If anyone else is wondering, Cryptsy has officially announced that they'll steal all their users' PTS -> MMC conversion. This means if you held any PTS at Cryptsy (like I did  Undecided) bid your MMC goodbye!

Sounds to me that they just don't understand it yet.

I'm running the pool miner now with 12 cpus.  What is the recommended number of threads - 8, 16, 32 etc?

Yes, is 2^5

FaSan

What's wrong with the pool?  I can't connect any more.  Will ib be back up?

json_rpc_call failed

I've find some problems with the share reject. We will come back soon, sorry

Nevermind... I have probably used the older wallet. The new one (55, verified) syncs fast. The older one, even now, stalls, in a different way, but still stalls.

My memorycoin (v. 55) wallet is stuck at block 2936 possibly for hours. Any tips what is happening and what to do?

can somebody tell me what it is that makes this coin so special? I honestly don't see anything too great about this coin.

this coin is actually pretty special, and i'm one to knock on new coins and am a harsh critic of coins with "new features".

for starters, this coin has a very unique algorithm. we've seen this algorithm grow and become refined since the early days of Memorycoin, into its reincarnation as Protoshares, until finally this latest offering Memorycoin 2.0

I was a very harsh critic of Memorycoin, and even more vocal when it came to protoshares. But in Memorycoin 2.0, Free Trade has found a winning formula. It isn't perfect by no means, but if there is any dev around here who knows his stuff its Free Trade.

On top of this, Memorycoin has a grant/voting system, used to award grants for projects. In a nutshell, Memorycoin is an Asic resistant, Intelligent and community driven version of Devcoin. It's what devcoin set out to do initially, and it does it in a decentralized manner. I'm starting to become a big fan of this coin, not because i see a huge oppurtunity to profit, as i haven't mined any Memorycoins myself, but because i see the potential of this project and how out of all the coins released lately, i think this just might be the coin that has a chance to leave a lasting legacy both in the Alt Scene and in The real world. The potential uses of the voting system are limitless. Take for instance charities, community fund raisers, and development projects. all are real possibilities with the voting/grant system, and the big difference between this and non profit charitable organizations is that it is decentralized, IE no one person can influence the voting, and no one person is able to control what grants are awarded.

Synopsis: It's not perfect by any means, but has the potential to become something you read about in the Wall Street Journal or Popular Science.

That's my take on it anyway, take it with a grain of salt.

thanks for the above replies.  My instance just got terminated by price so I'm creating an Ubuntu instance this time - much simpler.

Incidentally it appeared the epel repo was showing in /etc/yum.repos.d/.

Thanks.

For ubuntu I had to do following:
sudo apt-get install libjansson-dev
wget http://www.mmc-pool.com/miners/mmc-miner-linux_x64.zip
unzip mmc-miner-linux_x64.zip
./mmc-miner --url http://pit.mmc-pool.com:8337 --user Weblogin.Worker --pass Worker password --threads numberofthreads

It's working fine and I think if you have to register on a website you have no botnet on the pool Cheesy
And you have long-polling  Grin

you wouldn't know how to install libjannsson-dev on an Amazon Linuz AMI instance?  I tried:

sudo yum install libjansson-dev

However, I get the error: "No package libjansson-dev available"

You need to install the EPEL repository :
http://www.rackspace.com/knowledge_center/article/installing-rhel-epel-repo-on-centos-5x-or-6x

and after install the jansson library  with :

yum install jansson jansson-devel

Unfortunately, centos is notorious for its lack of available packages. you would have to compile it yourself, sign it, choose to trust it and then install it.
fortunately, you should be able to install apt package manager and install it that way.
