Dear FairCoin-friends,

I'd like to introduce a new Project which is in direct alignment with our goals; I'd like for us to be enlisted at CoinPayment.net

To gain visibility and to allow FairCoin to be tradable on unlimited platforms, we need a 3d party payment provider. Luckily there's CoinPayments.net who has the platform that can be used to do exactly this. Having this will support our cause for integrating with FairTrade online shops. We'll make a fairly strong case then :-)

We are an easy to integrate payment gateway for cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Litecoin with low fees. Whether using one of our buttons or a full shopping cart our API is designed to be simple and provides a polled interface or Instant Payment Notification (IPN). If you have ever programmed for PayPal™'s IPN system it is just as easy.

Voting can be done once per user account. They support a very fair goal, namely The Water Project.

suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation.

I would like to ask all FairCoin fans to promote us at CoinPayments.net. Note: "Only one vote per person, any additional votes will only change your existing vote."

Hi all,

I just want to give a short statement about the Heartbleed bug in regard to FairCoin to clear up any doubts or confusion people might have.

The Heartbleed bug is indeed on of the most critical bugs we've experienced since the beginning of the internet.

But for this bug to be exploited at all some precondition has to be met.

You need have all of the following configuration options in your FairCoin.conf file:
Code:
-rpcssl                                  Use OpenSSL (https) for JSON-RPC connections
-rpcsslcertificatechainfile=  Server certificate file (default: server.cert)
-rpcsslprivatekeyfile=         Server private key (default: server.pem)
-server                Accept command line and JSON-RPC commands
-rpcallowip=       Allow JSON-RPC connections from specified IP address

These options enable SSL encrypted remote access the RPC api of the walled (or daemon). I don't know a single person including myself who has configured their wallet like that.

People who use this set up usually know what they are doing and most likely use Linux anyway. The Linux version of the wallet is almost always the dynamically linked against the openssl library provided by the operation system. If your system is up-to-date, so your wallet is!

Provided somebody makes use of these exotic configuration, which might be true for the wide spread bitcoin but not for FairCoin at this time, even then it is very very hard to get your private keys. And if you have and encrypted wallet (which everybody should have) and haven't sent coins since the last restart it is impossible to get your private keys!

Long story short, the ordinary standard wallet set up is not vulnerable to the Heartbleed bug!

What I would like to add is that if you have the -server option enabled without the -rpcssl and are connecting remotely using the rpc api, you have other things to worry about then the HearthBleed bug Tongue

Can one skilled dev update the wallet with the latest openssl?
I will dedicate my time to it tonight - I'll try to team up with Thokon00.
I'm a skilled Java Dev, so that kinda clashes with how this wallet is set up.
The whole Qt buildprocess and library management is just nasty imho. Your OS needs to be part of the build environment. That's so 1900'ish.
Fortunately I'm using a Linux distro with a patched version of OpenSSL. All i had to do was to recompile the wallet from source with libcrypto and libssl as shared libraries.
The crazy DEV(s) here decided the logo competition was more important than bonifying the wallet.

Am I to understand that FAC still hasn't been updated to account for heartbleed?

Are you sure that there are just 50,018,932 coins out there? For me 6% of 50,000,000 means 3,000,000 FAC per year/365= 8,219 per day

from my understanding that is if 100% of FAC holder mint FAC by let the wallet run 24/7 for 1 year, and i don't believe all FAC holder is minting 24/7.
for me, i only got about 2K FAC from minting so far with a wallet opened 50% at all time from day 21 till now.

what?

as evident, the choice of logo not took time who are working in the wallet development.

just a question for understanding. If you hold your FAC in your Mintpal account, does the 6% annual interest goes to Mintpal and do they sell directly? In this case I can understand why it still seems like that somebody is still selling so low.

- The annual interest goes directly to MintPal - however coins need a cool down time before the minting process starts, MintPal makes use of a lot of wallet addresses so they'd have to implement a high level of coin control for coins to keep staking. I don't assume that they'll spend resources on that for PoS coins (yet). Coins like ZeitCoin and MintCoin are way more interesting for that.
- Interest is only 6% yearly.  Right now there's 50,018,932 FAC. So we're talking about 19.000 FAC minted so far. That's not enough to ruin the market.

To my opinion it's just that we (including the dev team) aren't making enough noise yet. So how do we do that?

And further more; if we make enough noise, what'll happen to the coin? Do we really want to get pumped & dumped?

Are you sure that there are just 50,018,932 coins out there? For me 6% of 50,000,000 means 3,000,000 FAC per year/365= 8,219 per day

Are you in contact with the old dev?

I highly doubt it, the old dev ran away good as expected.
