When I start the miner my computer slows down drastically. Is that normal?
It shouldn't make so much of a difference. What are the specs of your pc? Are you running on a VPS?

Yes your computer will slow down. Maybe some tuning will help you achieve better results. There are lots of people mining with sgminer - try asking for help in discord https://discord.gg/buU4NkN

I need some help setting up the AMD windows 10 miner. The sgminer is the only one available for AMD's and I'm having a hell of a time setting it up and linking up to a pool. some solid guidance would be greatly appreciated. I'm a newb. Cheers
We are rolling out a 2 part wallet update to improve the PoW hashrate / difficulty ratio.
The first update(v1.0.3.3) helps the transition from the current version to the next version.
The second version(v1.0.4.0) will disconnect all wallets prior to the transition wallet(v1.0.3.0-1.0.3.1-1.0.3.2) from the new v1.0.4.0 wallet.
In order to stay connected to the network you'll have to update to v1.0.3.3 before block 43.000 and update to version v1.0.4.0 between block 43.000 and 45.000.
Version 1.0.4.0 will be released around block 43.000.
