what is this "brake pedal" you speak of?
@vopourminer, how many 290 cards are you able to get and what are they costing you? My 290 hashes at about 23.5 and my 289X's at 21.5. In my area the 280X costs about $200 and the 290 about $300 making the 280X pay itself of faster. Canadian $

dunno yet. newegg/amazon is my goto place

now looking at 380Xs

$235ish

I have two. I like 380x very much better then 280x.

thankyou all

very good info, this is just the fastest to quote, i have read with great interest the other posts below this one but this specifically  lists the 380X from one who has two. good good from VR standpoint. one (possibaly two) will be mine soon.

because ya know if one is good, two must be better lulz

Oh one other thing about the 290 and 290x cards...do not get ones with reference coolers unless you are planning to waterblock them anyway. They are very power hungry and hot and the reference cooler is just horribly inadequate for them. The blower fan gets extrememly loud at over 40%, but you would need to run it at very high speeds to keep it cool under load unless you undervolted them considerably.

I think the sweet spots for me would be to use 280X cards when buying used (still wondering about 6950/ 70 2Gb cards) and the 370 cards when buying new. This takes into account that I have all the other parts needed. I will have to find some more power supplies soon.

edit: Nice chart by the way. Thanks

look the answer is in this thread but honestly im pulling the trigger tomorrow.. so..

edumacate me please i dont care if eth tanks as i get a VR card out of it heh

Here is a relevant link for how games might run using DX12 in the future on various cards. Emphasis on might because this is the only game so far to be implemented properly in DX12.

http://anandtech.com/show/10067/ashes-of-the-singularity-revisited-beta/5

Here is a list of current and upcoming games that will implement DX12:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support

Here is a chart with some data on hash rates of various cards when mining Ethereum:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1s5SaThZ5eOSAiVMpmuIjz-_YjIlcxttAzKuWKAbczds/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0

These lists are by no means exhaustive and should all be taken with a grain of salt, but hopefully this helps you with your decision.

Basically the 980ti is much much better at gaming in DX11. The cards could be more closely matched when it comes to DX12 games. The AMD cards are better at mining. The DX12 and mining performance has to do with the superior asynchronous compute performance inherent in the architecture. The AMD cards are also less expensive.

The upcoming nVidia Pascal and AMD Polaris graphics cards could change this but if you're buying tomorrow I guess that doesn't factor in.

EDIT: Definitely take those hash rates with a grain of salt. My 290 gets roughly 29 MH/s and my 270 gets 16 MH/s.

Yes, let's hope so about the price correction!
I need to sell some to get some new 380X 4Gb cards.

@vopourminer, how many 290 cards are you able to get and what are they costing you? My 290 hashes at about 24.5 and my 280X's at 21.5. In my area the 280X costs about $200 and the 290 about $300 used making the 280X pay itself of faster. Canadian $

I haven't used any 390 cards but I think they are similar to the 290. Now the question for you is if you want new or used.

Here is another mining question. Does anyone have experience mining Ethereum with Radeon 6970 2Gb videocards? I am currently mostly mining with R9 280X and 7950 cards. I have plenty of the other hardware needed and only need video cards. If I can mine with 6950 and 6970 cards for the next few months before 2Gb is too small for the DAG then it should be profitable.

If anyone is mining with these cards, what is the hashrate?

Thanks.

in the usual mining .conf or .bat files of coins we we're able to run 2 threads on 4GB cards, the dual-x 270x 4GB for example. Each thread usually needed 1.4GB or something close, so you could run 2 on the 4GB gpus. Is there an etherminer command i havent found that runs 2 threads per card not just -t 2 to have both 270x's mining in one instance. i tried -t 4 and i dont see a difference. Looked everywhere which should be a sign, but gotta ask before i give up on it.

Go Big or Go Home.....
Dont waste your time on eth and put it back into bitcoin before you lose it all.Eth will be worth less than its IPO price eventually

Why do you say that?

Because he wants to buy back in at a much cheaper price. Probably missed the boat and is now butt-hurt..
