Dear Bitcoin Talk.

It sure has been a while, since we last posted, we were not even remotely ready to launch a layer-1 but here we are, as of Nov. 1st, 2022 - as you're reading this - it is officially live, and functioning well!
You can still participate in the ICO (regulated under MiCA, but doesn't require KYC at the moment due to being under the 5 million CHF limit).

There's also some confirmed top centralized exchange listings, all very exciting news.

The new website URL is: https://discreet.net and we managed (through trademarks) to get the handle @discreet on Twitter.

The testnet is incentivized and will pay out rewards to all participants, regardless of bug finds or not, but currently we're at block height 84282 for the testnet, and there has been no halts or critical errors yet, so we're more than thrilled about launching this layer-1, built from scratch. If you need a reminder about what the project is about:

  • 64 mixin, extendable up to 256 anonymity for every transaction
  • Mixed transactions (Monero to Bitcoin style addresses) to keep track of public charity donations, and ensure mover wide coverage with local crypto compliance laws around the world. These funds can of course be anonymized again by sending them back to a confidential address.
  • Aurem, is what we have dubbed our novel consensus mechanism, it is fast, based on AlephBFT, but uses reserve proofs with a committee of weighted participants to quickly verify blocks, with instant finality and speeds of up to (if needed) 86'000 TPS.
  • Discript: Our on-chain programming language which is based on the eUTXO model proposed by Cardano, however with a Circom (zk-snark) implementation to make sure inputs and signals are encrypted. This also has the added benefit of the chain not being bloated, since you only submit proof of the calculation to the blockchain, not the actual contract in itself.
  • More exciting stuff - join our Telegram.

I hope we get the chance to update this thread more, as this community has inspired so much of what has made Discreet a reality.

Hello everyone!

Quite a while since anything has been posted here!
We are very close to a testnet and would encourage everyone to check out the website.

https://discreet.net

It has had a redesign, and is way more functional now. Triptych and Bulletproofs are implemented, and the wallet-gui is a public repo now compileable for Windows, macOS and Linux.

The pre-sale is still in the early stages, so if you want to get some DIS (Discreet coin) for cheap, this is your chance.

Hey everyone!

We're really looking forward to next weeks development update as there has been some major milestones knocked out since the last one.
I'm just dropping by to let you know that Discreet is doing a Casascius-style physical coin, with tamper-proof holographic foil, that peel away to reveal a private key with the amount noted on the coin (5000, 10.000, 50.000, 100.000).

I just wanted to let you know that there is currently a free-to-enter giveaway going on for one of these physical coins.

If you're interested in joining click above.

Kindest regards,
Frederik

Development Update

A couple of days ago we released a development update "mini-podcast" (6 and a half minutes long) to update our followers on the state of Discreet.
Listen to it here.

are there any incentives for early adopters ? 1DIS =.11 cent early-stage price too excessive for the market cap of 270 market cap approximately? Is this better than XMR?

There are a number of advantages to Discreet that make it better as a real-world currency.

  • A truly decentralized DAG (all current DAGs suffer a centralization problem of a selected verification comittee, typically based on Proof of Stake), and therefore truly decentralized/fair mining.
  • A flat-fee rate for users, essentially you pay per byte in DIS, meaning if the market stays consistent, you can expect to pay consistent rates.
  • Anonymity (Triptych) by default, with added support for what we call unshielded transactions to comply with centralized exchange listings.
  • Transaction speeds that exceed VISA/Mastercard combined.

I hope your question was answered.

Anyone who purchases DIS during the IDO Pre-sale Phase One (or the first day of Phase Two) will be eligible for the airdrop
Unfortunately, the time to buy in order to be eligible for the airdrop ends on August 5 CET and 100,000 DIS has been distributed

EU just proposed legislation to ban privacy coins, however since Discreet has a transparency mode, nodes configured with this would be compliant with centralized exchanges and therefore Discreet is not in danger of not being listed, since the law only mentions service providers.

Some news:
  • The wallet is being implemented, tested and cross-compiled for Windows/Mac OS/Linux. (see our Telegram for a sneek peak of this.)
  • We've hired Henrik as Head of Research and he has already come up with some improvements to the protocol, leading to even faster speeds.
  • ]We're still on track for our roadmap.
  • There's only 8 days left of the Phase 1 of the IDO (https://www.getdiscreet.org/ido).
Hope you're as excited as we are!

UPDATE

Discript is being developed, the website is being improved, DiscreetCore is being finalized to begin network implementation of our testnet (still on track for scheduled launch).
23 days left in the first-phase pre-sale, for anyone interested in the project.

Aleph, the protocol our network is designed to run on, has a test network launch today, which might be worth checking out (please note that this is a seperate project, and does not inherently protect privacy). It's PoS based, which might lead to less decentralization, so it is not an accurate representation of how Discreet will perform, but it is cool technology nonetheless!

Check out the updated website!

Hope everyone has a nice summer.

Hey everyone,

A status update on the project:

Most of the core libraries in C are done for at the very least a testnet to be developed (additional C code needs to be written for DCN/TACNs).
Additionally, our new website went live today, it has the full team roster with names and biographies. Ther website is still considered in "beta" mode as there is some CSS adjusting needed for it to be perfect on every mobile device, but it should work flawlessly on a majority of them, but some tablets might experience problems for a day or two.

Check it out here: https://getdiscreet.org

I hope you're as excited about the project as we are.

Part of the developer wallet funds 10% of initial supply, ~3% of final supply, is dedicated towards bounties.  Smiley

This week we have reached out to several people we found were fit & proper to review the project and its merits, and we have a few videos & interviews coming out soon. Ideally, we'd like to start really amping up marketing once the new website is live, where the core team is listed by name and picture.

Then there's also the airdrop, where we're working on some verification software to make sure that new-comers (who hold no DIS token), are not bots.  For people already holding this, the amount distributed will scale linearly with your holdings.

Great, that makes sense Smiley

I like Airdrop but I prefer the  Bounty program, Bitcointalk is the largest crypto community,
BTT is a great forum to promote and see the benefits of the projects you develop,
You will find many potential promoters in this forum

On July 6th we'll have an interview with Girl Gone Crypto, our tech lead will get on her podcast and discuss the merits of our project. Make sure to tune in! Smiley
