Is this the correct thread for technical questions?

I downloaded and installed the Windows 64bit client and started factomd.exe
It seems like the blockchain has been sitting at the same block for a while. I'm getting the message:
[INF] BMGR: At 56819: syncing to block height 67136 from peer 52.19.117.149: 8108

How long should I expect it to take for the blockchain to fully sync?
Will I get messages as it moves to other blocks so I can see the progress?
Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot and see if/ why the sync is stuck?

Depending on your connection, and the power of your machine, it can take a while to sync.  I some have reported a stall while downloading, so you can stop factomd and restart it.

You can use your browser to monitor the progress.  On that computer, go to http://localhost:8090

Hope this helps.

I find it can take awhile to start syncing so I just leave it on for an hour and come back and check. With me it takes (guessing) maybe 30 minutes to start syncing. You can check where you are at by opening a new terminal and entering    factom-cli get height   and once it starts syncing you will see the returned block you are at. You can also check your pc resources, I'm on linux so open my System Monitor and can see factomd and it will be using resources before it starts syncing. Not sure why or what the lag is but something is going on in the background. Perhaps some one else can provide a better explanation.

Yes you can ask technical questions here. Brian Deery and Paul Snow occasionally patrol this thread. You can also post your questions here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/factom/comments/5bwpao/factom_federation_m2_testnet_discussion_thread/

If you post on Reddit, you can page Brian and Paul by including "/u/paulsnow" and/or "/u/BrianDeery" in your post, and they'll be alerted to the message.

I don't see M2 making it under the Wire for 2016.Maybe early 2017. Late January would be my estimate.

Well, if there would be a few more big orders like that one of 32k Factom, everything s possible.

However, I still see Factom price growth as something based on fundamentals, not on speculation.

fundamentals will go boom when m2 is up and running smoothley

Guys, do you remember the last time when Factom really pumped? It was around 19/20/21 December 2015  Wink

I recall this run, an organic market with accurate supply/demand metrics before they added FCT to margin and it became a plaything for overzealous shorts.

Paul Snow has called the release of M2 the capstone for Factom for this year and many others to come. It is now Dec 11th. We are very close now boys and girls.

I would imagine a date to move Poloniex and other exchanges over will be annouced soon. In addition, Factom has many clients to transition over which would likely take a couple of weeks. If we're going to hit this year for the release expect this news and dates early next week folks.

This is just speculation of course.

Factom market isn't newbie friendly, you guys need to stick to BTC and ETH which is a little easier to play with. Chinese have Factom by the balls

this guy really doesn't know how to advise people at all.
Eth/BTC 's market aren't newbie friendly too because they also offers margin

if you don't know how to give advise , then stop pretending on being one

oh wait, how can a troll know to give good advise ?  Grin Grin Grin

I hope everyone knows you can buy and sell to yourself in crypto exchanges. That's how they manipulate prices on you guys. They sell to themselves to either pump or dump the price to force you guys to pay whatever they want, in a controlled way so the thing doesn't take off one way or another. Factom market isn't newbie friendly, you guys need to stick to BTC and ETH which is a little easier to play with. Chinese have Factom by the balls

Wow. No one here ever realised you could do that.

Clever.

So clever.

I might just buy and sell the price up to 0.1btc. I'm gonna be rich rich rich!!
