Motivation
We're big fans of Sia but we have a few experimental changes we want to make and so we have forked the Sia codebase. Primary among these changes is moving the tax on transactions between renters and hosts to a tax on miners, via a 10% dev fund. We hope to use this dev fund to smooth the entry of active participants on both sides of the renter-and-host marketplace. We also plan to use it to help new pool operators set up mining pools and for developers to experiment with the network. Beyond that, the dev fund will be used for funding of work related to the development of the project, such as software development, infrastructure, and awareness. If we can do so responsibly, we would like to exhaust 100% of the dev fund by the end of each year.
Airdrop
To encourage participants in the Sia network to try out the Hyperspace network, holders of Siacoin (SC) received Space Cash (SPACE) at a ratio of 10 SC to 1 SPACE. The snapshot of the Sia blockchain for this airdrop occurred at block 161358, corresponding to approximately the beginning of July 1st, Greenwich Mean Time. Contributors' Airdrop
Furthermore, 600 million Space Cash were created in the genesis block and distributed among 10 developers and 6 community contributors who expressed interest in actively participating in a contributors' airdrop. Each developer received 54 million Space Cash and each community contributor received 10 million Space Cash. The contributor coins are locked until block 157680 (~3 years from network launch).
Hyperspace the Business
Beyond helping to develop the marketplace and blockchain technology backing it, our company, Hyperspace, LLC, ultimately intends to develop a storage business involving fiat subscription payment tiers by building a service on top of the marketplace. We want to provide cheap, fast, and private storage. At the same time, we commit to always ensuring the network and marketplace is functional without going through our servers or using any of our services. We simply want to add a convenient on-ramp to the distributed network for people who don't mind using a centralized service.
The network founders mined 3 billion Space Cash for themselves prior to network launch. Such Space Cash will be locked and not sold for 3 years from public network launch. If the founders choose to participate in any transactions involve these 3 billion Space Cash after the 3-year period, they will do so transparently, gradually, and with advance public notification.
Please note: Space Cash is a utility token and the Hyperspace team will never promote or publicly discuss its price. It is designed as a value transfer mechanism between renters and hosts and this mechanism functions regardless of token price. Space Cash is also currently designed with a perpetual emission mechanism and so has unbounded future supply.
