You do not need to download geth separately. It is included with the mist wallet. If it is downloading properly you should see something like this:

You may have to sync your system clock with one of the NIST time servers. Click the clock > Change date and time settings > Internet Time tab > Change settings > Select server time.nist.gov > Update now

hi all is it ok to buy into the dao through bittrex as in is it safe how would it work would it be locked to bittrex wallet or should i just use my electron wallet

It took several hours to download the whole blockchain on my old mac. Just be patient, it will download the blockchain and launch up once it's done. Just leave it on over the night and you'll be good.

thanks for answering...... I did leave it on over night but it showed same message..... I thought it didn't work so I stopped it.... Sad

do I have to start from scratch again or does it pick up from last time I tried ?

Maybe it got disconnected? Try opening it again and it should continue from where it dropped off. It does take a long time to download the whole chain, there are a lot of blocks that need to sync up before the Mist client starts up.

of course you can. it is not recommended to sent mining rewards directly to exchange wallets though. although i personally have not had any issues with it in the past.

you will have a DAG file created for mining ethereum though which you may have confused with the blockchain. you will still need 2GB or more of video memory.
