let's make a deal.

Unless the community acts now and bails this coin out instead of discussing what values it should be at, enjoy your trip to the bottom.
+1 agree, but it's tragicomedy how we're contemplating a bailout for this coin.  i guess catcoin is "too big to fail" now!

I feel like a rat on a sinking ship. But like the captain of the Titanic, if need be, I will go down with her.

I would rather hold my coins, rather than sell dirt cheap.

It clearly needs a hard fork. With the current hashrate (which will probably continue to decrease), it would be more than 2 years before the next difficulty adjustment. This will simply kill this coin.

What happens after a hard fork

After a hard fork cryptsy and possibly coinedup will automatically delist the coin due to their automated systems detecting the change. It will be chaos after some time. At that point it really depends on whether the community can come together and pull Catcoin back. If it becomes fractured with some people irrationally insisting on bitcoin specs despite it being very obvious that's not feasible in the current environment then the coin will collapse in on itself. However, if the community redoubles its efforts and gets behind the new difficulty retargets and block times it can get relisted eventually and the coin can really have a chance.

I want to emphasize to everyone: The advantage CAT has to DOGE is that it has less coins, thereby not inflating the market. The number of coins is good and should be retained. There is absolutely NO reason why a longer block time and a longer difficulty retargeting time is advantageous for any crypto.

1 minute block times with 5 coins per block
1440 blocks per retarget

Then CAT will really be a competitive coin and its appeal will really be marketable.

There is no other way to say it. I know people are hard core about leaving it but there is just sustainable way. No one is going to pay the electric to mine out the blocks to get us back to low difficulty. I have a 5mh\s machine that costs 7$ a day to run, it is way easier for me to mine Doge, sell them, and buy Cat. Literally, 168101.61954642 doge per day with my hash, which is 0.08741284 btc, which is is right at 148 cat per day. Yesterday I got 30Cats......1/5th if I'd just mine and pump and dump and buy back in. And the thing everyone is forgetting it THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, even in 2 months, difficulty will drop, big minners will come back, drive difficulty right back up, then bail again and the little guys like me are stuck minning for a good cause but loosing tons of cash simply to support a coin. I didn't get in on the first day so I don't have a ton of coins, to be exact I have about 800 from minning. In reality the only only way to fix it is to adjust the retarget time or block time, one of the two or both. I want this to be successful, and I bought a ton of cat with btc, but I don't know how long I can contemplate mining for a loss.

This needs to be said one more time.

This needs a hard fork
My pool, a vast majority of the current network hash at the moment, is only solving blocks every 4 hours... for a block that is supposed to be solved every 10 minutes.

We just got the last two blocks by the way:

[10:16:00] <<@catpoolbot>> BLOCK FOUND: 20255 | 546434 shares | Amount: 50.0183 | Found By ftfcain

[14:00:01] <<@catpoolbot>> BLOCK FOUND: 20256 | 232623 shares | Amount: 50.061 | Found By Dervie

4 hours inbetween blocks.

and the last block has been 30 minutes before this post, your difficulty change algorithm and block time are sure working.

How can you ignore this?

Hold on, I'm coming over!

Here's an interesting question:

How many catcoin supporters are running the CPU miner *right now* to help out the network?

Embarassingly I am not, as my post a few pages back shows, the difficulty jump wiped out my little 10k hash mining ability. However not doing it is exactly what everyone else is not... doing.

So... Who is running the miner right now in an inefficient manner? Answer that question and you have answered the future of catcoin.

haha yeah this sucks.

I traded out a months worth of ltc/ftc/xpm to get CAT.
But i'm with the above poster. I would rather lose it all then sell at this price. Bring it on Market...I can wait.... Cool

The coin is brand new, When the manipulators have finished dominating the price.. then we will see the future of this coin. I believe the few manipulators have a large portion of Cats and they have the power to either kill or make this coin skyrocket.. We will see in a few days, but no way am i selling at this price.. i rather loose all coins then to sell at this price.. Thats called holding the line right? Smiley

Let's not forget some people will have turned their miners to Earthcoin as it's a x2 day. They will return, because Cat has long term prospects. This is a hiccup, rather than a death knell. Demand will raise prices at a time when supply is low, the hash rate will then get back on track.

Altcoins have gotten big enough in the past month or so to attract investors from the general public.  These potential Catcoin holders will be less computer-savvy than most folks currently on this forum.  I'd wager that most won't know or care anything about hashrates or that they can't pick up a Latte at Starbucks with CAT 'cause the confirmation will take hours.  They're not going be doing that kind of thing for a few years even with BTC and they know that.  These investors will be only interested in returns.  CAT is set up to offer stable mid to long term growth.  It has a good community.  It has a good name.  And it has an official tie to DOGE in the form of a trading pair on Coinedup.com. This is another thing that builds legitimacy and value in the mind of a mainstream investor.

In summary:

DOGE and CAT should be considered as collaborators rather than competitors in the mainstream eye.  This relationship is similar to the LTC/BTC relationship where CAT is the high value 'reserve' currency (BTC) and DOGE is the 'everyday' currency (LTC).  The CAT and DOGE communities should both be working towards developing this relationship.  It will only serve to elevate both coins.

Collaboration, not competition.

Get this thing mainstream.  Trade your DOGE for CAT!  Your CAT for DOGE!  Screenshots of Coinedup.com  Send it to the Associated Press.  Someone will pick it up.  It's a great story!
