What the Hell do those idiots at CE and UL know anyhow. This is Bitcoin, if we think we can power a whole damn house thru a paper clip then who are they too tell us not too!

I'm still not understanding why two PCIe cables are okay to pull 366w (183w per cable) to run the S3 in normal mode, but requires 4 PCIe cables just to carry an additional 12w per cable ( (390/2) -183) to over clock?

All you need to know is that 6pin PCI-e connector rating is 75watts. How much you choose to exceed that rating by is up to you. (and your insurance company)

Does this mean just running stock S1's we are already pulling 108w too much through each pci without any overclocking? That's assuming you don't use the screw in terminals, which most people don't. And on my psu's it looks like the 6+2 connectors are the exact same makeup and thickness as the 8 pin pci connector but supposedly 8 pin connectors are rated for 150w each right? Weird. Just going by the S1, 360w stock and around 420w+ at the wall over clocked for 200gh/s it sounds like we could atleast overclock the S3 to 500gh/s safely with 2 pci-e and anything 500-520+ you may need the additional 2 pci plugs. But who knows till we get some in hand.

Having 2 connectors per board helps to cover Bitmain for CE approval (if they really applied for this)

The rating for PCIe connectors is only to comply with the standard for GPU units

In practice, you can run what you want through a connector.

The limiting factors are the cable size and the resistive heat build up in the plug and socket.

Clean, descent spec. plugs from a reputable supplier will carry more current than cheap/dirty ones.

Having said all this, then YOU take your own chances of a meltdown, as only the end user (miner) actually see what is connected.

You also have to take into account the rating of the track on the PCB taking the power away from the plug. They make wonderful fuses...

The other two power the time machine so you can get a lower difficulty rate...

Just paid for 10 units. It looks like even at a steady 15% difficulty increase, these will never ROI for me at $0.13/Kwh.

Why did you buy them?

I bought them to replace my S1's that I sold. I had 16 S1's pulling about 5.8Kwh for 2.88TH/s. Now I will have 4.78TH/s for 3.66Kwh. I did it solely to get my power consumption and heat down.

I have some other miners as well, all together I will have about 7.1TH/s running at home, and I have 4TH/s leased at PBMining (Still not sure if that site is just a ponzi scheme or not, but that's another discussion all together.)

I'm just hoping for the best, and expecting the worse, maybe I'll get lucky and end up somewhere in the middle.

gotta let a coin be a coin
One thing to think about is we are all fairly confident we'll see these this month. How many other bitcoin asuc manufacturers would you believe when they give you a shipping date? I wouldn't trust any of them.

I ordered a Spondoolie SP10 and received it 8 days later. It was brand new and never mined with by the manufacturer. It was only tested to make sure it worked, and that was on my own account too. Bitcoin manufacturers are now mining with pre-order rigs, making the best profits the rig will ever make, then shipping them out. Yea, it's that greed bug.

Yea, sorry for the multiple posts.....trying to catch up on a thread in this forum is almost impossible there is so much talk about this and that.

OT is on the loose! LOL, always appreciate your comments, amigo.

AntMiner S3 NEWS

The Second Batch of AntMiner S3 runs out of stock. The Second Batch of AntMiner S3 is still in stock!!!
The Third Batch of S3 sales price is dropped to 0.725 BTC each with international shipping, which will open sales at 22:00 pm on July 4th (UTM + 8 ). The Third Batch is most likely to be shipped before July 20th, but no more than one or two days delay may happen.

This is still too expensive.  You'll have to do better than this to get an order from me.

M

Like they give a damn, these things are selling like hot cakes!

Because some people have no self control. They'd rather burn their house down, unplug their dryer, etc then not buy a new miner. They can't help themselves.

it took me three days to finally get caught up reading this entire thread. shipping of batch 2 in third week of july ?? maybe i will get my order in before shipping starts. i am a slow mover buying new hardware since i don't use mined coins to buy new hardware.. instead i must wait on coinbase to convert my new usd currency into bitcoins which takes me five days .

Not like its a lot of bitcoin here. I guess once a hoarder always a hoarder! Smiley

S3 is still too expensive, especially when delivery is not immediately.
I hope they will release coupons soon !

At the moment, what other device under 1BTC is a better price than AntMiner s3?  It may not be the perfect price for ROI but I can't seem to find anything better.  Please post other options in the 500GH range.

Really like the simplicity of AntMiners with only a network cable and 2 power plugs.  My 2 s1's run none stop without issues.  The new s3 looks sexy with the new cover.

BTCBTC
DoubleDD

Just because there are no rigs that will ROI doesn't mean you HAVE to buy what is available. You just don't buy anything. Right now all these bitcoin miner manufacturers have the weak minded wrapped around their fingers. Soon as these things went on sale they sold out, even though none of them will probably never break even.

Basically mining is not going to make any one a fortune these days [...]

It was never supposed to.  This whole concept of making big bucks is only an artifact of ASICS and is trending towards zero from the massive gains made by those with Avalon G1's and the lucky few who got Avalon B2's in Bitsyncom's "test" shipment.  In 2012 I had an 8GH/s GPU farm which pulled ~5.5kW.  This farm made me ~5BTC/day at its peak which was equivalent to $30 a day after power was paid for.  We're almost back there (thankfully).

Your right, huge profit was never the intention of Bitcoin mining - and rightfully so. But unfortunately many people don't quite get that.
Personally I love the concept of Bitcoin and it suits my anarchistic views on how the World should function, so by mining it I am assisting the Blockchain and gaining a little Bitcoin in the process Cheesy

Ive always seen bitcoin as ushering in a world wide financial authority rather than being a form of financial anarchy.

yeah i dont like that. Why if they have S3 already, dont deliver right now? why wait till 10-20 july? you pay now, yeah, but you have to wait till 10-20 and maybe you receive them last week of july... i dont like that waiting period Undecided

If you order something online, normal ordering processing is 24-48 hours if product is in stock. If it is not in stock, nothing ships. This is what is called a pre-order no matter how you look at it.

The price on these are in BTC, so min order quantity is 2, which comes to $1000 for less then 1TH. These will never break even, especially since you have to buy a $200 power supply too. These "should" be priced at $400 each, but that's just my opinion.

You should be able to get PSU's for much cheaper than that. I'm paying about £85($145) for 2 x 500W PSU's at a time. I think as long as people sell there kit on after at least a month and restock at the lower price then resell and so on, a steady amount of income is possible.
