So I'm new to mining and very new to CAT, been mining for approx 22 hours now.

All of the above I don't actually know what it means so I just want to know, do I keep mining and is this coin going to hit cryptsy again or I sit dead once this block comes around, what ever that means?

Cheers
Welcome the community!

We're still on Cryptsy but transfers in/out are down until they finish upgrading to V9.2.0.  Transfers from your mining pool to your wallet should work fine - mine are (I got another payout last night).  Hold your coins until Cryptsy is done and we risk some of our own coins to test.  They're the last element on the network that hasn't upgraded.

Thanks,
Andy

Thank you for this fork.  We've had Catcoin on Prohashing for the last year, but we disabled any mining of Catcoin because we couldn't justify creating special code just to work around the 30-second minimum block time.  I'm glad that this feature is going away for the 10-minute blocks with better targeting.  I will enable Catcoin for mining on Prohashing after the fork and after Cryptsy unlocks its Catcoin wallet.

Prohashing is a pay per share scrypt pool that allows to mine the most profitable scrypt currencies and be paid in Catcoin or any of our other 120+ coins.  Check us out at https://prohashing.com.  We also have a block explorer for Catcoin and all our other coins.  We are still indexing the Catcoin chain, but once it is complete, its block explorer will be available at https://prohashing.com/explorer/Catcoin

By the way - while we're still camping in Freenode IRC #catcoin-dev as usual, we also have #catcoin and ##catcoin as well - each has plenty of community folks logged-in and each has a bot running with block times, next block, and difficulty.  #catcoin-testnet is also running with a testnet bot, but it's only running a V9.2.0 release wallet at the moment.

Next time you need a Freenode fix come by and say Hi!

Not much of an update tonight, folks.  We have excellent network hash rate and in spite of the occasional hit, we're able to manually add and pull mining power to keep block generation as consistent as possible.  We're still looking at the fork activating around the 20th at this point.

Cryptsy still has us in maintenance/update mode now.  We have a total of three tickets open - including one for coins that I sent to Cryptsy as a test but that cannot arrive there until they get their process fixed (and Taiga has one open as well).  Cryptsy are the last component in the network that is not yet updated.  All of our infrastructure (seed nodes, block explorer) are updated, all the active pools are on V9.2.0.  The overall network upgrade will be complete when they catch up.

I've prepared a wallet upgrade that'll be next up on testnet that'll include dependency updates, security improvements from around the overall community, and BIP66/DER/OpenSSL fixes.  We won't submit this (or however it evolves) until it's well tested and until we're well past this fork and have finally stabilized the block generation rate.

Thanks again to all of you that have upgraded your wallets!  More than 60% of nodes seen on the seed node peer list are running V9.2.0.  Most of the rest are running 9.1.1.  I have seen one user running 8.9.10.  Shocked

Once we're past this fork and we can all relax, I'm going to visit our local kitten rescue and see what supplies they need for the rest of the summer.  It's time for CAT to become what we all intended from the beginning - a tool for improving the lives of four-legged cats.

Bitcoin having multiple solutions developed in parallel by people with opposing views is not a bug of decentralization. It's a feature.

Remember that the next time you read something about running 'unauthorized' code...
Anyone that thinks any project should steer itself with an out of context tweet from someone that doesn't want to work as part of a community in a project that by definition MUST consist of a bunch of people working together for a common goal is missing some critical pieces of information.  Roll Eyes  Please note these clues from the July BTC forks:

https://bitcoin.org/en/alert/2015-07-04-spv-mining
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/July_2015_forks#Electrum
Some miners are generating invalid blocks - and the entire community is working to identify the bad chains (is calling them invalid!), and is working to get the entire system back together so it works as everyone wants it to work again.  Note the words like trusted servers and valid blockchains and invalid confirmations and invalid blocks.

When it comes to your complaints, Troy, this isn't about 'authorized' code or central control - this is about people intentionally building code that is not only not capable of operating on the CAT network, but by it's very existence harms the project and her community.  That's NOT what is happening in any other project, but it is what has been happening with CAT since you arrived on the scene just after launch.  You have been specializing in invalid code with invalid blocks and untrustworthy servers.

Keep in mind, Troy, that while the various developers in the BTC ecosystem are working to make COMPATIBLE apps and expand the usability of the BTC ecosystem, you have been working to DESTROY the CAT ecosystem.
- Can you name a single BTC process that ran code on seed nodes designed specifically to cause forks and make the network unusable?
- Can you name a single member of ANY other cryptocoin community that contacted an exchange and killed the ability of the entire community to trade the coin?  (That's right folks - Troy's the reason Cryptsy has been stuck on block 44260 and nobody's been able to buy or sell CAT on our only exchange.)
- Can you name any other coin project where a rogue member cloned the coin, changed the parameters to build a completely separate blockchain that is not compatible with the original project, took the projects graphics and name, and is standing alone against the entire development team and the community?

