I wouldn't be surprised if this was stated elsewhere in this forum, but I have to complain about Bittrex's "Bittrex New IP Address Verification" email.
Almost every time that I try to log in, I have to wait until I get this email and click on the link.
This does not increase security in any way that I can think of, and in fact makes the site much less secure. I have trained myself never to click on links on emails. When I log into a crypto exchange, I always type the URL manually or use a local bookmark, to avoid the possibility of fraudulent emails and phishing scams.
It would be easy for a hacker to send a user this "IP Address verification" email and trick the user into giving away all of his/her Bittrex login information to a fake website that looks the same as Bittrex.
With every other exchange, I can be sure I am going to the correct URL. With Bittrex, I have to trust a link that I click from an email.
This will train users to accept bad security practices. And to what end? To make it harder for people to log in from a different IP address? Even from my same location, my IP address changes daily; this email verification just makes it extremely inconvenient for legitimate users to use the exchange.
I 100% agree. I get super nervous everytime I have to click on the link to get to the site.
What I do now, I click the link. Then I open a new browser and go to bittrex again through my bookmarked link. And then I can log in. This way I avoid logging in directly after cliking on a link
