Was this an actual attack (to override other blocks) or just someone with a big miner? I noticed the big jump in hashrate/difficulty and I assumed it was you getting your miner working.
I also noticed prior to that the network hashrate was very low again. Less than 1MH/s.

I don't think P2Pool will work as I believe it still uses the getwork protocol.
Just an update, I was probably incorrect here.
p2pool will use the old-school getwork protocol to communicate with the IFC client, but it should use stratum to communicate with the mining equipment. That's exactly what you want. I checked the source and p2pool does appear to support stratum.
