be nice IF you could redo benchmark with just one stick of The ram.

Theoretically, that should give me about half the hashrate.
I tried it and it did not work.  It threw an error and told me to enable large pages.
Interestingly, I was able to cpu-mine Monero at the same hashrate as before - 460 H/s with 7 threads (XMR-Stak 2.10.6).

3900x you are looking at 12000+ h/s on random and 1500+ on CryptonightR

Its twice performance on Ryzen 5 3600.  All new ryzen are truly beasts.

Indeed, third ryzen generation are even more efficient than EPYC.
On RandomX, EPYC 7351 ~10100 H/s (https://randomx.monerobenchmarks.info/shareExportCPU.php?s=VFhwWlFrRkJQVDA9

Actual/real hashrate R5 2600 (no o/c) on the algorithm of RandomX (rx/Loki) is 3000 +/-10 h/s. Mine started right after the Loki fork and change the algorithm on RandomX.
I ask the others to confirm the hashrate.
