With only 42 coins, what's the point?

Exactly. Without hype and uses the limited amount of coins basically means that it is dead coin hashing right now.

There are seriously interesting alts out there, not sure why this coin is zombieing along!

Thanks for getting back to me. I went into %appdata% and deleted blkooo1.dat and and still didn't work on a resrart. I deleted the wallet (not the important stuff) redownloaded and deleted blk0001.dat AND blkindex.dat then started the wallet and there she is! all synced up this afternoon and my crypto is showing!!!

By the way, in the de-bug file it had set to stop at 230659, so I changed that to, unchecked proxy socks in settings, and added version 60001, blocks=0 in the confg. Maybe one or two would have been enough but the rest were causing problems on all the compueters so I did it all to one wallet and VOILA  Cheesy

Oh, btw again, all my nodes were fine but that might help someone else...good list you put up!

Terri

What's broken with the wallet?

It seems I spoke too soon.  My wallet seems to sync now.  There were complaints before.

Probably nothing except that zadai532 JUST REPORTED a problem.

zadai532: my previous experience with not fully syncing was that transactions occurred normally.
You did not say that your transaction did not show up...
...but you sound distressed and the wallet creates the key that allows you to use your balance, so...
I suspect you are not able to use your balance.  Correct?

So we just hardcode the nodes into a new wallet. No big deal.

1. backup your wallet and conf files.
1b. backup your wallet and conf files again.

2. try adding these nodes to your conf file;

addnode=162.243.222.146
addnode=198.199.116.77
addnode=162.243.205.200
addnode=162.243.49.230
addnode=162.243.222.146
addnode=198.199.116.77
addnode=162.243.205.200
addnode=162.243.49.230
addnode=72.187.27.243:24242
addnode=188.178.145.136:24242
addnode=85.238.96.186:24242
addnode=24.212.252.61:24242

if no luck, then you may have to

3. delete the blockchain files (NOT your wallet.dat or .conf)

About the 42 wallet....I downloaded and it synced. I made a withdraw from a pool to my wallet. THEN my wallet stopped syncing, at block 230659. I restarted it, nothing, stopped at 230659 again! downloaded another wallet on another pc and the exact same thing!!! My received coins won't show because of this syncing problem!

Is there an updated wallet? How do I transfer these coins from the wallet not synced? ANY help?Huh?

Three months ago, I proposed to delay the fork plan for the 42 until 8-8-14:
See Post #3984 for my proposal.
See Post #4050 for more information on my vision.

Today is 8-8-14.

It is time to get serious.

In the interim, I have not been checking this forum often, but Soopy had been working an a wallet fix until he abandoned the project. I think the wallet is priority one.

My current guess at top Priorites:
  • Fix Wallet. (Windows and Nix)
  • Figure out who else is interested in this project.
  • Get accustomed to using Github as the right way to publish.
  • Get into the habit of testing and code review in this publishing method.

I am still interested in the 42 because most money is basically
  • a medium of exchange, and
  • a store of value
while the 42 is much more than most forms of money.  It is
  • a medium of exchange
  • a store of value, and
  • a window into our fondest thoughts about money, the universe, mortality, satire, and other things.

In short, the 42 can make us like it even before looking at it as a store of value or a medium of exchange.

I am still not in a hurry; there is much to ponder.

I wonder if 42 coin will ever return to the dizzying heights it once was........

Not sure if trolling....

No need to wonder ;-)

Just trying to see if this coin is alive. I realize that the intro-price will not likely ever be reached again, but what the hell...

thx for info

I just compiled the wallet for my pool. I tested the wallet and mining. Transferred to Cryptsy. I am on the correct chain. If anyone else would like to mine, come on over to www.diggerpool.com. You CAN mine with your Cryptsy address. No registrations.

I have written to Cryptsy and Swisscex and they have replied with the wallet versions they are using.

Cryptsy replied that they are on version 7 and SwissCex gave me the link they built their wallet from ( https://github.com/fourtytwo42/42 ). So all we need to do now is figure out how the compile a QT. I have never successfully done so myself unfortunately.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/e7lt9jfbz0ctboi/42-Win-QT.zip

Make wallet backups, do what you need to do, I've verified that it syncs to the proper chain, but I haven't been able to do any other testing as I have no coins to test with. Use at your own risk. I can't guarantee any dev support, but I can't help being a nice guy. PM me if you need any help specifically with this wallet. Before anyone asks, I can't do a mac wallet. But I can help any new dev make the minor tweaks to the original source that I had to do in order to get it to compile properly.

If anyone wants to drop some 42 love on me, even if just so I have some to test with, please check my sig. Thanks:)

Thank you for the aid. I am still trying to learn how to compile miners and wallets. I am using windows and I believe the crux of the matter is that I need to be doing these types of things in Linux, yes? It is a common theme with much of the technology in this field, yes?

You can compile them in windows or linux. I actually compiled this one with my windows toolchain.

For people new to the process, this is the best thread to follow:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/building-headless-bitcoin-and-bitcoin-qt-on-windows-149479

It's intended for bitcoin, but the toolchains are similar enough that if you follow all the steps for that, you're mostly done for everything else. Most Altcoins use QT4 though. I like to use QT Creator, just because I like the IDE UI and if I'm compiling wallets I'm not familiar with then it makes it a lot easier for me to squash compile-time bugs. Also, get acquainted with manipulating .pro files, especially with regard to setting dependency locations.
