Aeternity wallet uses a fork of MEW.
At some point you should be able to inspect the source, view commit history.
You can also sign your message offline.
There should be explanation on blog / wiki / somewhere.
I don't think these guys have intention of stealing your private key...

I think they said it will start 05/15

The blog post announced the contribution campaign and was widely shared.
Information about the Ledger Nano "perk" was in it from the very start, including the "shipping costs" condition.