You do not have a single line of code in this project.  You are not a developer here.  You have proven you don't respect this project or her community.  You have betrayed this project and everyone that trusted you.  I didn't do that.  Neither did Blaksmith, Zerodrama, Maverick, Ambethia, or anyone else that put their own time or money into this project.  Even Eric didn't do that.

You, Troy, have become 'an army of one' that continues to work to destroy this project.  And for the life of me I cannot understand - because you apparently think enough about the project to beg, borrow, or steal CATs, and you have made it clear that profit is the number one planet in your solar system.  If you think this is a valuable project, and you want to make money, why in the HELL are you working so hard and so often to KILL IT?!

That's why you are kicked and banned from IRC and reddit, why you've been flagged as a rogue at Cryptsy, and that's why you're ignored here.

Remember that the next time you read something about running 'unauthorized' code. There's no such thing as an 'official' release of a cryptocoin, there is only the global consensus of miners, developers, and users, and that is the way the system is supposed to work. If you can put up with the mess, and the occasional (or several-year running) flamewar, it seems to work pretty well. If you want an authority to decide what's right, go open a citibank account or donate to the IMF so they can bail out greece again.

Until then, it looks like we are all waiting to see which code cryptsy decides to run. Personally I'm hoping they do a full audit, fix some bugs, and post it to something like github.com/cryptsy/catcoin

Cryptsy was down more than nine hours on 8th Jul, and about four on the evening of the 7th, dealing with their own databases.  There are still four coins in 'upgrade' status and CAT is one of them.

The fork block is 46331 and the current estimate for transitioning to the new code is 18th Jul.

Ok everyone - Cryptsy is updating CAT right now - don't send or receive to/from Cryptsy until we risk our coins and sound the all-clear.

https://www.cryptsy.com/pages/status

All signs indicate that our main network is functioning normally.  I'm continuing to mine and receive payments normally.  I plan to stop my personal transactions as we approach block 46331 and only use small transactions to test the network after the new code is enabled.  More news when we've got some to share...

We can't see your ticket, but I'm glad you filed one.

Yes - Cryptsy does fix things...but it's not very fast.  Our ticket for the update to V9.2.0 has been open for 12 days - it usually takes them 14 days to complete updates.

As long as your transaction is on the blockchain (and it is) your coins will be waiting at Cryptsy when they finish their work.

BTW...I sent some BTC to my account on Cryptsy 13 hours ago - it's still not there.  When it comes to response speed, here are coin networks and then there's Cryptsy. Wink

You will have to open a ticket with Cryptsy.  Your coins are on the block chain - the transaction is listed.  As it appears that Cryptsy is updating their code to V0.9.2.0 now, I expect your coins will be available there once they've completed their update and your coins have confirmed.

I will be quite happy to refund anyone who contributed to the insurance fund. My recollection is Eric is quite happy to have me continue to hold the funds, and definitely does NOT approve of giving them to you.
Eric requested the return of his contribution on January 6, 2015.  Please post the transaction ID for his refund.  Thanks in advance.

The most interesting thing to watch regarding the future of Catcoin right now is cryptsycatcoin, or https://www.cryptsy.com/currencies/view/CAT

If you are mining, and the difficulty number does not match what 'catcoind getinfo' reports, you are probably mining on a fork which is not recognized by the exchange. It's quite possible that the exchange could be behind, or catch up in a block re-organization, or that the exchange might update. But these are all very speculative positions, which carry a significant risk of loss of recently mined catcoin.

The code I have released is (to the best of my knowledge), compatible with the catcoind that cryptsy is running. If this is not the case, then that is a bug, and I would appreciate any bug reports (or patches) for the experimental forward-port of catcoin to a more modern bitcoin-core release at https://bitbucket.org/catcoin/catcoin

There code I'm currently running, FYI is https://bitbucket.org/tmagik/catoshi/commits/3f9f84773c8404ed75b46cf0ceb345a2c11bd9ce but you have to know a little bit about mercurial to build it. Otherwise any 0.9.1.1 release wallet *should* be compatible with catoshi, and with cryptsycatcoin.

I encourage other forks of the catcoin *code*, because more variations of code we have running on the network make for a more robust environment. Even if CatcoinOfficial has a forked blockchain, those nodes are still relaying transactions. The only danger are transactions that include a coin that was mined on one fork but does not exist on the other.

Get a life Troy.

There are exactly THREE nodes on the CAT network running your code - and you own all three of them.

Crypto already has consensus baked-in - it's called "a blockchain"  That silence you're hearing here, on your copycat cheat-code repositories, and on your Reddit thread is the result of a profound vote - you're 'an army of one' - the CAT community is honest.
