Not all of us feel that the investment in mining is worth it, and I made a couple of posts there to see if I could get started in mining. This was for my education, and not to try to make a profit. They were deleted  so I put the board on ignore.

Talking of deletions, I see my thread asking for help with this project was deleted here as well. Obviously my efforts are being aimed in the wrong direction, so I'm going to play in the Motor Home and Photography forums. You guys need to decide where you want this forum to go, and then we can help to guide it there. I'm not interested in bounty programmes, scams, air drops, or even the relationship between merits and penis size.

Please can we have our Bitcoin forum back. It would help if we had mods instead of rockers as well.

At some point you have to focus on providing actual content.  Projects and things that people can discuss.  Whether that be new software or products or websites to interact with, whatever.  I think the problem right now isn't that new members aren't posting, it's that they get here and there's nothing to do but twiddle their thumbs or debate nonsense until they can try to get into a signature campaign.  The constantly evolving software and active development discussion going on in the Mining (Altcoins) section for example, is reminiscent of the glory days of bitcointalk.  I'd love to see every section as populated with real things.

I was hoping that I could upgrade the Beginners board, and try to get away from the  - How can I make one Bitcoin per day without working - type of thread. It seems that not many new members are interested in much more than the ways to convert free alts into fiat.

Well this project doesn't seem to have worked. I'm coming to the conclusion that it isn't worth targeting newbies in specific topic threads.

I considered staring an "Ask a legendary" thread, but I'm not sure that my knowledge id sufficient to support it.

OK - here we go with another thread, it's about the velocity of Bitcoin - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merits-again-discuss-the-velocity-of-bitcoin-5201929
Consider moving this thread or the previous one to "Bitcoin discussion" or any other related board. The thread might get more attention if you do so.
But, it might be needed to make a new self-moderated thread to delete the posts that are made by junior members and above ranks. Because there are many spammers in "Bitcoin discussion" that will probably make posts without any attention to being a newbie requirement.

I've had 3 replies, but nobody has really addressed the original question. The guys are making an effort though. I don't feel that I should award merits if they are off topic, but other sources may not agree with this. Please feel free to give a few merits if you feel a post is worth it. If we can get another couple of replies, then I'll pitch in with some comments.

Thanks to all of you who have held off until we reach the 5 post gateway. I do appreciate it.

but did you consider the fact that some account farmers may take davantage of this opportunity to earn merits and upgrade their newbie accounts!

if they answer the question then fair game, its to encourage newbies to post and earn merits for decent posts. Too many people worry about these shitty farms, id guess 99% of these multi accounting fucks are so retarded they don't even know how many bitcoins are in circulation and what the total ever will be.

If you are above Junior rank, then please don't post within the first 5 replies.
You should impose this as a local rule or create a self moderated topic.
It is a good initiative IMO, but did you consider the fact that some account farmers may take advantage of this opportunity to earn merits and upgrade their newbie accounts!

I won't bother to bump it - it's against my rules. Smiley

I start these projects, and if there isn't much interest or support, then I let them die. Fit to Talk English is another example. They do take up quite a bit of time, and I pay for the domain and hosting of course. Actually I might put some advertising on there, and turn it into a fake forum. That way if somebody does want to take part, then they are able to.

There have been others - the Crypto Coin Tree, and my blog. I'm tempted to try to turn them into a business, and use The Bitcoin Patron to solicit donations and affiliate link revenue.

Nope, I would like to see the first 5 replies being made by Juniors or Beginners. That is the main point of the experiment.
It's been three hours and I do not see any single response yet there. I think you will need to bump the topic regularly.

IMHO, I don't think so. Every member, regardless of rank deserves to post whenever they want.
May be you are missing the point here.

Do give it some time. Our colonial cousins are still abed. Hope it gets some traction.
Yep. I'm surprised that there's still zero replies after almost 3 hours, knowing that they can earn merits, which most newbies and Jrmembers definitely are attracted to.

At worst it could be a way for an account farmer to try and rank up some of their accounts. If they could game you.
Yep. I think it should be fine as long as Jet Cash's standards is high enough(by not just throwing out merits to replies just because). And that he makes sure that the replies aren't plagiarized.

EDIT: The thread finally got a reply.

The topic's too complex to expect a swift response in that section. It's also frankly a nebulous subject to which there is no known answer. How can you be sure what miners are doing with their rewards? Recommend you go for simpler, more fact based subjects for fewer merits.

I don't think that the answers from the users should necessarily be correct. As long as there's a constructive conversation between people regardless if people have opposite opinions, as long as they're arguing in a civil manner then I think it's fine. The topic is just for people to start conversing in the first place, not some sort of quiz.

As for the topic, probably something slight more noob friendly next time but I'd say this one's fine. I'm sure most people are already aware that miners earn bitcoin, and that fact should be enough to get people discussing even without technical knowledge.

As a suggestion to Jet Cash, probably something ever so slightly easier like "discuss the advantages and disadvantages of custodial wallets" for the next thread. Just my 2 satoshis.

I agree, but I hoped to provoke some speculation. Also I hoped that some may comment on the fact that some of the rewards are distributed to members of mining pools, and nobody seems to consider that when discussing the impact of miners' sales.

I agree to a certain extent, but I think it is important to encourage the more serious new arrivals, and I hope that I can encourage them to gain confidence here. It is the beginners board after all. The restriction is only for the first five replies anyway.
