Thanks for the replies guys.

I do not want to get into ASIC because it's already low-power; I wouldn't take advantage of my free power. Building some basic PC cases is the way to go ı believe, with relatively modern CPUs.

I've seen a blade server with 40 cores, but it needs 8000W to run it, is that really worth it? That's costing around £1 and hour on energy.

that seems silly, i have 24 cores in my pc which is 750w, I'd say it isn't worth it.

Did you build your PC yourself, or is it one that you can buy off the shelf?

had mine built to spec at www.scan.co.uk, 6k pc though.

wow, you paid £6k for a PC? Do you have any other use for it apart from mining? That's quite a lot of CPU power.

Buy some used blade servers on ebay, this way you will get a lot of cores in small space.

Bump!

I noticed that a lot of people's votes are still 1024. Why wouldn't you want to increase your profit and vote lower? I don't get it...
It's the pools... They want big rewards to make more from fees.
People, open your wallets:
Help -> Debug Console
Type
setvote 1

Wouldn't making the coin more scarce profit the pools also? It benefits everyone...

BTW, is there a relatively cheap device dedicated for CPU mining? I do have free electricty so I would like to abuse this IF there is a certain device which draws lots of power and it's worth the investment.

Thank you!
Depends what you consider cheap.

Heavycoin is designed to be a CPU only coin, so what you need is a modern Intel processor (with all the recent add-ons) with the largest number of quick cores. Cheaper would be a recent AMD CPU, but the line between AMD vs. Intel is not clear at the lower end of the market, and varies from coin-to-coin. It probably also varies with the different miners available. My higher end Opteron (Barcelona) machine is faster and uses less energy than my dual Xeons (Nehalem), but only with Heavycoin and Inkcoin. YMMV.

If you want to mine SHA-256 coins, buy a cheap ASIC such as an antminer U1/2, but don't expect to mine a large number of coins.

PS: I'm talking about a device which is suitable for a "hobby" investment, please do not suggest me enterprise-level devices :-)

old/used/junk computers that people want to get rid of for free. Terribly inefficient though.

Hi, i'm new of the coin, my pool script had 512 has vote number, have i to set 1?

could you please give me the meaning of it in a short phrase?
thanks

Hi there. You do not have to do anything. It is up to you.

As you vote for lower numbers (ex. 1) you make the coin more rare since the reward per block will be just 1 coin and this is considered as a booster of its price. Personally I disagree, but that's the tendency here.

As you vote for higher numbers (ex. 1024) you make the coin much more easy to mine since the reward per block will be 1024 coins and this is considered as devaluing the coin.

My personal opinion is, as in most cases, something in the middle. So, I consider 512 a very good number for now. My reasoning is that indeed I do not want the coin devalued but also I want new people (new miners) to join it and receive coins for their efforts in order to increase the participation and the interest for the coin. The scheme as I see it at this moment is:

-v 1 --> Nobody really cares for the coin, just the ones that already have coins "play" with them, interest lost, coin devalued
-v 512 --> New people start joining the coin, they see some value, start discussing and exchanging it, strong interest
-v 1024 --> Coin hyped, many coins in circulation, everyone has some coins, the supply is bigger than the demand, price drops, coin devalued

Still, this is my line of thinking, it is extremely possible that I miss an aspect here.

Your mostly right, but most people here don't want a block size of 1 (me included) but still vote for 1 because majority block finder votes are for a 1024. The total votes are averaged and right now, the average is above 512. If 512 is what you want, then you need to vote a lot lower to make your vote count more.

+1 people should either set to 1 or 1024 depending on which side of the current vote they would like to see it go to, no matter what their ideal number is.

Not exactly, but perhaps I'm quibbling. The higher numbers do not affect the probability of finding a block, but they do affect the number of coins in a block. So you spend the same amount of time searching, but get a bigger prize at the end.

I think the total number of mineable coins stays the same, but higher block rewards mean we reach the end sooner.

EDIT: I'm wrong about the last bit, the total number of coins can vary. That suggests to me that the total number of blocks is constant. OP is silent about what the end point is.

Blocklancer - Freelance on the Blockchain
Quick question here if i may,

I've been running the wallet and solo mining for a while now and just noticed i have 2 pending transactions for 657 coins each,if i mouseover the "mined" symbols it says "generated but not accepted, mined" and are awaiting 6 confirmations each...only problem is they seem to have been stuck on unconfirmed for over an hour now,any suggestions?

Thanks

Smiley

Orphans, you found them but so did someone else as well and they were faster to send it into the network. You will not get them confirmed sorry.

Yeah so I've had probably 25 of these or the equivalent of 20000HVC - all unconfirmed. I do gets pieces from a pool and the CONFIRMED total stands at awhopping 22x 1 = 22HVC.
Has anyone successfully solo mined a full block? Absolute bullshit

Yes, got two blocks in the hours after the launch, had a few cpus pointed to a wallet on one of the machines.
