running a semperon with 4 280x here no problem.  cpu load hovering 16-20% usage.  windows 7 home premium, 8gb of ram.  cpu only uses 45 watts...

right as i said the cpu is dual core but 1 of them comes as locked some popular mobos can unlock them
its the best cpu for mining
It's the cheapest. It is NOT better.

Mine is doing ok with 3x HD 7950, but it gets hairy when trying to sync 2 wallets at a time

I had a sempron 140 on 4x 5970's, it had the second core unlocked

I just overclocked mine 145 to 4.0ghz since asus r.2.0 mobos dont support core unlock and it's running fine on 1 core without any heat problems

I went into the BIOS and enabled one thing, I think it was something about CPU Optimization.  Now it works better, it is currently mining and running at 50% to 55% cpu load with a pair of 280X's and a pair of 7950s cranked up to speed.  Huh.

Also, it was rejecting 10%-20% on each GPU before the BIOS change, now they are all between 0 and 1.5%.

Oh well, I will be buying another of these motherboards, so I'll put the quad core in that one and cpu mine Bitcoins.   Roll Eyes

EDIT - Strange thing - I was just setting up another computer, and I came back to this one and was checking some things, and in Control Panel I noticed that the Sempron 145 is now being reported as an Athlon II X2 4450e CPU.  And Task Manager shows 2 physical cores and 2 logical cores instead of the previous 1/1.  Nice upgrade for just changing one thing in the BIOS and not even realizing it!   Grin

As I said in previous posts:

Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit, 5 GB RAM, a few needed drivers and not much else running on the computer.  Fresh install of Windows.

...and fine with Windows 8.1. No difference in mining speed between my Linux setup and my Windows 8.1 setup. But a different story if you're running Windows 7 or below.

Are you running anything else on this rig? If you're using this for general use you'll definitely have performance problems.

just try to find the reason about high cpu usage i dont think its about mining process
also amd sempron 140 is a dual core cpu
u can unlock second core by at boot if your motherboard supports it

I have 4 systems with that CPU (adn that same MB).  Works fine for Scrypt, Scrypt-Jane and X11.  Only reason I still prefer the cheap intel 1155 celeron dual cores is the AMDs are so goddamn loud even when doing nothing since they have such shitty heatsinks...intel is almost dead silent, amd sounds like a whining jet plane.

I have a Sempron 145 in two of my rigs, both on 990FXA-UD5 motherboards.

Both rigs run 6 nVidia 750Ti's. One runs Linux, one runs Windows 8.1.

For mining, no problem at all, I've not noticed any lag whatsoever.

Don't rely on what's shown as the CPU load - modern OS's will tend to use as much CPU as possible to run housekeeping tasks which may give the impression that the CPU is maxed out.

Not saying you're wrong, but have you checked everything? You might have a dodgy riser in that PC or one of your cards is dragging down the clock speed of the board, or the BIOS settings may not be optimal.

How much memory do you have? Although mining doesn't use much memory, I've always worked with a minimum of 8Gb - anything less and I've noticed performance issues with any processor, Intel or AMD due to excessive paging.

I run a 145 in my rig (3x 270xs & SMOS), and it's been great. At the moment, my load average is 0.01, and the CPU is 91.4% idle.

I have 22 rigs same mobo and same CPU...never an issue (all with 5 GPU's).  Are you using Linux or windows??

I found an FX-4130 quad core on ebay for $60 last night and got it, it'll be here in a few days.

The computer has a fresh installation of 8.1 Pro 64 bit with the needed drivers and little else on it, it is a dedicated miner.  And several other computers I have set up with the same items but on Celeron G530 / G550 dual cores worked smoothly with no lag issues.

Task Manager shows 43 processes running, 20% memory usage (5 GB installed), and the cpu is always maxed out at 100%.  It is currently running 4 GPUs, a pair of 280X's and a pair of 7950s.

You probably have a mining virus or some drivers missing lol. I've ran 4 gpus off a 145 without these issues. Also setting high intensity on gpus can cause huge lag not related to the cpu.
