Don't want to sound like the resident madman but not forgetting there is (was?) a significant premine (0.42). If H/M agree that they've moved on, should what is remaining from that not be reassigned to a community fund and/or indeed partially nullified in the fork, if that's possible?

Most if not all has been pumped, dumped and redumped. Forking the blockchain does little to keep them cashing in again.

The coin should be relaunched with a premine that will replace the coins lost by the early adopters and investors.

BRING ON 42.1 COIN ! Grin

To clarify, personally my opinion is that if it is gone, it is gone. The market has already and will continue to decide the coin's value taking that into account. There's other rare coins to look at but I have stuck with 42 as it was a great original idea at the time. Nowadays with IPOs and high premines on new coins, the 1% taken here, regardless of how much or little of it is gone, seems small in comparison.

I guess that would be up to H/M. I'm agnostic about the right thing to do in this situation.

My position is to not be too concerned with the premine. H/M created the coin, they made the premine, all our decisions before this time have been based on that knowledge.

In my estimation, whoever holds the premine shouldn't affect the value of the coin. In fact, it would be worse for the value if the premine were already dumped because the developers would have less vested in the success of the coin. Converting to PoS would neutralize this latter concern, however.

I still have faith there'll be a resurgence of interest as time goes on.

A POS element would be great for the future when the original vision of it being an elitist coin takes hold, more stability plus interest on the holdings. Whether that could happen under the original devs or not, it's an interesting idea.

Good point. But I don't believe they have moved on or given up.  Hendo is moving out of state (he said it would take up to two weeks) and Maco is still working on the GW implementation. We have to wait and see.

The number of coins could be limited to 42 in a PoS model as well, so staying true to the name of the coin is not an issue.

Like the idea.

We could have a testnet by this weekend some time.

It may be time for a community fork. It's been done before.

If the developers have moved on, then the community should move to save the coin.

We could change 42 to PoS only and halt PoW production. Then hashes wouldn't matter.

We would also need to fork this thread.

Who's in?

If Maco and Hendo like the idea, I could do the implementation and it would be "official".

If they don't like it, we could fork anyway.

[edit]

I should point out that if PoW coin production stops, your coins will suddenly become much more valuable.

[addendum]

Also forking from pure PoW to pure PoS has never been done before. It would be another first for 42.

Like the idea. Would be great to know what Maco and Hendo think about it. Change is needed for this great coin! If it is for the better, you have my support! My only two concerns... is POW to POS doable? And how long would it take to be implemented?
