can windows 7 handle 5 or 6 750ti or not?
I have 7gpus in win7 x64 rig. setting up is a b*tch but it can be done. tip: for 5-7 gpu rig, dont skimp on cpu and memory. celeron and 4gb may not hack it. mine is g3220 and 16gb ram
Nice to see someone got it running. I have tried a lot of mainboards for the 7 cards combi but all of those failed. Of course I only use cheap CPU and 4GB Ram. Which mainboard do you use for your rig?
i use asrock z87 fatality killer. all x1 slots need to be shorted the presence pins, and all x16 slots need x16-x16 risers. I use powered risers for all slots. tip: i had to do discovery in bios b4 proceeding to windows.
if u still want to do a 7gpu setup, try this:
[1] in bios, turn off integrated gpu,
[2] turn off other peripherals (like sound, com ports) because these will occupy system resources, prevent ur 7gpus from being detected.
[3] do 1 by 1 gpu discovery in bios. meaning, detect 1, reboot. detect 2, reboot. detect 3.. and so on
[4a] windows itself was not a pain for me, maybe coz i already had a win7 installation set up and waiting in the SSD.
[4b] so u can do this way, if u want: install few gpus first, like 3 or 4, then do ur mining. when everything works fine, then that's the time u go for all 7 gpus
ok, now i will tell u why u should avoid skimping on cpu and memory: earlier versions of ccminer tend to hog cpu resources. this prevent gpus from achieving peak hashrate.
recall that ccminer 0.4 and 0.5 heavycoin mining used to need multiple instances of ccminer, only 2 gpus per instance? in my case, with g3220 cpu and 8gb ram, i can only do 3 instances of 2gpus each with tolerable hashrate performance. if i launch the 7th gpu, in its own window, or along with the 3rd window (3gpus in it instead of 2gpus), the whole rig slows down to 70% of hashrate. running 1 instance with all 7 gpus had , of course, worse performance.
note, that above is not complaint. mining programs are work in progress, so i'm just sharing my experience this way: if u want to use multi gpu rig, and don't mind spending a few extra dollars on cpu and memory, u won't be sorry. i know there is the temptation to be min-maxing our hardware specs, but in reality such is not necessary. it feels good to save a few dollars, that's all. like it feels good to trade ur coins are higher value than lower, even if the actualy sum of money is just a few cents difference.
Anyway, c&c are continuously doing great job with the optimizations. now my 7gpu 750ti rig does correct hashrate with just 1 ccminer instance: 14.7mhs for x11, 25.5mhs - 27mhs for jpc. they are the best thing to happen to nvidia, honestly. Thank you profusely, kind sirs! =)
