.conf files go to Roaming right?
Windows? Full instructions in the readme.txt - click by click.
Yes - AppData/Roaming/catcoin/catcoin.conf
Readme.txt doesn't say anything..
I'm assuming you're using windows. If so, you downloaded a wallet. That was either an exe or a zip. Either way, when you ran the exe or unzipped the archive you had a folder with five files inside. They are:
catcoin.conf
catcoind.exe
catcoin-qt.exe
hash.txt
ReadMe.txt
The ReadMe.txt has an overview of the files and instructions on how to back-up your wallet.dat, how to use the catcoin.conf, and how to uninstall the earlier versions of the wallet without losing your coins.
Welcome to Catcoin V0.8.9.0!
This package contains five files - this Readme.txt, catcoin-qt.exe (the wallet),
catcoind.exe (the headless node), a list of hash values, and a sample catcoin.conf.
Before updating your wallet, make a copy of your wallet.dat file. You will lose your
Catcoins if this file disappears! Your wallet.dat file is located in
AppData\Roaming\Catcoin (press start and search for %appdata% - press enter when you
see Roaming in the search result.
---
To install the wallet for the first time, simply copy it to your desktop and run it.
It will create a database and begin looking for the catcoin network but won't yet find
it. Close the wallet and navigate to the data folder by:
- press start
- in the search window, type %appdata%, press enter
- click into Roaming, then Catcoin.
Copy the catcoin.conf file into AppData\Roaming\Catcoin, then close the file explorers.
Restart the wallet and it will locate the network and begin downloading the block chain.
---
To upgrade from an earlier stand-alone wallet, copy your wallet.dat to a safe place as
a precaution. Then simply delete your old catcoin-qt.exe file and replace it with this
version and start the wallet. It will use your existing files. You do not need to delete any
files other than the old catcoin-qt.exe. Check your existing catcoin.conf and add any
node addresses you don't yet have.
To upgrade from an installed wallet, copy your wallet.dat to a safe place as a precaution.
Then uninstall your current wallet. Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features. You can
navigate to AppData\Roaming\Catcoin and delete everything EXCEPT your current wallet.dat
and catcoin.conf. When you start the catcoin-qt.exe for the first time, it will create
the new files you need in the AppData\Roaming\Catcoin folder automatically.
---
You can run the catcoind.exe on another computer for solo mining or to provide another
network node. On any one computer, run one or the other but not both catcoin applications.
If none of this makes sense, please start your wallet and press Help, then About Catcoin and make sure it says you have version 0.8.9.0. If you have an earlier wallet, please download one of the packages linked in the first post.
I hope this is useful,
Andy
