I suppose ETC will hard forked only for bug in the "core ethereum protocol". Never hard forked for reverse or invalidate smart contracts. IMO

Did anyone try to communicate with the attacker? I think it is a wise thing to do if you want stability and security for the original chain. He has a degree of power on the platform and it would be ideal if he comes out and communicates to the ETC supporters what are his motives and his plans.
