Hi I'd like to ask a few questions.

I have synced ANON, set up the wallet and typed "start_mine 4".

I had a output from the console saying: "mining has started with 4 threads. good luck!" ect.
I am using a Intel core i5 2500k overclocked (cant remember what to) but its stable and also using a huge heat sink, all cores are at 100% and I have no thermal issues at the moment.

Questions:
Since I have started the mine I haven't had any output from the console and when I refresh the wallet I get "refresh done. blocks received:15
balance 0.000000000000. unlocked balance 0.000000000000. Is this correct?
How long before I see something appear in my wallet or will I?
Is my CPU okay for mining AEON?
Have I missed anything?
Is there anything else I should know ?

Thanks any help will be amazing.

You and I are in the same boat. go back to the previous page, I asked basically the same question and am curious about the answer to yours as well.

can i mine to aeon-pool.com and transfer it directly to bittrex-wallet?
I tried and everthing worked till first payout and since than (~1h) i wait to see the incoming transfer on bittrex

No. When you send coins to an exchange you need to provide a payment ID, and afaik there are no Aeon pools offering this service. (Some Monero pools allow you to do this, but usually have much higher payout threshold to mine to an exchange).

So, is there any major benefit to mining this outside of the daemon?

Solomining is good for the AEON decentralisation.

Solo mining also has less inherent overhead in terms of tx fees. Not only do the pools have to pay fees to pay out, but you will incur more fees when you spend those coins because it takes many tiny outputs to fund a transaction, making it larger. AEON currently has very low fees but those will need to increase to more sustainable level at some point.

Thats sorta what I thought, so, just to make sure I am clear, when I open my wallet and type start_mine in the wallet i am solo mining? I've been running on 4 threads based on some suggestions on halving my cache? Thoughts on that?

Solomining is good for the AEON decentralisation.

But as previously stated by someone, there is more regular payment if you mine in a pool with your computer (if you own a server with a loooot hash you might prefer solomine coz you still find blocks all the time and so you dont have to share the payment).

Also there might be hardware with not enough RAM/swap file to run a full node, so you could use just a mining software to mine directly to a pool without running a node.

There are many pools, choose what suits you the best.

On any pool getting started page youll find several miner software. Personally i prefer fireice_uk stak miner, because he is activly updating it/active in the community and also provides open communication on changes on the software.

I guess also adding to my second question, is it literally as simple as loading up the wallet and daemon and then start_mine.... it doesnt *SEE* like anything is happening.... butttttttt im a pl3b

I highly recommend pool mining with Aeon Stak CPU miner. You will get coins much more consistently then trying to solo mine. --- https://aeon-pool.com/#getting_started

The earlier 'errors' don't mean anything but 'Killed' is usually due to running out of memory (you can check Linux console messages to confirm this). Add memory and/or swap and try again.

Thank you, adding swap worked.

Hello, I've been trying to sync Aeon 0.9.12 in a Debian based vps but I keep running into a stream of errors at early height.

Killed

It is a brand new install in a good server provider, and I'm only running besides this a couple other daemons with no problems. Is this a known issue?

Hmm, I'm not sure if there's a way to lower the amount of RAM used. I checked and mine uses well over 6GB when it's synchronizing. I'll try to upload my blockchain.bin somewhere for download. I presume it will work on anyone's computer but Smooth might have to verify that.
The blockchain.bin files are operating system specific. So for example, one from Windows won't work on Linux (I tried).

They should be portable across different computers using the same CPU architecture and OS.

Here, you can try this --- put it in C/Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/Aeon

Thank you for the response. To be honest, I don't recall if that is what my screen looked like or not. I'm leaning towards "no." It did not look like that but I am fairly certain I saw synchronization complete.

I'm my roaming folder, inside there is a 'aeon' folder and I have 2 files. blockchain.bin and p2pstate.bin. The blockchain.bin file is a little over 4 gigs. For the purposes of our conversation, I gather the p2pstate.bin is not relevant.

So these are the steps I have taken since your post. I have shut down the miner. I have shut down the simplewallet.exe. I then reopened the 'aeond.exe' and it says it loading the blockchain. (An attempt to arrive at the same screen you provided) However, it slows my computer down something terrible and I haven't had the patience to wait for it to actually do anything. I'll provide a screenshot. But let's cut to the chase. Isn't there a blockchain I can download from somewhere and then simply insert it into the 'aeon' folder inside the roaming folder? I searched for one on Google and found a link but the link does not appear to work anymore. It would be so much simpler to just download a fully backed up blockchain.bin file that was ready to go. What are your thoughts on moving forward? I only have 4GB of Ram.

Once your aeond.exe has finished synching it will look like the image below and you may then start simplewallet.exe  Does yours show the same message?
