but it isn't any meaningful amount really.
Yes. it is.

And it's truth that this coin has big distribution issues. This 11mln we don't even know, if that's an exchange 11mln or one entity.
It looks abandoned for now.

Sometime it can be occurred not abandoned and can provoke big selling and crashing dtc price.

The new life is obvious to any observer.

It is obvious to any of ... few observers )))))

But other humanity don't know of it.

It seems more real that someone other community create new coin with similar ideology (censorship free and time proof storage).

Why other people need current dtc blockchain with all of its legacy holders? Why they would want to pay for probable selling of coins of current holders?

I don't want it would happen. But we need to make something for dtc idea, not for dtc holders, not for me.
If someone can nuke my stash - it would be very sad, but if it would be useful for dtc idea then it must be so.

You're referring to the genesis of a new network which forks Datacoin for economic reasons.

The same thing has happened a thousand times before where a developer says, "Let's make a new coin but do something different -- this time I'll be the one who gets rich."

It seems the dtc is already almost dead. If we donn't make something then someone else can make alternative storage coin like dtc and kill dtc finally.

The vitality of this network is in your perspective.

Compare DTC of May 2017 with DTC of May 2018.

The new life is obvious to any observer.

Compared to 1-2 entity mining it worldwide for the sole fun of it (as I understand? or it was a plan to mine a lot of it, and then later "revive it" to grow bags), yeah network has get bigger, but it isn't any meaningful amount really.

I think it is very bad. Such big coins holders and old node holders prevent the people trust dtc and prevent the progress and development of dtc.

May be we need restart dtc blockchain from new origin block.

Only if you're comfortable with the prospect of someone else pulling the same stunt, nuking your stash, in a couple of years' time.

May be we need restart dtc blockchain from new origin block.

Doing so would kill support for Datacoin from its most loyal promoters and set a precedent the development team is willing to erase rewards which sustained the network you have today.

The distribution is not a secret and has been well known to all.

Rather than try to rob someone of their DTC, it would be better if community members made an offer to hold some of them for a while at a fair price.
I undestand it. But.

That will be difficult without a meta-level description that reliably identifies and categorises the structure and content of what is, in essence, an arbitrary chunk of binary code.

Cheers

Graham

I think It is not a big problem. DTC offer storage of binary data for 100 kb per once. Such meta-level descriptionn is independent from network consensus. It is normal to have some different implementation of saving data in dtc. f.e we have some different image formats. gif, jpeg and other. We can have some different ways to store big size data in dtc. But we need to start.

I have some doubts.

For few previous years of almost dead dtc the huge amount of coins are concentrated in one hands.

F.e. https://chainz.cryptoid.info/dtc/address.dws?61563.htm with 11 mln coins.

I see the stable ammount 14 dtc clients of very old version. Not 0.8.6. Not 0.8.5.

It is 0.8.3 !!! version.

May be it is the same persons.

Yes distribution is very bad, because nobody really was mining it for these years, apart from a 1-4 people, and I know person, who have over 1mln DTC. Strange is that they dont want to help it otherwise, with listing on exchanges etc. That would help them.

They would sell even with current prices, if there would be enough liquidity.

This situation is better with Slimcoin, at least it seems so, that nobody has over 10% of supply in their hands.

Someone (who failed to enquire more deeply into the background of extro's enthusiasm back when I started playing about with a Datacoin ACME meta-data explorer) mistook me for "the new dev" and offered me 2% of the total emissions to that point for around $15k's worth of BTC, iirc. Maybe they're still interested in recovering some of their speculative investment.

Please, someone, make handy gui tool for saving and restoring file into dtc blockchain.

. . . It is within all of our power to make Datacoin what we wish . . .

Please, someone, make handy gui tool for saving and restoring file into dtc blockchain.

The second important tool for popularization of dtc is the firefox plugin for opening dtc URI (f.e. dtc://HASHLIKETHIShdjfklglirjtbewfgvuregj.jpg) directly in browser with embedding such files and images in html pages.

Hi Everyone,

Some great news!
My entire network went down due to a power outage (lightning storm) and not all my computers were able to shut down properly.
I'm proud to announce that NONE of the 0.15.99.08 Datacoin wallets i was actively running at that time required a re-index when they rebooted!
Great work Verionum and the Datacoin Team! The old client needed a re-index anytime it was looked at funny... lol.
We clearly have a very robust wallet on our hands!
These are exciting times I had hoped for many years ago when like only me and MarcusDE were mining Datacoin Cheesy
That chain back then lost it's way a few times -- but with this new dev crew, things are looking amazing!

Let's keep the momentum going <3

Kind Regards,
The DataSea

2. Backup wallet.dat. Start dtc with rescan wallet flags. f.e: "datacoin-qt -rescan -zapwallettxes=1"
P.S. And don't worry. Your coins is still yours.

thanks, it works.
i will try to make few smaller transactions.

I made a transaction and it seems to be stuck at "Status: 0/unconfirmed, in memory pool".

Status: 0/unconfirmed, in memory pool
Date: 17.5.2018. 19:40
To: DQrj37vGkkRt8h1GcxZKvEFanCCUHm6R4p
Debit: -10 400.00000000 DTC
Transaction fee: -5.85000000 DTC
Net amount: -10 405.85000000 DTC
Transaction ID: cc79ed995d89378d5c0a5634e41cbb6d9aa9a046fd6445ee80867706f689dd00
Transaction total size: 115980 bytes
Output index: 1

How to get coins back?

It seems the problem in Transaction total size: 115980 bytes.
The old wallets can't receive such big transactions into memory pool (but can receive it in blockchain).

It is a big problem of old wallets because of it prevents to accept transactions with 100kb data.

I have resolved it in 0.15.99.8 wallet, but problem will remain until most of network migrate to new wallet.

To avoid such problems with current network make transactions about 70 kb. (it is about 3-4 dtc of fee per once)

Try the followings.
1. Right click on the transaction in the list of transactions, then abandon it. Restart app.

If it doesn't help .
2. Backup wallet.dat. Start dtc with rescan wallet flags. f.e: "datacoin-qt -rescan -zapwallettxes=1"

P.S. And don't worry. Your coins is still yours.
