I've bought much more than I have mined. Most of the mined Octos have come from rented hash. I have managed to catch a few other coins with low diff before they took off, grabbed a good chunk of and made a good profit, when they did take off, which allowed me to buy more Octo.

I've done a lot of arbitrage with coins to generate profits to buy even more Octo. I have a nice stash, but I am always looking for more.

I have well over 100K but far less than 1M. I only have one wallet with over 100K in it, so I would not show up anywhere near the top 10 on a rich list. I probably would not get anywhere near the top ten, even if all my wallets were combined.

That being said... If someone wants to dump their Octo; I am always open to buying at the right price...  Grin Grin Grin

Yessir.
I wish i had way more octo than i do. I have stopped mining simply due to constant hardware issues. Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC are the worst mobo's for mining ever.

I have made quite a bit mining though. For now I'll continue to buy every 2 weeks when I get paid.

never gamble what you can't afford to lose.

there are no "sure bets" in this world, and especially in crypto. we all think that octo is great and will go2moon etc. but it's all a speculation game. it could go nowhere. everyone treats that as a reality. so i wouldn't gamble your life savings.

at the end of the day if you make a profit, it you're "up" then you're golden. think about how long it takes to make %5 on an investment in the real world. so you can't beat your self up for not going "all-in" on somethign which then turns a profit. because you could have just as easily lost it all.

my 2 cents...

With this community, the way the price has gone up with each reward block drop and the dev's being overly active I would hang on to them.  It's only a matter of time before this coin is added to Mintpal and usually that only helps the price of a coin.

You are either a believer or you aren't.  If you believed in the coin enough to accumulated 250K, I take it he isn't in for a quick 5%.  But that's just my two cents Smiley

what do you guys think, how many people have more than > 100000, > 500000, > 1000000 octos?
any place to view such statistics?

I only know of one person with > 1,000,000. I'm getting close but not there yet. Hash rates have been high and steady almost the entire 3 1/2 months since launch so 888 is really spread around. Probably no accurate way to view an actual "rich list" as coins typically are spread among multiple addresses even if held in the same wallet.

Ok, I'm currently at about 250k but as a student this is already far above my money risk threshold. Now I'm just not sure if I should bet my last shirt on this coin...
IF the market cap reaches a value of say 10m, which is a realistic number IMO, then I'll be sorry not to have bought some more octos, when I had the chance.

On the other hand, if I take the profit then, spot another octocoin-like promising coin in the future and reinvest, this would be much safer.

What do you guys think: all in and hope this will be a one shot, one hit? Or play it safe?

FWIW, I am also currently pretty much all in Octo at the moment.  I'd like to diversify but there are only a few other coins around that I think have any longevity.  I keep trying to spread my hash to other coins but then end up taking profits and buying more Octo.  It's very tempting to buy more with fiat but I've resolved to stick with whatever I can mine or make up in margin trading on a small percentage of my Octo stash now.

If I were in your position I would stick with what you have, keep an eye on things but largely forget about it for 2-3 months and then come back and see what the price is.  I don't think you'll regret holding but always bear in mind; profit not taken is not profit and if we all hold huge bags forever there will be no liquidity which will get us de-listed from exchanges.

Regarding your market cap prediction of $10M, that's about twice what I'd dared to hope for. However, there are plenty of coins that pass that (albeit most quickly fade) so it's definitely possible.  It would be fantastic if we can achieve and sustain growth to that level and beyond.  I'd love to know what the devs value projections are based on the upcoming releases and their long term strategy but I'm guessing they won't want to reveal that level of detail.  There was a hint 3 weeks ago when we were trading at around 400 satoshi's that the value was about 1/5th of projections for that stage.

I keep meaning to have a go at producing a rich list from a bitcoin-abe instance running against the octocoin blockchain but just never get the time.  But you're right, it's only representative when everybody keeps their coins all in one address. I have a nice amount split between a few addresses.

And yes, i found a bag.

Dev pay attention to this:

Problem with wallet was in regional settings in windows. My regional settings implies decimal separator as  ,(comma) thats why i couldn't send any amount of coins.
When i turned separator (in windows regional settings) to .(dot) transfer started to work. I think you should know about this bag.

Sincerely!

How recently did you download the wallet? It seems like you are still using the first "1.8 preview" wallet that was posted. Try the one in the OP or on the website. If this is an actual bug in the most recent version I haven't noticed. In any case, I believe they are working on a new update to the client anyway. Good stuff.

Hi to all octocoiners!

Dear dev!
Got problem - can't send my octos from one octo adress to another, wallet just don't send coins(synchronised, latest version).
I tried to send 10 000, 5 000, 1 000, and even 15 octocoins, transfer just don't work. ((
I see it for the first time.

I've learned to always send 1 coin as a test first anywhere... LOL

I would like to have a KnC Titan, but can't really justify spending that much cash (or BTC) when I'm preparing to move my office out the house to a leased space. Plus we are finishing up the plans to start building a new house this Summer, so I'm sure my wife can find a use for that 10 grand or so somewhere... But mining at 1.1 Mh/s isn't too much fun, right now either.  Grin

I may hit the Murray pool again before they switch over to Scrypt: 2048 or find something with low diff that I can mine and make a few satoshi to buy more Octo. I did see some relatively inexpensive 5 chip gridseeds on eBay a couple of days ago, so I could always expand my micro-farm to a mini-farm.  Wink

yeah, i'm still running my GPU mining rig 5MH on it (don't pay for electricity so fuck it), and now i'm barely clearing a couple hundred a day booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

we should dump the price back down to 500 sat so that all these new miners leave.

GO AWAY! ALL MY OCTO! ALL MINE! HISSSSSSSSSSSSS!
