still a cool concept though! just seems rather difficult to implement thats all

The phone would only mine while connected to an adapter,
e.g. when charging overnight. And overheating would not be an issue
with a PoW dominated by memory latency rather than computation.

Basically buy two phones or tablet one for use and other to mine.

Interesting but this will mine ages for 1 coin.

Yes for dissent smart phone and tablet u can spend ass much ass for some basic mining equipment on pc.

So mining with this would bee waste of time and money.

Interesting topic.

Phones and tablets use RISC-based ARM processors. Normal desktop and laptop computers use processors based on the x86 architecture. These are the ones that Intel and AMD make. So in order to produce a coin that is primarily mined using smartphones, you would need to find a way to avoid getting swamped by the superior hash power of x86 CPUs. I'm not sure if such a thing is possible.

Can anyone with some knowledge about mining algorithms and CPU architecture shed some light here?

Also, maybe set CPU usage so phone wont melt Tongue

This would need to be implemented too, of course.

An altcoins that aims reduce the life of smartphones? How un-ecological.

And or it will be small coin with no value or too vulnerable to hash attacks.

get some today!

It is a good idea becasue I could see this catching on if kids do it then I think their parents would take an interest it in it.  I would like to see this become used on coins that have a real future(Bitcoin and others).

i bet phone manufacturers are gonna love this Smiley they will be getting so many paid replacements and repairs and such for peoples phones breaking from overheating lol

The concept is one that would no doubt be very popular and incredibly ucrative for the pioneer but it's just too impractical for long term use. Plus, everything that can be done on a phone can be done with a computer, but many, many times faster.

There is supposedly no longer any need to "secure" p2p distributed ledgers using Proof of Work.

I think it is more fair to say that broader definitions of "work" are being found applicable.  Even Proof of Stake is just a sort of "weakened constraint" PoW.

The method of CPU mining described at http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=cpu_mining seems to resist botnets quite well and should be able to run quite a few "workers" per phone, so should be quite suitable.

The main problem with this, as I see it, is still the reliance on a central server for the game environment.  Even with a server (or servers) operating over authenticated structures (so we could know that the OT ledger it offers is valid and that the server isn't cheating) we still rely on those servers' availability.  In order to be able to sustain itself, the currency network should be independent of the participation lifespan of any given set of participants.

Quote
However any game people like to play on their phones could also be used, players who do well at the game being issued more of the coins than players who fail at the game or do not do well at the game.

The human mine-able currencies HUC and MOTO are proving that this is only a partially obtainable goal.  In both cases (and really with any online game) bots are, of course, a significant influence on the game.

In the case of a network also secured by proof-of-play(/"proof-of-thought") it is also necessary to have these bots to secure the network, otherwise the transaction processing would be at the whim of the most skilled participants creating a sort of built in centralization problem.

what about my battery. Huh

Basically, leave it on the charger while you're mining overnight and be prepared for a hardware meltdown when the electronics inside just can't take the heat anymore. Unless you have a very efficient way to mine cryptocurrencies that won't cause overheating issues.

I Had an idea for an Altcoin that can be mined on a SmartPhone's CPU!!! I don't have the money or knowledge to make it my self, but I feel it can encourage teenagers to get involved with Altcoin mining. My hope with this post is that many people who have the skills to make this, will make many different versions of this idea.

An example of this idea is if McDonald's had it's own coin called the Mc-D coin and it was used for discount on food. The teenagers could mine the Mc-Ds as they sleep, then the next day use the Mc-Ds with money and get a discount. I'm thinking that if the coin rises in value, then the Mc-D can perches a full burger.

Please, put your thought about this post below or tweet me at https://twitter.com/AWeeSomeAltcoin.

how you will keep your coin mining only on smartphones?  without it - this is only new shitty alt

I started a topic about games that use "human mineable and proof of play Altcoins" that probably can be on a phone.  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/human-mineable-and-proof-of-play-altcoins-686443

I couldn't find info on a Mining app for Mintcoin, only one that pays you for doing tasks. I want to start the app & forget about it.
It's being developed now. Should be ready soon.
