That had nothing to do with solidcoin. There is an (apparently) endless stream of, lets face it, stupid peoples that try to buy coins of every new fork. We saw this happen on namecoin, ixcoin, i0coin and most recently on solidcoin. And of course a lot of miners jump instantly to each of those forked chains, because they know they can rip off those early buyers. Don't believe it? Just start some chain and you will see the same will happen.

Oh I agree that it was solely on hype. But it was still impressive hype.

I think the ixcoin was the most impressive one, because even a blind deaf-mute could hear and see the scam.

CoinHunter,

I'll be to the first to admit when I heard of SolidCoin with the 3m blocks, I was intrigued.  When the price hit .03 BTC within days and held around .01, that was impressive.  You certainly didn't have any problem flaunting and flexing at all the naysayers.

We still have to witness the failure of a well-designed Bitcoin clone, created by a real community of intelligent and responsible programmers. I'm sure it will happen too.
Interesting, I actually have similar thoughts to you regarding the coins, except for one big change, I think there will need to be a successful clone, and Bitcoin will still survive.   My thoughts go more into users of each coin itself, with a split and divide among the ideals behind the currencies to the point that some people will not want to use the same currency as another just based on what things those coins support.

I can see people not using Bitcoin based solely on things that it currently is able to aide people in as far as silk road, supporting terrorists, and the whole list of 'bad' things.

Where as the people who love the ease of use and the ability to use currency in different ways than thought of before, is going to draw those people to the next thing, 'the improved Bitcoin'

Both will survive though, as long as smoothie wants them to.

I disagree. The 'product' is doomed to fail. Not because Solidcoin is of poor quality, but because Bitcoin exists already. There is no room for two similar products, and network effects in favor of Bitcoin are too strong. At this point, any Bitcoin clone based on minor tweaks will be a speculative bubble, even if the minor tweaks make it look better.

Actually, it is a pity that Coinhunter is such an immature person, and that Solidcoin was so poorly designed, because these factors have accelerated the failure of this blockchain. But I do not think that they have caused it. The primary cause is that Bitcoin already exists.

CoinHunter,

But as of yesterday, your credibility has gone down drastically.  You may think "Doesn't matter, bitcointalk is full of trolls" and that may be true.  But most new people are going to be introduced to SolidCoin by what they read here.... and as of now it isn't pretty.

So why don't you do everyone a favor:  We can consolidate all the SC drama into one thread and finally get it over with, and you get to save face with those just being introduce to cryptocurrencies.  I'd say the more humble you are, the better.  Most complaints have been about you and not your 'product' (that's how you treat it), but your project is hemmoraging credibility on one of the (i imagine) primary ways people are introduced to your project. Come lay out your decisions with Solidcoin, why they're good for the project, and get it out in the open.

Umm.. you're suggesting to the guy who just minutes ago wrote on his forum "I will humilate them"  to be more humble?  Good luck with that!

Here's what he just wrote at http://solidcointalk.org/topic/139-license-change/page__st__40

Quote from: coinhunter
Firstly, I'm not THAT interested in the 0.01% of the world that care about "open source" and are most vocal about this small change. Most that are upset think, like you implied, that I have closed the source which is untrue.

If asking someone to use their code (and I've given 2 good reasons for it) is that big a step for some to make then all I can say is "tough titties". I have thus far allowed many people to use it and denied no one. So put things in perspective here. The license will likely change in the future once I'm done with the core changes I want in SolidCoin, allowing others to take over. For now, and given the horrendous treatment from Bitcoin developers I will humiliate them by making them ask for the changes and also to educate them on the dangers of not doing it properly.
