One other question. Setting the conf file to 2121 & daemon to 1 & address to 127.0.0.1, how is the best way to check it is working? The console doesn't seem to provide much help.
If you have sufficient hash rate for the current difficulty you will see in cg/bfminer the lines with the word "Accepted ...", otherwise the only way to check is the hot temperature of your miner.
Sorry I think I confused the issue. I was talking about the conf. in the wallet. I have several types of ASIC miners and have no issues with them. It is about the conf. file in the wallet & how to tell if the daemon is running. Many debug consoles have staking info. This debug console only has 'getmininginfo' & it doesn't show if the daemon is set true or 1, false or 0. I have set daemon in the config file to 1 & rpcallowip=127.0.0.1.

One of the simplest methods to open the port is to use a uTorrent: go to "Preferences" >> "Connection", opposite the "Port used for incoming connections" put 4242 and click on "Ok".

Thanks for that reply. Indeed the port was closed. I set it and port 2121 open on the computer where the wallets are. Interesting that once a static address is made, the process is simple on my router. Thank you for the advice.
